Went to menards today and picked up some parts for the rotisserie.

I ordered the overlay today. With that being said i finished the backbox. Turned out really well. Soldered in the fuse block and hooked up the bridge rectifiers. Installed the crappy displays (which will get replaced) and adjusted the brackets so everything lines up.
Want to thank Sheprd for the great looking backglass that he had extra. It looks great.

There has been a slight delay in progress due to my job. I work 3 days on 3 days off, and the boss thinks we need to work some OT.

Progress will pick back up later this wk with the last of the cab stencil work and move on to the grounding straps.

I will also be doing some scan work hopefully this wkend, i got a 4670 scanjet and will be doin the pf and plastics.

Stay tuned and thanks for looking.

#104 4 years ago

Cabinet stencil work is complete. The black is finished on the front but it looks like I forgot to get a pic of that. Anyway ill get that soon.
And ill probably scan the cab and backbox just so i have it for future graphics or whatever. I do have access to us cutter machine now.

The playfield has been put on the rotisserie and the disassembly has started. Yikes..... This is going to be nerve racking and exciting. And man is this thing nasty.
This thing must of had tons and tons of play considering the ball shooter lane area. The amount of wood that has been slowly banged away over the yrs is crazy.

New power switch installed today. While taking the cab apart awhile back I noticed that the wires had been soldered together, so the power switch essentially was the power cord. A piece of wood and metal were cut and painted, hole drilled in the cab bottom, and power switch installed.

And the coin door. What a mess. At some point someone really wanted inside this thing. It took some hammering, a vice and some tools but it got to looking presentable. Wiring was cleaned and parts were painted.

Pulled the coin mech out of the simple green and it looks pretty good. Took a little more wire brushing to get the hidden spots but all in all it cleaned up nicely.

Everything on the playfield has been cleared off. I wasn’t planning on doing inserts but would ya look at that. Im doin inserts now.

They really came out much easier then i was anticipated. It doesn't take much heat at all.

I pulled one out and tried to sand flat. It was working but man i couldnt see doin that to all the inserts. So i spent $18 and bought all new.

I did a f-14 and replaced all the inserts. You will still need to sand them flat. When they come brand new they still aren't perfectly flat and they may even have numbers cast into the faces. Just so you know.

#115 4 years ago
Quoted from Grizlyrig:

Still, 300 bucks is a score for this. Well worth the time to fix up.

A buddy of mine bought one in better shape than this for $85. No keys, so we drilled the locks & found $56 in quarters inside.
That was a nice score. I cleaned it up & repaired it for him, about $225 in parts....

Thanks for the heads up. Yeah i was planning on doing that, I just didnt want to spend the time hand sanding all the inserts. The old ones were cupped pretty bad, the triangle ones were curled at the point so they were also above the play field.

Very Nice. Did the guy just acquire it some how and not know what he had? Or just needed it gone? The guy was originally wanting $400, I said Id do $275 and then he countered for $300.

I think you did the right thing getting new inserts but all the new ones will need to be sanded still.

#119 4 years ago

So are you guys saying I will still need to hand sand? I just figured I would install and then sand them while im doing the playfield.

If you are doing the overlay you will be able to install and sand them then. Probably the easiest approach.

I will be needing to do lots of clean up on the drops. And its missing some parts to reset the targets.

Anyone have a picture of this.

The only other part number I have found for that is a Diner plastic.

#133 4 years ago

I'll dig around in my parts bins if I get a chance I might have one I know I had a parted AP playfield a long time ago and I almost never throw anything out.

Finding it is another story, though. Hopefully I just pulled the drop bank off the PF and tossed it into the "williams drop targets" bin.

Didnt get much done this wkend. But got the playfield sanded and the coin slot for the door put back together with new inserts.

Those drop target guides are hard to find and when you do find them they are pricey, think $12 a piece. I found a 3D print scan for them and ordered 7 of them to be printed. Total cost was about $15. Got the target assembly rebuilt but haven't put it back in the game yet since I'm swapping playfields so I haven't tested it but it looks like it will work perfectly.

Not bad, 7 for $15 - let us know how they work. Almost always these get damaged because people overtighten them which is NOT the thing to do - just snug them down.

Damaged originals could possibly be fixed if you remove the damaged post on them and replace with some kind of spacer.

Not only overtighten but the plastic is brittle after 40 years, doesn't take much to break them.

Quoted from davidw:

Those drop target guides are hard to find and when you do find them they are pricey, think $12 a piece. I found a 3D print scan for them and ordered 7 of them to be printed. Total cost was about $15. Got the target assembly rebuilt but haven't put it back in the game yet since I'm swapping playfields so I haven't tested it but it looks like it will work perfectly.

I have printed ones from the 2nd link. I have only tried them on my Scorpion, but not sure why they'd be different for Alien Poker. At any rate holes for the screws that hold the PCBs in place were too large for the stock screws. I happened to have some self-tapping machine screws that were larger and worked for me. All in all, the 3D printed spacers work well.

Started cleaning up holes for the inserts. I found this stone bit worked the best. It cleans up all the old glue but doesn’t hog out the hole, so it keeps a nice tight dit for the new insert.

Looking good with her newly painted legs, bolts, colored washer and updated inside support brackets.[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

I wanted to get some red washers like your blue ones. Where’d you get these?
