So I just posted a video on youtube talking about adding my first real pinball game to my home arcade, which has gotten a good response so far. I think the interest in the hobby is only growing stronger....

Welcome to the club . . . Let the addiction begin (I think you already have the bug given your comments about selling off all of your virtual pins to buy another real one).

I've been into pinball going on 6 years now (a noob by most standards), but our paths were sort of the same. I wanted to build my own virtual pin with all the feedback mechs, etc. Then I went to TPF, played the state-of-the-art v-pins and then I played the real thing. My mind was immediately changed, and I knew I wouldn't be satisfied with anything less than a real pin.

I do want to clarify that having a preference for real pins does not demean/diminish the place that v-pins have for many people. As you stated, they are a completely different experience. If you want sort of a hybrid approach, you need to check out the P3 machines by Multimorphic. They are a unique experience with all of the physical attributes of a real pin coupled with an interactive video screen as the playfield.

Oh, and as I'm sure you have already learned, in the pinball world it's quite easy for your eyes to be bigger than your wallet.

Oh yeah, no doubt. Vpin has its place. It's sort of like high end VR racing games - they're sweet, but it's not really driving.

Pinball's the same - it's fun to play Vpin, but it's not really pinball.

One good thing I can say about vpin is that it let's you get a taste of the type of pinball game you might be interested in, as well as trying out specific games you might be looking at in the real world.

For instance, from playing vpin, I discovered that I love shooting targets and ripping spinners. I really wouldn't have known that otherwise.

I too started out with a Vpin that I built, it has 10 sieman contactors for feedback, kl25z for nudging and runs 3 screens in 4K. I love it for the fact that it has hundreds of games you will never come to play in the real world. Its also a great way to learn the rules and layouts of games that you are able to play out in the wild. But you are correct that it is different but I find myself playing it the same as I do a real pin. Maybe thats due to the ability of having to physically nudge my machine and not just buttons.

Anyway Im sure that Gorgar will soon have a new arcade mate or 2 very soon, they are like Gremlins. Great intro video and Ill have to check out your other stuff on Youtube.
