Just picked up an original Galaga on craigslist for $50. Monitor works, isn't too burned in but needs to be re-capped (slightly wavy and slightly shrunken picture). Cabinet has seen better days, many dings and the side art has been painted over (you can see the outline of the Galaga decal on the side). Joystick is very loose but functional.
The game started up a couple times but could not get through a game. Started tearing into the boards but discovered it has a bootleg Galaga board installed! No wonder the original harness was all hacked up! Not sure a bootleg Galaga board is worth saving as I cannot find schematics anywhere and it is quite different than the real Galaga board.
With the help of a fellow Pinsider, I decided to order the Phoenix Arcade board, Jamma harness and a new control panel to make a multicade. Undecided if I will strip and restore this cabinet to its prior glory or take the monitor, coin door and marquee to a new cabinet. For now, I just want to get it playing to see if the family and friends actually play it. If they do, I will continue the restoration.
