Yesterday, November 9, 2021 my dog Jimi passed away. Even though we knew the end was near, it's a crushing feeling. I can't stop the pain. It hurts so bad and I miss him so much. I can't stop crying every time I think about him. When I opened the door and he was wasn't there to greet me I collapsed to the floor and sobbed uncontrollably. The fact that I won't be able to talk to him, touch him, hug him anymore is killing me. He was my best friend. He was 14.5 years old and with my wife and me for 13 years and nine days. We rescued him November 1, 2008 from the North Battleford SPCA.

He was the absolute best dog. A social butterfly. He had lots of friends and loved everyone. When we would visit my mother in law and her 3 cats they were all best friends and would curl up in his fur for a nap. Whenever one of his friends would be out for a walk he would talk them over for a visit. He had a great bark. He was always eager for a car ride or walk. He went everywhere with us and always by our side.

My wife and I spent the night going thru pictures and trying our best to celebrate him and all the great times we had together. I hope it will get better eventually but it sucks so bad right now. Our house feels so empty without him. I'd love for him to still be here but his body finally failed him and would have been selfish to keep him alive in pain anymore. I know he's in a better place now and he'll never be forgotten.

Rest peacefully my beautiful friend Jimi. Love you forever bud

So sorry for your loss. Its never easy. You are so lucky to have had that 14.5 years.... Cherish those great memories. Try to keep your head up and play some pinball...its a great distraction.

Dogs are the best and sometimes I feel like we don't deserve them. 13 wonderful years is a heck of a ride. My pup is just over 6 years old and it makes me sad everytime I see more grey on his face because I know that day will come and it will tear me up. RIP Jimi

    Sorry for your loss.

What a beautiful friend you have had.
You can see the empathy in the eyes.

I wish I had words of great comfort from experience, but I'm still hurting after 6 months losing mine.

Hold all the memories dear. Dogs are family, and you were blessed.

    #9 2 years ago

Ah man, I know the feeling. Hope you are well. It will be tuff for a couple weeks and you’ll still hear him around the house. There will be something missing though around the house, you’re gonna feel that. It’s funny how you don’t discover this until they’re no longer around. It’s like this presence is just missing. Sometimes a little pinball will help. But don’t get yourself down, it’s part of life. They’re not built to last, and neither are we. So just remember how lucky you were Jimi found you. Be well

I am sorry for your loss. Remember all the great years you gave him and the wonderful times you had together.

I am sorry to hear that! I can appreciate the empty house feeling. Looks like a really chill bud to spend time with.

I know this pain all too well, we have lost many loved pets that actually become family over the years. It was once told to me that they don't live as long as us for the large hearts full of love that they give us through the years. Take comfort in knowing you had given him the best home possible with the most love in his lifetime like he has given all of you.

When the time is right, open the door to a another new friend and give him the same, they'll never replace Jimi as they are all special in their own way but the unconditional love and companionship will be there the same and I'm sure Jimi will be happy knowing that you have done so to another furry buddy.

Thanks for the kind words. I'll post more pics of him as I go thru old galleries. I know the pain will pass eventually. It's just so hard not to see him everywhere. We don't have kids and the longest we ever left him was 2 nights. He had us wrapped up in his paws and he knew it. He was very spoiled and couldn't say no him. He got whatever he wanted.

I’m sorry for your terrible loss.

Sorry for your loss. We had a Westie for 14.5 years. Miss him every day

Just remember dog spelled backwards is God and what a gift God he gave us.

    Look at that beautiful smile

"Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together."

Terrible loss and my heart goes out to you. My dog is 13 years old and my best buddy and companion I know it's going to be very difficult when his time comes but you must go through the mourning process however long it takes and you will slowly heal.

    #21 2 years ago

I’m really sorry for your loss.

There are no words that can summarize the bonds of love and friendship with a dog. The only feeling that compares/outshines the pain of not having them, is the total joy and love they give you and leave you with.

Me and my fur buddies will raise a glass to Jimmy tonight. Sending love and prayers your way.

So sorry, hang in there, do a cool memorial or grave site for him, always helps me when I lose a friend.
And after a bit..... puppies! Get two, that'll keep you busy.

Sorry, it sucks so much to lose a dog.

These are the oldest pics we could find. His first jacket and he loved curling up on his mom on the couch. He had the coolest looking eyes. The color faded a bit over the years.

I am so sorry to hear this heartbreaking news of the loss of your dear friend and family member. I know how this can tear a hole in your heart, only time can help ease that pain. Until then let the knowing that he loved you unconditionally and you loved him the same comfort you. What greater gift could you have given each other and that.

    #33 2 years ago

I’ve lost friends and family, and I’ve lost dogs. Losing a dog is devastating in a way that’s different than losing a human being.

Dogs don’t understand why they’re in pain, and they don’t understand that sometimes you can’t help them get better. The only thing you can do is give them the best possible life and be there for them in their final moments.

I’m sorry for your loss. It’s a pain that I think only someone with a cherished pet can understand. Best wishes from Ozzy.

I am so sorry. After the 14 good years, he will forever live in your memories.

    #35 2 years ago

Your Jimi knew for many years, the love, affection and good home you gave to him.
He returned that love and affection a hundred-fold, I have no doubt.

What he gave you - 14+ years - is a time filled I am sure with many happy memories, great recollections and joyful moments, and photos that you will keep with you forever.

It's a terrible loss, and in a way tragic that we humans get as attached to our pets, as we do.

Take the time to grieve, gather your feelings, enjoy some of those great memories. You will then know when the time is right to visit that SPCA again - because there will be another Jimi waiting there for you - who needs your love and affection.

Think of it as "paying it forward" to another animal who desperately needs a good and caring home - and do it as a remembrance of your beloved Jimi.

You'll sleep better at night, believing that "He" would really think that's great.

Thanks Kevin. Been a real tough morning. Nightsearcher was out last week for a visit and Jimi got a nice pet and rub. He met a handful of pinsiders and happily greated all of you

So sorry to hear this, but I'm glad to hear that you had 14+ good years together. Cherish the memories. My wife & I put together a scrap book with our very favorite pictures of our best-est buddies. Ended up being quite cathartic and allows us the chance to visit the good memories when we choose. The very best to you & your family in this difficult time.

Sorry for your loss. I know exactly how you feel, I lost my best buddy back in March all of a sudden with a burst blood clot. He was in such pain that I couldn't let him suffer any more. Just take it day by day and it will slowly get better, but never forget.

I am so sorry man. Your buddy looks awesome and super happy. Looks like he had a great time with you and yours... and a long life. Sadlyl, many of us know your pain. It took our family 7 years after the loss of our beloved Bernese Mountain dog to even consider another dog. He left a hole in our lives and I still think about him every day and wish we could go on a walk in the snow together. 2 years ago we let an Australian Shepherd sneak his way into our hearts. I think you and I have similar taste in dogs - that guy looks like a great person to take a nap with on Sunday. Wishing you well.
