Hey Guys, joined the club a couple of weeks ago with an LE model and we're having a good time with it. Unfortunately, an issue has popped up with it today. The turntable has stopped spinning when the play field is in place, but the motor still runs. When the playfield is upright and I run the diagnostic test, the table will turn again and find the correct index, but it's a no-go when playfield is back horizontal. I've checked all the couplings and attachments and every things tight without any noticeable binding when I spin the mech by hand. It appears that there is slippage in the turntable motor gear box that is causing the issue. Just checking to see if any other owners have had a similar issue with their turntable? Anyways, Mustang has been fun for the 74 plays we've gotten out of it so far!

Hey congrats, an LE too. Wish I could help but I have a Pro as you know.

#852 8 years ago

Hi Paul! I was able to get one mod on the machine so far. On the Ford rollover lights, I swapped blue led's in for the white ones. Looks much nicer IMO, should have been that way from the factory. Your leg light mod might look cool in blue for me. Now I need the tach mod from Hooked (hopefully back in stock soon!)...

Had this issue on 2 different premiums. I'd try replacing the small rubber rings on the metal disc that turns the turntable with a single larger rubber ring. the kind you use for play field posts. Try a 3/4" or 1". whatever fits best. I think this will take care of the issue for you.

Yeah blue would look cool. Buy the leg protectors, felt protectors and led strips and come on over and I'll show ya how to make them.

Thanks for the info! Since I don't have any rings that size on hand, I'll put in an order for a bunch of random rubber and stuff I need for my other pins. Also sent off a note to the distributor about the issue...
I had two of my machines go down yesterday (I was afraid to touch the third working pin!) Plus I picked up 2 wedge head pins the day before that need big shop jobs, so I'm down to 1 out of 5 pins working right now! Lol, I guess that's the reason to have a bunch of machines, so at least few of them can be played while you're working on the rest!

The Stern Manual shows that there are 2 rings on the turntable drive. 1 inch by 1/8 inch thick urethane O rings

Sorry to hear that, that's one of the reasons to have more then one. Time to have your boys learn a thing or three.

The four legs of the turntable are slotted so I think you can loosen those nuts and push it towards the drive wheel. Use the diagnostic menu to test it, it doesn't always turn in the game.

^^^ Hey Thanks! I just finished talking with Stern (Pat) today about my issue and I think it's all taken care of. I spoke with him on Friday and he gave me some ideas to try and fix the problem (after also checking w/ game designer, programmer, and parts designer). The turntable took a lot of effort to turn and the motor didn't seem to have enough torque. None of the solutions we discussed seemed to work till I decided to take the entire turntable assembly apart. At the bottom, inside the shaft and underneath the washers, I found a crusty, waxlike substance that looked like the cause. After cleaning that all off and reassembling it all, the unit spun like a top! Whatever the stuff was, it caused a lot of binding or friction on the turntable, then the clutch on the turntable motor would release and stop the rotation. Works great now, so thanks for all the suggestions on what to try!

Installed my tach and shooter rod mods this weekend, way cool!

Looking to add a few more things as time allows...

Fast and Fun pin!

Quoted from BlueIrocGuy:

What the heck, did you tell Stern what you found. On a new game too. You'd think after 20 years the stuff would get like that, not being new.

#864 8 years ago

They thought it might have been some white lithium grease? The rest of the shaft and the plastic disc that the turntable rides on has a light coating of machine oil. So after the bottom was cleaned off, the turntable spins like it was designed to, freely! Yes, I suppose this is something folks could think about keeping an eye on and checking out the condition of 5-10+ years down the road...

High on my wishlist, but I am kind of broke at this time...
and I have not seen a single (HUO) Pro for sale for less than 5,000 euros. No way!

Maybe your Mustang pin got too close to a Simpsons pin and Krusty the Clown got into your game?

Anyone know why the switch in the bowl would stop working ? It hasnt completely stopped, but it's WAY less than when I first got the machine. Tried slightly bending it back in, didnt do much.
Finally got the GC on her though !

I do know that it only registers so many time when spinning then that is it

#870 8 years ago

Hey Rock--you gonna be at Expo ? Where can I buy yer under-cab kit ? Thanks man.

Also-- its not registering at all last few games. No revs, no nuttin. I remember reading somebody cleaned their ramps and this happened. Funny, never had this issue until I wiped mine down with Novus.

Did you somehow get Novus in the actual switch mechanism? Does it look and sound sound (click) like it's functioning? Have you checked the electrical connection on the underside of the playfield?

#872 8 years ago

A little more aggressive bend did the trick....but thanks for your suggestion Tuna.

I played a Mustang LE at a party a few weeks ago. Great pin!
I traded for a huo Boss Premium #88 last week. This pin is way underrated, I love the shots on this deck!

Good for you, some people are just snobs and hate the game because it's about a Ford and they think it's just about promoting the car. Like Avatar isn't about promoting the movie and Batman isn't promoting Batman. ALL the games out there are promoting SOMETHING or other right?

Anyway welcome to the club enjoy your game.

#878 8 years ago

Are the color dmds out yet? If so anyone have one to review?

This pin has an unusual amount of bad press because: 1) It's not a Super Hero Pin 2) It is a Ford pin
Guess what, it's a Racing/Music Pin! I was damn near speechless when I played my 1st game on this pin, it's that good. I had bought into the negative press.
The racing modes, the Sound FX, the Call outs, the Music are all Great! Plus you can change the music to whatever you want! Motley Crue "Kickstart my Heart" is a must!
And don't get me started on the left Ramp/Orbit, it is just a blast!

I'll post pictures of it shortly, it came with a couple of mods, & I'm looking @ a few more.

You not only picked one of the most underrated recent Sterns, you chose the really rare one (no more than 200 Boss premium to my knowledge?!).

You also joined the friendliest pin community I know! Starting with MustangPaul...

So welcome aboard and enjoy. I'll join that club too one day.

#882 8 years ago

Regretfully, I may leave the club. Mustang is a blast and as close to an original theme as we may see from Stern (after changing the songs).

I only have room for 4 and I rotate pretty frequently, so Mustang is up for trade.

I didn't realize it was that limited of a run on the Boss Premiums. Here are a couple of pics of her.

I believe there could be even less than the 200 mentioned,we have never seen a number higher than around 110 or so,I hope you keep this game a little longer than your other games, seems like you kind of get tired of them after a very short while and this one is a keeper not that amh was not.

I think I will. I'm big into the motor sports scene, so the theme resonates well with me, & this pin has a fantastic lay out & rule set. It's truly a great pin all the way around!

All what you say is soooo true, I'm glad you played the game and found out how much fun it REALLY is. For mods get mirror blades, lit flipper buttons, tach, the shooter housing light up and make yourself a pair of my leg light-ups which along with the shooter housing light up makes the front of the game REALLY come to life with color. If your planning many 5 and 12v mods a must have is the DKpinball power distribution board. I have one in all my Stern games and it's a lifesaver when it comes to powering mods. Happy modding.

I love BDK. Totally my speed and I think this one will stay a while. I installed mirror blades, LED OCD, decals, ramp mod, and some other stuff.

And the most important thing was updating the horrible callouts. Almost there...
