I was down in Mankato, MN and I walked by a place that had about 10 pinballs for sale! I walked into a store called Lucky's run by a man named Jason. I walked in real friendly and enthusiastic as you don't see this many pins in one place in the wild very often. He has a small retail shop where he tries to make money off his hobbies. As it turns out, Jason is the guy who is spamming the Mankato and Twin Cities CL with pinball WTB and For Sale ads. I'd describe it as a pawn shop where he specializes in his hobbies (video games, RC gas powered cars, and pinballs)

The guy was nice enough at first. Within 45 seconds of our conversation, I said 'oh, I think I saw one of your ads on Craigslist.' He immediately showed his true colors going off on how he doesn't understand why someone has it out for him and keeps flagging his ads. I just smiled and nodded because I'm pretty non-confrontational. I did not take the time to explain that it takes MULTIPLE flaggings to get your ads removed and that several people must consider his ads as spam ... but that's another story. He went on to say how if he could get the IP of who has been flagging his ads, he would make their life a living hell.

Anyway, after that, he was nice enough to flip on a few games and add some credits to a couple games for me to play. The games were mostly functional with fresh rubbers. Most had considerable playfield wear, which is par for the course for the late 70s and 80s games that he has. I know he claims that the games are all gone over by a pro and whatnot, but all but one of the games that I played had switches that were not registering. I played his Lethal Weapon 3 most, and it had several switches that were not registering.

While I played, he told me the history of a few games in the shop and how a couple of them are already sold, but not picked up yet. He then went into how they are paid for, but he hasn't shipped them yet because the BUYER won't respond to his emails ... hmmm. Again, I just smiled and nodded. he said if he didn't hear back from the buyer, he was just going to sell the games again and keep the money!! So, he's telling me (a potential customer) how he is going to keep someones money and not deliver them the game. Crazy man. I'm sure there's more to the story and I don't want to accuse the guy of anything, but that just blew my mind.

Then we got to talking about games he had that weren't in the shop. He said he's been driving all around picking up games and his friend works on them and he cleans them. He mentioned that he has a Skateball (a game on my want list). I perked up and asked him how much he was asking for it: he said $600 once he gets the boards back from his friend. He said there are 2 spots near the orbit that have a little bit of wear, otherwise it's perfect. Cool- I said I'll be in touch. Got a business card and went on my way.

A couple days later, I followed up with an email about a possible trade and asked for pictures of the Skateball. I got 5 or six cell phone pictures, mostly of the sides of the cabinet. I got exactly ONE picture of the playfield. I would say that there was wear on just about every insert and the game was in really rough condition. He said he would take a look and get back to me. After 2 weeks of follow-up, I have not rec'd any responses to my inquiries and he has increased his price on Skateball to $750.

I'm not starting this thread to argue about what business practices are fair and what people can and cannot do. I just wanted to provide a small service to the community and let them know my dealings with this retailer.

Is the guy that posts in all caps? His posts are so odd and his prices make little sense. Some like POTO have gone down a few hundred since his initial post while others like Gorgar seem to go up in price (which is said to have sold for $1050) after starting at $850.

That's the guy. I'm honestly a little scared that I posted this because he has my email address and phone number from our previous exchange. But, I figured I need to let pinside know how this guy rolls...

The price fluctuations aren't really THAT big of a deal to me. I get it; he's running a business. But all the OTHER stuff combined with that is what really freaks me out.

    His eBay handle is wild_1_j

Thanks for the info Tony. Not the type of guy I want to do business with.

As is his email handle ... I can't remember, nor do I feel it necessary to share, which email client he uses.

Thanks for the heads up that he is on ebay- I didn't even realize that.

    #8 11 years ago

Thanks as well. I saw his POTO and was a bit tempted. But I will hold onto my money until the spring now.

It was not plugged in when I was there. The playfield actually looked pretty decent, but probably not for the price.

Is he the same guy that posted that craigslist add filled with profanity towards the people flagging his adds? If I rember correctly the text was followed by a number of pics with old people giving the middle finger. Had to laugh.

That would not surprise me one bit.

If it was; not very professional for a guy who's trying to run a business....

I post wanted adds all the time and have no problems keeping them up and running. I think I've been flagged twice in the two years I started doing this. He's obviously doing something wrong with his adds.

No, you're just lucky that the craigslist flaggers aren't rampant in your area. My ads usually lasted an hour around here.

    #14 11 years ago

Oh boy, someone really doesn't like this guy. This beauty just popped onto my phone: mankato.craigslist.org link

I certainly don't SUPPORT people taking swings at him. But, I'm not going to do any flagging either. Haha.

My recent ad has been running around a week now. I'm off to the casino to cash in on my apparent luck. Hugs and kisses!

There are rules for posting "want" ads on CL. Pretty much, if you have a vague "wanted" ad like "ill buy what ever pinball machine you have" it is supposed to be categorized in the "Services Offered" section. If you list a couple pins that you are looking for, usually it sneaks by.

I see this guys ads all the time, and the prices do seem to go up and down, he had a gorar on there for like 789 and then it said sold 1049 or something like that. When he first started doing this a couple months ago, i seen he had a pinbot, so i texted him to see what he wanted for it, because he didn't include prices at first. He had 1500 on it. no pics. I belive he had a phantom of the opera too i was curious about.

I have had a WTB ad for a few weeks now with no problems and my area is know for people with vague ads saying they will buy any pin. There is even a guy that says he runs a home for dissadvantaged youth and that they fix pins and sell them as a hobby. I have heard from multiple sources that he is full of it and just a flipper. These ads always get flagged within minutes of going up.

My ad is looking for very certain pins and I say in the ad I am not a flipper that these are for my home use. I have never been flagged. I also have not had a lot of luck unless you count the guy offering a T2 for 2500$

you know the world is a lot smaller now that everyone is on one pinball site or another,
I can only see bad things going forward in this thread .........

That doesn't help around here. Trust me. It only takes a few $hitheads to get your ads pulled and those kinda guys are monitoring my local craigslist.

    #23 11 years ago

I posted a few adds for WTB a few months ago. They both got flagged within an hour. It was not worth it to keep trying. There always seems to be a WTB add in Twin Cities area and it only is up for a little bit and then it gets taken down. So the conclusion that I have come up with is either people will flag adds and they will only be up for a hour or so. On the other hand people can stop flagging and there will be only WTB adds on Craigslist. Either way Craigslist is only good for pins 1 in every 25000 times I check it out. That being said im going to end this post and head over to Craigslist.

    #24 11 years ago

MN needs more Als, that's for sure...

Great informative post btw. sounds like a sleezy guyfor sure.

This guy had a CL ad for a machine for $1200 and when I contacted him for pictures he told me $1300. I have been watching CL for pinball recently and have seen several machines from private parties being resold/flipped by him. From what I've seen it's doubtful he could refurbish these machines so fast...

And, I watched this same machine auction on Ebay. He then listed this machine as sold in his CL ad for over $300 more than was bid in the auction...?

    #28 11 years ago

Thanks for posting your experience Tony. I had called him before on a pin and he had mentioned he was waiting on a couple parts to come in. I am guessing that might be why his prices fluctuate, since he seems to list them before they are 'fully working' and then relists them at a higher price after he has done some repair work? He sounded like a nice guy over phone for what it's worth but I was hesitant to make the trip to 'kato because the ads are kind of excessive and off-putting. I had seen several listings from other sellers on craigslist that he has snatched up and relisted, as well as his simultaneous eBay listings.

    #29 11 years ago

Is it just me or is he going a little overboard with the Craiglist ads? It seems every time I check to see if there are any machines listed he has two ads up. I'm all for putting a wanted ad out for a specific title, but his spamming techniques are rather annoying.

    #30 11 years ago

I have also gotten sick of seeing this guy's ads on CL. He spams the $H&T out of them and then wonders why people flag them??? I'm not a "flagging" type person...but YES, I flag him every time it pops up. I never did at first, because every person has the right to put a wanted ad on CL, but he would put 3 or 4 of the same ad up at a time. What is the point of that? If he would only put 1 ad up and run it until it was renewable, I'm guessing nobody would flag it. I sure as hell wouldn't.

And like Pinraider said, he posts ads against the flaggers saying he's coming for you and uploads middle finger pics and says F*%K you. Really dude? You think anybody in their right mind is going to deal with a someone like that? This guy needs to figure out how to run a "business" in a friendly manner. I've honestly thought about calling the dude and explaining why people flag him for spamming.....BECAUSE HE IS SPAMMING!!!!!!

Dude just needs to chill out...post 1 simple ad...renew it when the option comes up...and leave it at that. I'd never flag that, and I doubt that others would as well.

This must be the same douche that another forum member told me about. Showed up for an estate sale where there was a Comet. The forum member was there first and patiently waiting to see the game like the guy running the sale asked him to do. This douche comes speeding in and gets out all huff and gruff and blows past him. When the seller takes them to show them the game, he blows past him again. The seller wanted $1,200 for the Comet...which wasn't working...and the douche is all pissed, kept saying, "but I drove all the way here from Mankato..." Ended up leaving in a big huff without the game.

    #34 11 years ago

I guess I should be thankful that this guy has a shop right in my backyard and I didn't know about it. I'll still have to go check it out but thanks for the heads-up Tony.

    #35 11 years ago

We got one here too, named Frank. Frank will work a great package deal with you over the phone, but when you drive to his house he changes it. I knew what he was doing within 2 minutes of meeting him. I mentioned him to my friends and the all knew exactly what his deal was and nobody likes him. He acts like he knows the pin business in and out, but when you talk to him you realize he can't change a light bulb if he has to.

It's a shame ... I used to have the opinion that ANYONE making a contribution to the pinball was a positive thing, no matter what the results were. It's people like this that have made me re-think my opinion ...

He is back up on CL. This time the LW3 has jumped up $200.

lol, he's probably posted at least six ads on CL today and all have been flagged within five minutes.

Absolutely no sympathy for this guy

^check CL six times throughout the day, everytime he had a new add up and it was already flagged dead

And yes, I have that much free time during the day - I spend most of my day flying across the country, you'd be amazed how fast flights go dicking around on the internet.

It is starting to get a bit wild in Mankato.

    #44 11 years ago

This is part of the reason why people re-selling pins for income doesn't work for 90% of business owners. They clean it up to make it look good, fix a couple issues at best, and make claims there's nothing wrong with it (even though there is) and take shitty photos.

Hopefully if more collectors refurb pins and sell them at reasonable prices (do it for the love of the game, not for profit), it'll keep prices down and keep resellers out of business.
