I'm sure it was probably a beater before you did anything to it...and if it's not, I'm just going to lie to myself and ignore anything you say to the contrary!

I'm a commercial photographer, so I ventured into doing my own replacement BG/translites for my EM's years ago. The pro lab I use does those cand can do a PF as described. I'll have to try it some time when I get to a retheme.
Thanks for confirming it is doable. I've use that material for cab decals.
