So I am wanting to install a sound system into my game room. I have easy access above the ceiling so I think I want to do ceiling mount speakers but am trying to figure out what to run for the jukebox software.
I have a few raspberry pi and a compatible touchscreen that I would love to use but am open to ideas. I REALLY want some sort of touch screen interface that is mounted to the wall so that someone does not have to use their phone to control the music playing.
Figured some people here have done something similar. What have other people done to handle this?

Why not just buy a jukebox

Already have one and meh. Trying to get more. I have an old seeburg 45 juke that does stereo. Keep toying with ditching it.

Maybe get a Sonos amp to drive the in ceiling speakers, then a controller of your choice ... could be phones, but could get a dedicated iPad or android tablet and either leave it on a table or get an in-wall mount ... I thought about an in wall mount but realized no one wants to stand at the panel to surf, but your needs may be different. Love the Sonos library/service options.

Well I am looking at running Media Player Daemon. With that I can provide a QR code that you can scan with your phone and instantly control the play list. The touch screen panel on the wall would be more for just simple usage such as song skip or what not. Honestly the wall controller is not even needed I just have it so may as well use it.

So far it seems like volumio is winning, especially since they now have an x86 build so I can use my old micro server hardware to run it.

I will look into the Sonos system and see what I think, thanks for the recommendation.

How about an old coin op radio?
25 cents gets you an hour of AM radio, includes tube warm up time!

Can't you connect remote speakers to your juke?

I can but the issue is that the juke holds a limited amount. Also most 45s have a b side which sucks. I do have quite a few that have hits on both sides (my favorite is Layla and Bell Bottom Blues). I am looking for something more digital. I could add an external DAC with tubes to make it sound better.

Go with the SONOS setup. Simple and elegant. I've had Sonos since their inception over ten years ago.

Hook their Connect AMP directly to speakers and control with your smart phone or a PC/MAC

If you need more power use their Connect with an external amp http://www.sonos.com/en-us/shop/connect.html

Check out Kodi if you're looking for software. They have a great tablet app that allows control over the streaming device.

    Here ya go:

Popular golden A sides, and strong B sides to boot.
I have a '54 HF-100R, and I've filled it with stock 45s from here for years.

NO wasted space and no 'dead' B-sides - All good tunes, all the time!

But, if you really WANT compressed music ...

All of my discs are ripped to either flac, shn, or (lossless) ape.

Vinyl/sound repro quality from them has been consistently excellent, every order.
    Pretty impressive resource.

    Thanks, Toucanf16, I agree!
    It's a grade 1, ground-up Zuddie Smith restoration.
Amp boards and all tube work done by the incomparable Bill Bickers (www.jukeboxfridaynight.com).
    1300 watts of pure love.

I worked 4 years in radio in the wild late '70s and early '80s actually spinning vinyl, so it has a special place in my heart.
