The hack, reflected by the white wire with alligator clips, between the W and S relays is difficult to be precise about because it is not clear from the pic what terminal on the W relay the alligator clip is connected. However I suspect that it may be a rather crude and undesirable way to set free plays. When you get to the point of powering the machine I would test it without the hack to identify its true, if any, purpose.
