First post here we go. A few pics of my alien poker machine. My dad bought it in the 90's and it ran great for years. then sat for years. about 5 years ago we started working on it and replaced the 40 pin connector a couple coils a bracket and some random transistor that controlled an Ace hole.I also put in a remote battery box. the machine ran well for a couple of years then got packed away for a move. after a couple years in teh garage its in the house now and with fresh batteries it powered up straight into play mode XD.
But...there are some issues . coils randomly firing during play, ghost scoring and such. Im told its cause my power supply is failing so I have plans to rebuild the power supply soon. and I already have new resistors to install for the lamp matrix. and zener diodes to dim the display just a hare to make it last longer. wel i feel like im rambling here is a quick video i just shot and uploaded to you tube. See you all soon

about the power supply I have found my parts from the previous order, in the pic, and just ordered new caps for parts numbers c7 c11 and c15.

I had an Alien Poker years ago. I kind of miss that game, it's a fun early Williams.

Well I finished up the fireproofing and bulletproofing of the power supply board and next I will replace all of the sockets . Im still having the issues of coils firing randomly during a game and ghost scoring. In fact if i tap on a chip it will lock up the game , or make a coil fire which leads me to belive the sockets need to be replaced. They are not scanbee so i thought i might get away with them for a bit. I think they are molex brand.
Question about the sockets do i replace every socket on the board or just the flipper and rom sockets?Ill upload a pic with the sockets in question circled . Also could the 40 pin connector be suspect as well? I did replace that 8 or so years ago and back then (8 years ago) it had completly brought the game back to life .

If you can make the game do funky stuff by messing with chips then your sockets are junk. Inspect all of them, change what ones are bad.

So my question is does every socket on the boards need to be replaced besides the rom sockets? the small black sockets and large red sockets that i placed in the red outlines.

If it were me,I wouldn't add alot of work unless I wanted to bulletproof the board. Vid1900 has a great topic on it. You can just go after the problem ones for now. You could also send the board out to be bulletproofed if you skill level isn't up to snuff yet.

Thanks for the quick reply Grizleyrig. Im ordering 15 of the IC socket 20 Pin SIP that should be enough to do them all. I think i can get them swapped out without too much trouble. I also have the resistors to replace the burnt lamp matrix ones. piece by piece i guess it will all come together.
