Before I had the knowledge, passion or wherewithal to get involved with pinball, my wife and I came across a Midway Space Gun at an antique store in Spokane Washington in 1995. If I recall correctly, the store was asking $800, and I remember offering them $400, which they accepted.

The good news is that the only thing I had to do to get it operating was to replace the stylus spring. So it sat in our basement in our small house in Spokane and amused us until 1998 when I moved to the Bay Area for work. We didn't expect to stay in California forever, so my sister agreed to store Space Gun at her house.

So for just over five years, Space Gun rested in a garage in Spokane.

In 2003 we moved back to the Northwest and I was eventually able to bring Space Gun to our new home in the Seattle area. Fortunately (amazingly?!) it still worked!

But there was a new problem: During the time it was stored at my sisters home, it must have been exposed to water/moisture as it now had a VERY strong mildew odor. Which means it would stay in the garage!

Over the years I've cleaned it, sealed the backglass, added LEDs, and found some replacement rubber balls (I was down to two, and only one was original!) and slowly discovered more information on this machine and similar versions from a few internet sources (what would we do without the internet?) and, ultimately Pinside!

I've tried various 'de-odorizing' solutions. The most succesfull seems to be cheap vodka!

Unfortunately, my luck has run out, and about six months ago, it turns on, but doesn't start. Which means that I need to finally get serious about understanding schematics and how EM's work to get it operating again. I think it will be fun, but its pretty intimidating!

Here's a few more photos of some of the labels and relay banks (?) and cabinet art that I thought I would share. I hope to update this topic in the future with more useful information about my restoration/repair progress. Wish me luck!
