Just joined the club today. I’ve played it on location and at a friends house, but I grabbed it to get to know it a bit better. My plan was just to have a quick visit, but now I’m not so sure. It’s more fun than I thought it would be.

Quoted from PoMC:

Mustang is a lot of fun, but it's really bare compared to pins a few years earlier. If you don't replace the stock music in Mustang, then that brings it down a few notches in terms of fun. Mustang really shines as a great music pin when you replace the songs with your own favorite

Before I owned it I was working on a good mix for it. But then when I got it, I just went with stock. I’m sure I’ll replace it at some point, but for now, I like it as is. It almost has a cheese factor going on.

Go Ford Go, Go Ford Go... awesome. I totally lost my love for Ford after my 2007 F150, but the game is a blast.

I have a Hooked on Pinball tachometer mod that I took off my pin and was just sitting around so I’ve decided to sell it. $50 including shipping in the continental U.S.

Sold! That’s going in my Mustang.

Quoted from PinballT:

Hi,
I have a Mustang by Stern but it is missing the cable harness. I believe it is coming from the switch cable harness from the head down to body. I am missing the one from back of cabinet to speaker, coin door, flippers and so on. I spoke with someone from stern and they said I needed the two cable harness. 1 large one with mostly everything on it and an adaptor harness. Part numbers 036-5511-13 and 036-6368. I had to order from distributor so I ordered through Game Exchange of Colorado. They were great and I got the parts. Well I am putting them on but I have a female end coming off the head and the harness that I ordered is also a female connector. So I am thinking that's why I have the adaptor. Well it is a female also. I am LOST now. Can someone shoot some pictures from there MUSTANG Pro cabinet. I need some from where the head connects to the body wires and all around the coin door. Also any suggestions about the female connectors. I am thinking Stern made it backwards. Thanks! Tom

PM sent.

I think it’s completely done. I couldn’t imagine Stern putting the resources into such a low volume game. I’m lucky that I haven’t owned it that long, so when I got it, I had already assumed it was done.

Is there something you would really want to see changed in an update?

#1659 5 years ago
Quoted from TKDalumni:

Would like the colorDMD treatment though!

+1

That is definitely something I want in the game. Most of my Stern games already have them.

Quoted from ccbiggsoo7:

new music would be nice, get sick of listening to jan and dean!

Quoted from sirlonzelot:

You can do this your own with pinballbrowser

This is absolutely the answer. Pinball Browser is an AWESOME piece of software that works great on SAM games. It’s quick after you learn it, and well worth the money to buy it.

The reason I highlight SAM games working best for it isn’t anything to do with Pinball Browser, it’s that SPIKE games are a bit of a pain to do. But SAM software is tiny compared to that, so you can have any music or call outs you want in the game with a bit of work.

Quoted from sirlonzelot:

I am showing later a video of my coloring.

Instant buy, even though I haven’t seen your work yet. This game cries a little each time I look at the DMD.

Quoted from sirlonzelot:

I think pinballmike can help you, to get one

Well I think the issues with it come down to time and support. The work you did looks amazing. And if it was on a ColorDMD, I would have already PayPal’d them to buy it. I currently have 5 ColorDMD’s in my house. And on the right games, they rock. But it’s about more than Color. Yes, they are expensive. But they support you. All I do is send money, then toss it in a game and update it from the software I download from them. They are very responsive to issues. Really you buy the whole package. Quick shipping and suppport.

As a middle aged guy without a ton of extra time on my hands, I appreciate things that are already simplified for me. If I have to screw around building something and getting it all together myself, it’s likely to end up in a box at the back of a closet while I stand there playing pinball.

At least those are my issues. I’m not speaking for MustangPaul

The hilarious part is that I have a Mustang Pro and I was saying to myself "What crossing ramp???".

I sure wish someone would do the dmd in color, I want it sooooo bad.

Whoever was working on it must have lost interest. Maybe ColorDMD should get some new blood on the project.

Quoted from MadMaxDad:

My Pro has started autoplunging right away.
As soon as I press Start.
Always on the first game when it’s booted up.
It doesnt auto plunge on ball 2.
After first game , once in a while I get to choose a mode when I start a game.
Any ideas?

Well I always start those with a switch test. Boot it up, and go right into switch test. Take a picture of the DMD to remember any closed switches. Then clear the balls, and go back in. I’ll now count the balls (you would be surprised how many times +1 or -1 will confuse a game and it’s sending a chase ball out to find the other one). Then I’ll pound on the playfield... that’s a very specific term. I’m not smashing it, but I’m giving it a hard thump with the side of my fist right on the middle of the playfield, away from inserts. I’m checking if a switch is too closely gapped confusing the game. I then check the trough over again. Loose connectors causing noise, switches not activating with the balls at 100%.

Really the game is just a bit confused because it’s not getting the input it expects. So it’s doing what it thinks it needs to do to fix that, then the software takes over and has controls to have it do it’s best to keep running (which is why it happens on the first game but may not after that).

#1843 4 years ago
Quoted from MadMaxDad:

Weird that the software only got upset about it on Ball 1.

Not really. The software adapts to the conditions at hand, otherwise the game would almost be unplayable. A single switch failure would take the game down otherwise. So over the years developers have learned to adapt. They couldn't tell that a ball was in the shooter lane, but it was no longer in the trough and not over the jam sensor, so they just hit the launch. Once they successfully get another playfield switch, they realize that yes, there was a ball in the shooter lane and that switch must be messed up, so they just stop checking it and disable it until the next time the game is rebooted. They had to do things like that for location play, otherwise the games would always be down due to "minor" issues.

It isn't quite shipping yet. But I am VERY happy to hear that it will "Soon". I just couldn't quite click on the "Add to cart" button until the firmware for the Pro is there.

Quoted from littlecammi:

I want to order NOW, but I'm not sure which way to go (LED or LCD).
(So glad he took the time to colorize the alternate images for my BOSS premium!)
Is the LED an easier install than the LCD ? I usually go LCD but I'm okay with LED if it fits better.
Does the LCD require any other parts (spacers, gaskets) to install in the Mustang panel?

I've only put the LED one into a Simpsons (TSPP) and Circus Voltaire (LED is the only option in this game). The LED is easier to mount (in my opinion) because of its size. It is basically like replacing a DMD.

The LCD one is a bit different to install, but not crazy. This is because of its size. It's big. Also in the metal backbox you need the spaces and stuff, so make sure you order them along with the clear shield. It will also be set back due to the backbox design, so you will want a gasket to block the light leak for people towards the side.

Now in my book, hands down the LCD. And that is because I dislike the LED version and wouldn't allow one in my house. The LED is a pinpoint of light, and each color is offset a tiny amount. Therefore it looks out of focus all the time to me. I find it too bright and pinpointy. I've adjusted like crazy, but there just isn't a setting where it looks good to my eyes. Honestly if the LED one was the only version, I'd stick with the DMD that comes with the game. HOWEVER the LCD is just perfect to me. I spend a bit of time each time I put one in to dial in the contrast and brightness for that specific game. It just looks great in a lot of games I own.

Heck with that. Foot on the floor all the way to 6 Ball Multiball Glory! If you aint double tapping the flippers out of the gears before that, you're driving like a grandma.

Quoted from Schwaggs:

The ColorDMD for Mustang is really well done. You won't be disappointed.

I've still never seen it. The day the code for it was released, I bought the ColorDMD for Mustang. But then I loaned out my Mustang to a friend before I got it installed. So I ended up putting that one into Iron Man... but then proceeded to loan out Iron Man for the winter. So at some point I'll get back both games and put everything where it should be. That just means I need a bigger house to keep all my games in one place

Overall my Mustang Pro has only needed cleanings. It’s been a very reliable game for me.

Right now my game is on vacation at a friends house. I love having a game out of my house for 6-12 months, because it’s like getting a brand new game when it comes home.

Quoted from Lermods:

but I didn't realize they were $500 now, pretty hard to justify it even though they make really nice products

I love ColorDMD. I have them in 5 games currently. But the psychological threshold of 500 just seems too high. I'm not sure I would have bought them if they had been that expensive.

Quoted from MustangPaul:

Kind of quiet here, so how is everyones game holding up? No problems with my pro since NIB.

I lent mine out to a friend in exchange for a game I wanted to have in my game room for a while. He is loving it. This is the second time I’ve loaned out Mustang. It seem rare enough that people want to take it for a spin.

Quoted from Magadovski:

Any one who knows how many pro
They produced?

Unfortunately everything outside of Stern is just a guess. I always assumed it wasn't too many though. It's a fun little game that has the fun of a good "risk vs reward".

I'm sure if you could offer shipping, you would not have too much trouble at $5600 being the only person with one for sale.

Yeah, but then I wouldn't own a Mustang. Gotta have my priorities in line.
