Quoted from rommy:I am totally speculating - but if Pinside were really Private and hosted in a country that does not have an agreement with the IRS there might be a more open and honest discussion about the tax and business side of pinball. As it is now if you post here about tax related matters, including pinball purchases and sales, do not be surprised if the IRS or more likely a State Tax Agency includes your posts in any audit. Once again, total speculation on my part.
You've got two kinds of people: tax parasites and tax providers. The former wish to pretend that the IRS vacuum cleaner never misses a dust bunny. The latter tends to know the difference between a business and private cash sales.
Links please. It's hard to start a research project based you your comments.
Quoted from silver_spinner:tell that to the guy selling multicades in detroit and the irs showed up at his doorstep (yes, right at his house). also, a seller who posts fs stuff on CL often got called out by the irs and city zoning and actually told him he wasn't allowed to post ads or sell from his house any game anymore bcuz he isn't zoned commercial etc etc..
things do happen. just research it.
