Quoted from robotron911:For those of us in our 40s or older, think about your childhood. Do you see bees, or even grasshoppers, lady bugs, butterflies, now like you did when you were a child? For me the answer is, "No". And it's not even remotely close. Climate and habitat change effect the lowest rung of the food chain first and work their way up. I am not a climate fear-mongerer, but the reality is that change is here and some of it is already irreversible.

Please, Unless the area was crop dusted recently you would have just as many insects today as there was 20 years ago. As the owner of a pest control company I see just as many insects today as I did when I was a kid in the 70s. Nothing has changed.
It appears that these hornets are currently only in the state of Washington, but if they come to my area, I plan to put one of these traps out... Maybe it will also catch wasps and other nasty insects too... I would not be too disappointed if all wasps, yellow jackets and hornets were exterminated in my area.

Said the guy who owns pinball machines! How many gallons of fuel to haul them around? Chemicals to treat all the wood and metal. None of us are innocent here.
On the other hand...I DO love honey.

Not my experience. I went back to the home I grew up at in rural Kansas last summer. Middle of nowhere. No pesticides. No fertilized fields within 6 miles, so no pesticide overspray. Not experiencing drought or too much rain.
The lower number of insects, particularly pollinators, was noticeable immediately. As were grasshoppers. And, my "childhood" would have been almost 40 years ago, not 20, if that makes a difference in your statement.
