So, I’m new to this whole “restoring old pinball machines” thing and I’m trying to sort out what I may want to get. I used to play some of the old superhero ones (Spiderman comes to mind) and some of the old video game ones (I know I played one with Sonic). How can I get started with it? Do you have any suggestions on how to research and check things out?

    To start with:

What do you mean by "restoring old pinball machines?

Are you talking about Electro Mechanical (Machines with reel scoring). Old Chicago

Early Solid State machines (Machines with a digital numeric display). Paragon, Meteor, Seawitch

    Alpha Numeric Machines. Whirlwind, Earthshaker

DMD Games. Addams Family, Medieval Madness

Modern games. Anything with a full color LCD screen

Do you want to play pinball, fix old machines, or both?

    No Sonic pin exists.

You probably don’t know this but there are places you can play games on location today. I strongly suggest you check out some places in your hometown or, plan to drive to a show. You are asking very general questions and it’s hard to figure out what you want. If you want to buy a game, I would ask everyone you know what they have in their basement. It would shock you that people have machines they don’t want any more just collecting dust.

Baywatch has a Sonic animation on it (Sega connection). Maybe other Segas, I'm not sure.
