How are you enjoying the JJP Pirates?
I'm leaning towards one after watching a few streams.
Pro's
Con's
The theme sucks.
You can wait and buy one MUCH cheaper next year. Like every other JJP game.
In fact, it appears they are shutting down POTC production and moving on at TPF IF Jack is telling the truth this time and will actually announce and ship a game this year. LOL
Wait for Wonka or Toy Story
Quoted from tonycip:Maybe there getting spoiled POTC has 6 wizard modes!!
Don't know enough aboot it, but I'm willing to bet all 6 of them are not wizard modes either
Term gets thrown out pretty easy these days.

How much you want to bet?
Quoted from Lamprey:How much you want to bet?
A fair amount
So they have a chart out for it yet somehwere?
Quoted from iceman44:You can put 30 wizard modes into DI ...
Yes except it only has 1.

Yeah, if you go to JJP's site there is a Rules Flow Chart under the POTC game.

Thanks. So if I'm reading this right, you have to complete the 5 things they call a wizard mode to get to "Break the Curse," which I assume is the actual Wizard mode? THey don;t have it listed with a name so is there no mode involved or you just get points for it?
Are the "chapters" within each color grouping modes?

Don't get all butt hurt for someone else putting out an "opinion" TCip
He got mine whether he wanted it or not. That's how it works around here
Jack keeps pissing in his own corn flakes. His lost sales aren't my problem.

Jack needs to pick a theme that’s of interest, it doesn’t have to be relevant or nostalgic just something people give a shit about, Johnny Depp and POTC are about 10 years too late and have both gone the way of the dodo!

There are 5 wizard modes (one per movie) and a Final Wizard mode. No matter what you want to call them, they are wizard modes. 6 wizard modes - Now pay up!!
I'm not sure I understand you question about not having a name. My understanding is that you play the 5 movie wizard modes and that qualifies you for the final wizard mode: "Break the Curse."

Might be true and everyone has their own opinion on what theme means to them but to Me what Eric and JJP did with POTC is at a level beyond any game that has come out or forecasted to be released. This game is that rare creation that you don't have to be sold on just one key element. (code, art, theme, layout, fun, toys, etc.) They nailed Every check box of a perfect pinball machine in my book. Love Munsters and it checks several boxes but not kidding myself some boxes were missed but others like art/theme carry the game. I wouldn't fanboy any OEM but this one is in a league all on its own. My Opinion.

Eric and Keith did a fantastic job with POTC, just like Lawlor did in some ways with DI.
I get why you guys like POTC, its just not gonna sell beyond a small niche group because of the theme. Simple as that. But if you like it, that's all that matters.
Quoted from iceman44:You can put 30 wizard modes into DI and POTC. And it won't increase sales on those GARBAGE themes.
Get it JJP? Hopefully so with Wonka and Toy Story.
+1.

I don't have a dog in this race, but I'm curious why you think the POTC theme only appeals to a niche group?
POTC is a pretty huge intellectual property in it's own right. I understand if it doesn't resonate with you on a personal level. But, it seems like it would have as broad of an appeal as any theme out there.
I can see not wanting to spend $8500 (Standard Edition) or more on a game. But, as themes go POTC seems like a solid choice to me.

I just can't get into POTC for some reason.... Maybe it's that flat shot straight up the middle into a dark abyss that loses me, or a lack of licensed voices and such, but it's sadly my least favorite JJP. What gets you jazzed about it?

I thought POTC did really well with sales, compared to Dialed In anyway. I saw a video where Jack stated it had as many preorders in a month's time, compared to Dialed In's first four months. Something to that extent. What do you feel is garbage about the theme? I'm not super hip about the phone aspects, but this non licensed theme reminds me far more of the 90's glory days of whimsical themes and ideas, than anything since.

The movies were AWFUL after the first one. If they did this after movie #1, like Stern did, it would have sold better. The JJP rollout was pathetic. So many lost sales by butchering the announcement and delayed shipping again.
Johnny Depp sucks. Which is why i initially bought into the initial CE excitement.
We are about to find out just how bad these last themes were in comparison to Toy Story and Wonka.
I predict JJP will have HUGE sales of those pins just based on theme alone. IF they don't F up the rollout again. Announce the game, have it on the line and ship the F er's.
Collect the $$$$ and ship, not that hard!

All those pre orders went down the toilet after all the delays, spinning disc, etc.
There is a group that will love POTC and DI for various reasons, i get it. JJP can't survive or compete with those numbers of sales on lesser themes.
The Woz trough is about empty.

It did when first announced but when it took forever to start producing it and they took away some features ... many backed out including myself

That is what I'm questioning
Quoted from Lamprey:No matter what you want to call them, they are wizard modes. 6 wizard modes - Now pay up!!
Well I don't know if they're Wizard modes, that's the whole point. I try to stay away from semantic discussions but sadly there's no way to avoid it here.
Let's say we're playing SW and each film is broken up into chapters, completing those chapters leads to a movie/planet MB, which seems to be the way (?) JPOTC works.
I'm just trying to figure out what makes them diff'rent from each other, because no one would call the planet MBs "wizard modes." But I'm not familiar with all the nuances of JPOTC.
Is CIQC a wizard mode in DI, is Armageddon? I wouldn't consider either of them to be either.
Just like I wouldn't consider completing all level 1 modes in Munsters (hey Munsters talk!!!) and the ensuing fan fair to be a wizard mode.
Quoted from Lamprey:My understanding is that you play the 5 movie wizard modes and that qualifies you for the final wizard mode: "Break the Curse."
Right, so my first thought is the wizard mode is "Break the curse."

You guys brought it up. We are just passing time until we get ours!
And commenting on how Munsters will sell 5x what Potc does, so that's how its relevant.

Gary you are not worthy of owning the WOZ. Sell it quickly.
I own a JJP POTC and I have a Munsters LE on order. I played Munsters pro and Premium and I can tell you they are NOT in the same league as POTC. POTC is in my opinion the best pinball machine ever made! Munsters is so bad it is a joke compared to it. Munsters is beautiful and has some awesome feeling ramps but that is about it.
I hope we will all end up being happy with our Munsters but if you are considering to get one or the other get a POTC no question.

And I will lay you a wager that POTC just like ALL of the JJP pins will continue to be produced for Years to come! If you can get past your man crush on Johnny (jk) and see it as pinball you won't find a better more complete game. When is my Munsters coming now, I seen Borg sign my plate they have to be done by now.......
As much as I think Stern has done a great job with Munsters (the artwork alone is fantastic), I would love to see JJP do a horror based pinball fully packed with cool stuff.
Munsters is a fun, but it is not the machine for someone who likes JJP depth. It may be I have had a private lesson on the rules by Eric, or it may be the machine is just deep, or it may be that it is just fun to play, but what I have found out about POTC, once you understand Eric’s mindset on the rules... The only flaw is its price.

Cigarette man cannot be trusted
Have you not seen X-Files?
I’m not sure what the point of comparing two totally different games is supposed to accomplish.
Code + playfield must work in tandem to create a great game. It can be simple
or deep...those terms in a vacuum don’t mean anything. Iron Man & Tron are super simple but extremely fun and addictive. The playfield/theme/rules all work together. TSPP, LOTR are very deep but also work due to the design/theme integration/rules. I haven’t played Munsters yet, so I can’t say if its simplicity is IM/Tron fun or a bust...but I feel like a lot of people are critiquing based on terms without context & without playing to see if it all works in a cohesive & fun way.

That was the case when Stern released POTC along with the 2nd movie. It was a phenomenon and people loved Depp’s character. The movies now are a joke and people have more negative feelings about them (and Depp) than positive.
Quoted from Bublehead:The only flaw is its price.
Yes and no, JJP has quality and you can see where the money has been spent, while Stern gets cheaper and cheaper every year - $terns prices keep Rising and Rising!
I hope Wonka will be a home run too.
Quoted from Squizz:- $terns prices keep Rising and Rising!
JJP also raises their prices every game to be fair.

This is largely my issue with what little I know of Stern production as well. I think API hit a nice sweet spot between Stern and JJP regarding cost and quality, and I also appreciate their lack of the LE/Collector's model, which drives up price in ways that feels more predatory than value oriented to the customer. I know that crap tactic from seeing the last decade of video games transform from standard pricing, to tacking on extras for double or trip a game's standard price.
The Munsters Pro, with it's fairly barebones under the playfield design, looks like a great pickup for maybe $5k or less. I'd jump immediately at that. But the Premium and CE seem, (obviously from no first hand experience here) more akin to the $7-8k pricing structure. That said, I really wish JJP would lower by a grand or so, anything above $8k really makes buying more than one pin a year, near impossible, for me anyway.

Ask yourself why Stern outsells JJP x 5
Some like DI and POTC. Most don’t.
As for “quality”, it depends on how you define it.
All I read about are problems out of the box
And one big route operator says his JJP pins were blown out at 12k plays. Sterns were rocking along at 25k
When I buy Wonka it won’t be because of “quality”, it’s theme and yes code depth. Which I like!
I hope they turn the corner

Just questioning, your feedback and production assessment of Stern/JJP is based on your (1) Houdini purchase? Not sure that is a fair assessment of what the other manufacturers do. Also regarding the model based system. While different, API simply uses the add to cart system (Add++side art, power supply, shaker, EOS flipper kit, invisiglass, knocker, etc etc) which is basically the same as buying a Stern Pro or JJP standard no? Same flavor just a different shopping method in my opinion.
Quoted from Yelobird:While different, API simply uses the add to cart system...Same flavor just a different shopping method in my opinion.
Depends...Whats the base price and what does it get you?
When you are paying for all that “quality” up front NIB it damn sure doesn’t translate when you go to sell a JJP pin
All of a sudden the “quality” ain’t so enticing is it
Now most $8k plus NIBs will take their beating for the most part..... Stern included, except for that low quality POS garbage box of lights called BM66
Hmmm, how did that one start out day one?
People were squealing like a bunch of stuck pigs
Quoted from TheLaw:Depends...Whats the base price and what does it get you?
Fair question. I guess that depends on what the buyer feels they need in a base model.
