Quoted from Krupps4:How about EHoH, Stranger Things, Star Wars, Godzilla, Guardians of the Galaxy? Those are properties that everyone recognizes. Seems like those are more likely to draw people in than non-licensed properties. Not to say the ones you mentioned aren’t great. As a new person, I guess I would want all the bells and whistles of a modern game and then back fill with variety once I have that. Anyway, I respect your opinion. Just not sure if I entirely agree with it. It’s just pinball and nothing about it is that complicated.
For sure, to each their own. I loved pinball, but my wife was pretty new to it. Our first two games were AFM and MM, and she loved them from the get-go. A newbie understands the objectives within the first 10 seconds. Neither have many cheap drains. The callouts are fun and they are very approachable.
A game like AIQ is kinda the opposite. Everyone recognizes the theme, but most newbies have no clue what to do. They hit the spinning disc, but then they have no idea how to select a battle, how to battle, or why they are battling. The callouts are pretty meh and the outlanes can be brutal. It is fun for an experienced player, or someone who loves pinball, but new players are going to have a tough time with it.
The Shadow is kinda the same. I love the game, but 99% of non-pinball people don't even notice the diverters and have even less of a clue how to use them. The theme is pretty obscure and if you miss your shots you can have some very, very short games. Most non-pinball people who play it tell me it is the least favorite game in our collection.
