Sorry for your loss, I know the feeling. I lost my best friend in February this year to lymphoma. Still miss her a bunch but this guy is trying to take her place.

That's really sad and I'm sorry for your loss. I lost my beautiful dog a year ago and it was tough for sure. In time, you will find that when you think of him, instead of the sadness and grief, you will just feel warmth and happiness from all of the great memories.

Dogs, and cats for that matter enrich our lives. We are their whole world and they love us so much. My condolences for your loss and thank you for giving him the life that he could only dream of.

Dang dude, I’m so sorry for your loss. My guy is getting up there and I can tell just by his eyes that he’s in his twilight years. My wife and kids are going to be absolutely destroyed (their first dog) and I dread the days that you’re experiencing. It’s amazing how entwined these buggers get into the family. RIP Jimi.

Have you considered/tried cbd oil? We started Jimi on it April 2020 and did wonders. He wouldn't have made it much longer we believe. Cbd is great for anxiety and a great anti inflammatory.

This! Helping our girl immensely as well.

This is the brand I researched and ended up deciding on...

I feel your pain and we lost our dog Shadow last week on Nov 2nd. He would have been 17 years old in January so we have a lot to be thankful for however he was very healthy for his age and the vet expected him to live a few more years. So his passing was very unexpected and I would have gladly traded years off my life to keep him around longer. Every night when I go to bed I hope to see him in my dreams just so I can share one more moment with him.

At one point we had 3 dogs and now the house feels so empty without them. He was the first one we got and the last to pass. There are no words that can be said to make things better and while the memories will last a life time it just never feels the same. Our dogs meant the world to us and our lives revolved around them so even as time passes the void will never be filled.

Lost two of my best friends this past year too. Princess and Sheeba.
The pain is deep and long lasting.

They are never really gone as long as we remember them.

I've always thought if there is a god, the greatest gift given
mankind was the companionship from pets.

I had one dog in my life full time I won’t do it again I don’t think I could go through the loss again. She’s been gone for almost 20 years and still miss her like it’s yesterday. Many of my friends have them and will probably be just as hard to see them go. It’s simply not fair they don’t live as long as they do.

    #72 17 days ago

I sit hear reading all of these posts and cry and sadness can linger, but yet a human death a few tears or one good cry and done. Amazing the connection and love our pets bring us.

Sorry for your loss. Just give the following below a consideration, my wife and I did after our last dog passed. We waited two years before getting another dog. Some can, some can’t. I didn’t want to but glad I did.

My favorite Twilight Zone of all time is “The Hunt”. It answers the age old question whether dogs get into Heaven or not.

The house feels so empty and I keep waiting to hear and see my friend pop his head around every corner. This is just gut wrenching. We've found it helpful to keep talking to him and have lots of pictures spread out around the house.

Yesterday we decided to take a drive into town just to try and distract ourselves. I reached out to nightsearcher to see if he was free and thankfully he was. It was a welcome distraction to sit and talk for a hr about dogs and life in general over a couple drinks and a couple hours of pins (Wow I suck at pinball when I'm not into it) It was the first time since Monday night I went a couple hours without crying. I truly appreciated it and though I considered you a friend before, you my friend are a friend for life Thanks

I am writing a short story called “it turned out all animals have souls.”

Basically this changes everything in my story.
Hell, is where the story takes place.
I intend to include a snapshot of whale killers and their grisly unending fate. But dogs and cats travel in packs hunting deserving humans in the my afterlife.

    #77 16 days ago

Again to the poster who lost his best friend. I am so very sorry.

I have a hairless cat, I would place the cat second in my life behind my fiancée. I never understood how an animal could be so important to a person.

And then I brought home my princess. I would destroy anyone who hurts her.

I almost cannot fathom this type of loss.

I just wanted to say, again. Condolences.

Sorry for the loss Dirk, to you and your wife. Just went through this with one of my boxers two years ago, and I lost others before that. It’s never easy.

My little boxer Jess just turned 13, which is extraordinary for a boxer. But I fear she won’t be making it to Christmas.

Sounds like you gave the little guy a really good life, and that’s all anybody can hope for. Some really good, comforting posts in this thread.

You certainly have my sympathy, and empathy.

I had to say goodbye my cat Kimono (Kiki) this last Saturday. We were best buddies since 2005. She turned people who “were not cat people” into cat lovers. She was a special little soul. She was always by my side. She will be dearly missed.

op's dog seems to be part pyraneese, was it? something about those dogs, ive owned many dogs over the yrs. but none will compare to him. great companions and smart as a whip. lost mine 3 yrs ago, and still think about him everyday. them being gone never gets easy, with time, just a little easier.

    #91 3 days ago

We never did the DNA test but always figured Jimi was a border collie/shelty/retriever cross. The white could have been Paranesse. People always thought part husky but definitely not the right coat. He didn't pluck the way a husky would.

He was a medium/large dog. Always 69 to 71 lbs on his yearly checkup.
