Quoted from Blacksun:

Still posted on Sterns site... "Production limited to 500 machines"
any attorneys care to weigh in?[quoted image]

I’m an attorney - there is no question if they changed a limited production run and added units AFTER taking orders anyone placing that order would be able to sue for a refund or the lost value. Good luck finding that it’s worth it to sue though, no attorney would take this kind of case on a contingency, meaning you will pay the attorney to pursue the case. The legal fees will cost more than the damage claim you could possibly win. The real damage to Stern is loss of customer good will and trust. There is obviously plenty of evidence in this thread that if they do so it will cost them in their reputation. That’s worth a lot to a company. Hopefully they wise up.

#5127 5 years ago

And I am in on an LE of this model lol. I’m keeping it regardless. I love pinball and although the limited edition has some collectible value I buy them for the fun not the investment. A toy is a poor investment IMHO.

#5130 5 years ago
Quoted from Jvspin:

Wow! The LE's must really be in demand for Stern to increase their number. I better get one quick before they're all gone. Should be an excellent investment.

I will say the only reason I ordered one before getting to play one is that I saw that the LE’s were sold out the day they were announced on three of the sites I buy from. I have never seen new LE’s sell out like that. I’m sure Stern underestimated the demand and is just thinking about trying to meet it. It was the color for me, I don’t like the all b & w premium so it was LE or nothing. I bought one the next day. It does look fun though.

Quoted from Mudflaps:

Man, I’m really digging Munsters... way more than I thought I would. It’s like a best-of feature packed into a single game.
You’ve got the TFTC crazy upside down ramp, MM launch mech, TWD Herman magnet, FG mini playfield, etc. I don’t see these features as derivative at all, they’re kind of a ‘greatest hits’ of cool stuff. Not to mention the art is just on another level.
I’m more on board with a Pro, but I’m a cheap-o. You really can’t go wrong with any model.

I agree I think the combo of features and layout is really amazing and looks like a ton of fun. I watched three hours of CES video and the center ball drain prevalent in so many machines seems to be much less of a problem. I just had to get the LE and the side art is sick! I can’t wait to get mine. This machine looks crazy fun. And I agree some people are making way too much about the numbers game. No one has an LE yet so no damage done if you don’t like the change if they have in fact added units just cancel your order. I agree with the poster who stated that Stern has brought pinball back to life more than any other company so I’ll cut them some slack as long as they don’t change the unit levels after starting to deliver them.

#5141 5 years ago

I saw the pre-production units had the premium in color and the LE in black and white. I bet the change to color on LE only made the pre-sales fly off the shelves.

#5153 5 years ago
Quoted from Eskaybee:

I’ll try to get this thing back on topic. Agree or disagree; but Growing up i absolutely couldn’t stand it when the Munsters went color. The B&W show is where it’s at, hence i say Premium B&W is the only way to go to own this game at home. IMO.

I definitely liked the show in black and white, but not the pin. Just personal preference but that has got to be adding to the quick sales don’t you think? The limited color full feature machines. Yeah B & W is cool also but just too plain for me. The colors and artwork are always important to me in the pin design.

#5203 5 years ago
Quoted from Blacksun:

Thanks Rick for the reply, Apologies you got some down votes on your response. Sad we can't have an open conversation as to what this extra 100 alleged units impact has financially both on us the customers or Stern. Both monetarily or reputation wise...
Thinking out loud, I would think Stern adding another 100 units could be perceived as devaluing the current purchased LE units by 20%? The same exact amount Stern is allegedly increasing. $1,799.80 ea unit. $1,799.80 x 500 = $899,900...

That’s okay. I was just trying to answer honestly. Bottom line it’s not the smartest thing to do but if they announce the change before delivering any units and allow cancellations that is about all you could expect. They probably have a bigger hit than they thought and just want to meet the demand. I get it. Hopefully in the future they are clearer about intentions.

#5205 5 years ago
Quoted from dts:

An attorney gets downvotes for talking about a class action lawsuit against Stern. Now apologize to the attorney, poor guy. WTF?!
Man, if we have come to this, legal action over Stern adding another 100 LEs, the end is near. This is a seriously messed up culture. We should be thanking Stern for giving more people the opportunity to have an LE and not acting like our precious jewels are devalued. Of course they are devalued, the instant you open the box. So they projected 500 and had demand, and changed it to 600 for a small number of people. I bet they could sell 1000.
Back to the machine, please! It looks great.

I wasn’t talking about a class action lawsuit or suggesting one. I just answered the legal question. Some people are way too touchy for no apparent reason.

#5236 5 years ago
Quoted from dts:

We don't need legal counsel, the argument has no merit. You said people have the right to sue, but don't bother as it won't be worth it. Completely unhelpful to fan the flames of discontent when Stern is doing some amazing work. Let's talk about the game!

I wasn’t fanning anything. What the hell is wrong with some of you guys? People are attacking each other over a legitimate issue some people have. This is supposed to be a fun site about pinball. If people are going to freak out to this level that’s kind of sad. Now I can’t even answer someone’s question without someone bitching. Lighten the F up. It’s a game.

#5367 5 years ago

It definitely seems official. Game Room Guys list 600 LE’s. They still have some for sale if any of you are still looking for an LE.

#5369 5 years ago
Quoted from EricHadley:

Ugh we need unboxings.....all this drama is too much

My dealer’s site says he already has premiums in stock. Hope to see one in his shop soon. My LE comes in March he tells me.

#5559 5 years ago

My dealer just told me my LE should ship first week of February

#5619 5 years ago

I don’t know TWIP’s deep dive seemed pretty satisfied with The Munsters. I agree I’d prefer drop targets but it still looks really fun. I will have 4 pins when I’m done, so I’d like a little variety in layout and features anyway. This one seems to shoot better than any I’ve seen. I’ve got a Deadpool LE also. I love that machine but no way I could say it shoots smoothly. It’s unique in its own way and I find quite challenging. I don’t see me getting bored with Deadpool for a long time. Have to see with Munsters.

#5620 5 years ago

Both Zach and Greg from SDTM said they loved it also. Episode 85.

I truly hope that is the case. You guys are literally my go to for pinball reviews! (Hope you do AFMr soon)

Me too I always look for an SDTM review when considering a new pin, and they are hilarious.

Check this out, The Pinball Company already jacked up the price to $9,999.00 before apparently selling out. Vultures.

126 pages on a pin no one has yet. Wow. Mostly negative too. Let’s see what it’s like when we play it first huh before judging a machine you have never touched. Just sayin’

#6522 5 years ago

Ok I have to admit I haven’t read every post of these 131 pages, so I’m sorry if this was already posted. However, since so many of you are worried about how the gameplay works I thought I would share the link for the official game play reveal from the designers and builders of The Munsters. The entire team is here. It sounds really cool and doesn’t really seem shallow to me but I am new to pinball and certainly no expert. I do know that everything I’ve seen about the game so far I really like.

Man the pissing contest in this thread between opinions is getting tiresome. I agree with those that say state your opinion and let it go! We don’t need 20 posts of the same opinion. We get it - some of you love this game, some of you hate it. Welcome to pinball! The variety in designs, layouts and themes leaves something for everyone. If you don’t like this game, don’t buy it. Isn’t that simple?

#7395 5 years ago
Quoted from Monte:

It’s not a simple solution. Most of the opinions are people who want it be as perfect as possible. I’ve been waiting and drooling over this theme. I want to buy this game. However, the positive position on this game as described by a lot of people has been nothing more than the beauty & fun. That’s one half of the equation. The common takeaway issue, appears to be the negative of simplicity due to layout and code and that boredom plagued a lot of machines. With limited space and the price of these machines that’s not something you could just buy and decide you want to get rid of it in a week or two.
As a person who was about to have a hair trigger purchase on this game, I think it’s important to read these opinions. Obviously I’ll make that decision when I play it myself. However, it’s caused me to slow down and I appreciate these opinions for that.

Yes I agree everyone’s opinion is welcome. But that opinion does not need to be stated over and over. Once you are on record how you feel, what else can you add? Furthermore, it seems that one should withhold judgment until actually playing the machine. The most useful opinions and reviews for all of us are from those who have already played this pin.

#7418 5 years ago
Quoted from Monte:

Umm, it’s a forum. That’s what happens, regardless if repetitive.
fo·rum
/ˈfôrəm/Submit
noun
1.
a place, meeting, or medium where ideas and views on a particular issue can be exchanged.
You are correct about the second furtherance. They hold the truest value.

Thanks for the defintion. The exchange of ideas is the principle point of any forum -agreed. The issue is the endless repetition. Repetition does nothing to advance one’s cause except perhaps a delusion in the speaker’s mind that the more you state your opinion the more likely others will accept your opinion as fact. In fact, the true nature of human behavior proves the opposite - the more you repeat yourself, the less likely people will accept your version. Confident people do not repeat themselves.

#7446 5 years ago

For those of you still wanting an LE, the Pinballstore.com just announced they have some LE’s for sale. They have been sold out since the first day of release.

#7470 5 years ago

I completely agree with this. I have a mattress with a thick “comfort layer” on top. Got me so hot every summer I had to keep the A/C on 60! I’m serious. This dual temp product from sleep number is awesome!! They truly do cool like an a/c. and they heat in the winter. Now I keep the A/C at 70 in the summer at night and sleep very comfortable. Buy this.

#7473 5 years ago
Quoted from Who-Dey:

Get the mypillow premium and use their size chart so you know which one to buy.

I don’t know. I have a mypillow and it sucks. No one in the house likes to use it. And that guys’ commercials drive me crazy. They are on every 20 minutes, Get a new shirt Mike.

#7474 5 years ago
Quoted from bigd1979:

That sounds nice...

It is awesome my friend. I’ll never sleep without one again.

#7476 5 years ago
Quoted from 1956PINHEAD:

Geez, all this bedding and pillow talk is making me sleeply. I'm off to bed now

Better than code though lmao! Nice break.

#7478 5 years ago
Quoted from Who-Dey:

They are like anything else, some people love them and some people hate them. Even the Munsters can't get 100% love!

True dat! Well at this point, I’m with you Who-Dey. I’m waiting on my LE and hope to love it. Think I will. I’ll give them a chance to get to at least 1.0 code before I pass judgment on that. But I’m going to have 4 pins when I’m done and I’d like some variety in how deep they are (hell I’d get more I’m a total addict at this point but no more room!). Already built my game room and was just getting one pin. Little did I know I would just go crazy over it. Cleared a whole second room upstairs just to put in more pins.

#7482 5 years ago
Quoted from 1956PINHEAD:

Go for it GamerRick, six is a good number of Pins to have in one's home collection, just two more to go !
Congrats on your LE, post photos when it arrives

I thought you were going to bed! I definitely will. Lmao this was funny. Good night everybody.

#7539 5 years ago
Quoted from Amused_to_Death:

It looks like sh*t. I hope my LE doesn’t arrive this way. On the other hand, I think the black trim with gold legs looks like sh*t anyway. I can see myself replacing all of the mismatched black with gold to match the legs (and back box).

I don’t get it. The stock sales photos show a gloss sheen on the top of the side rails and lock down bar. Looks like a good match. How could the final product not match? I don’t mind the gold legs I think it’s a nice contrast with the red and black sides. However, if my lockdown bar and side rails don’t match for $9,000.00 they certainly better fix it. On my Deadpool LE, the lock bar had some grains painted to the top and which was annoying where you rested your hand. They replaced my lockdown bar no problem when I brought it up to my dealer. I always go through my dealer first for a problem.

#7549 5 years ago
Quoted from Amused_to_Death:

[quoted image]
Looks like flat black with krinkle finish to me. On the web, too.

They'll be making mine match, that's for sure!

Well you are right the closer up shots look like matte black, but they still match. I’ve been happy with stern’s quality control so far with my Deadpool LE. Not one problem out of the box except the lockdown bar which they immediately replaced. And that was just a paint issue. I’m assuming that must have been a fluke. I can’t see them shipping 600 units that don’t have matching trim.

Let’s get this straight. Casper is so superior to My Pillow it’s not even funny.
Don’t buy your pillows from a dude with a dyed mustache, people.

Mine arrived yesterday driver didn't call ahead and dropped it off at my front door, got it in the house when I got home but no unboxing yet. I got a call I might be getting my MBLE tomorrow unless then messed up and have 2 unboxing's.
[quoted image]

Majorly uncool the carrier delivered that with no advance scheduling and just left it! I’d be fuming! Let your distributor know that is total BS. So glad you got it inside safe.

Holy sh*t ive been away for two days and this thread goes from the Munsters code sucks to dimple gate "Munsters edition". Now i got a big f*ckin dimple in my forehead from going.......

Quoted from drfrightner:

I hate to say this but I got trashed on this forum for bringing up many of these points. I also got trashed for shedding a reality on Black Knight. I have a friend who just bought a Munsters LE for $6500.00 with only like 50 plays. People hate this game that much they're willing to lose that kind of money? I think most people bought Munsters LE sight unseen... they just knew they wanted that theme. I bought a Munsters LE sight unseen... so is it really only worth $6500 now? I see people here locally already trying to dump their Munsters Pro for only $4600... I'm like already?
The same will happen with Black Knight another very basic nothing new game but I see those LE being sold for even less than $6500.00. Beatles price was super low at MGC, brand new in the box. I guess they're learning outside of a handful of people where money is no object not many people want to pay $8000 for a $5000 game. There is nothing that original about Munsters, Black Knight and for god sakes Beatles is a direct copy of a 30 year old game.
I think what has happened, and this is just an observation there isn't much left you can do with a pinball game, before you play it and go "OH WAIT ISN'T THIS REALLY A RETREAD of another game'?
What else can be done?
Stern is the worst honestly, the only time you really see good on screen assets is when they're hand delivered on a silver platter (Iron Maiden, Batman 66).
I think pinball will need to take a new direction, and start to incorporate new idea's, and stop relying on people who've already designed 30 games. They need new eyeballs, new idea's, just a younger group of people to create pinball 5.0 or whatever you want to call it. Pinball needs to bring back video modes, introduce wifi, online gaming, and most importantly new features during game play that haven't yet been done.
Stern has become such a well oiled machine they're not even trying to think outside the box. Why should they really? If no other company puts the screws to them and people keep buying games SIGHT UNSEEN, only after the fact they don't find the game that much fun... STERN keeps winning.
I thought it was odd that Stern made this behind the scenes video of Munsters creation, that made me think oh wait this game isn't selling so lets drum up some interest. Nice video btw.
I think Stern should seriously consider making only 2 to 3 new games a year, put more RD into the games, look for new designers, put more work into the games, consider doing a wide body, adding new features... in other words slow down the process and work harder to make things seem original.
Just because you change the artwork on the playfield doesn't mean Beatles isn't Seawitch or Batman Dark Knight is Batman 66, or Munsters seems just like 2 or 3 other games we already have in our collection. Lastly, and to my main point, almost every Stern game releases where they must update the code in some cases 20 times. Jersey Jack comes out with code from the box that no one can even beat... why not just slow down here, take the time to release the game DONE the first time, rather than a process of seeing just how fast you can release a new game.
Just my observation. As buyers I think we need to stop getting suckered on LE games, and just have some patience to decide do we actually think the game is worth $9000.00. I think in most cases if you use patiences you'll realize later that if you really want the very weak Black Knight LE, you'll get one for about $6500 or less in about oh I don't know 4 months. Its worth waiting to save the money. The totally nothing original very basic Black Knight doesn't even deserve an LE if you ask me. That game should be Sterns $4500 line a price point they don't have currently but should consider.
On the flip side, if you're still waiting to buy a Pirates from JJP, well keep waiting because no one is selling. Pirates despite its flaws took at least two years to make, and those games in some cases are selling for MORE than they paid, while Munsters LE just sold for a $2500 loss.
Stern should SLOW DOWN get it right out of the box!
Again just my opinion. In the future I'm not buying anymore Stern games, unless I see them and play them first because Munsters at 9k don't love it, and now knowing its only worth $6500 three months after buying is not making me feel all warm inside.
With these types of nose dives on values of games so shortly after buying them, will change the market drastically for the games.
I'm not in LOVE with Wonka, I don't think its nearly as creative as WOZ, but at the same time name 5 pinball games ever created with as much cool things happening? There just isn't 5 games you can name with more cool things happening under the glass... oh wait you kind of can the four other games made by JJP, or just a small handful of older Williams Bally games. I'm not saying JJP is better than Stern, merely pointing out that when people buy an LE from JJP they don't rush out to flip it 3 months later. If you're going to sell a 9k version an amount of money, that can buy a BRAND NEW car, then you should be totally sold on buying that game to keep it.
Maybe Stern feels adding new features, doing something they haven't done before creates risks, but I'm okay with that take the risks and do something spectacular. Just my opinion.
As for my Munsters game, I will keep the game because selling it for $2500 loss is not an option. Just in the future I will not rush to buy an LE because of the theme, I will wait play the game, or maybe just wait for another person to take that plunge only to hit the bottom of the pool after a few weeks of ownership and buy then. Maybe.

Is there anything you like about pinball? Maybe it’s just not for you.
