I’m in the midst of moving the out-lane posts on my IMDN (don’t shame me). I’ve moved many of these before without issue.

The posts on IMDN appear to be threaded, and while the other holes in the playfield have been drilled, it does not appear they are threaded, which means it will take a bit of force to screw it in.

The problem is, I don’t seem to have a nut driver that has enough clearance internally to allow the post to insert far enough to get to the nut. I can use a wrench (tedious), but since the hole isn’t threaded, I can’t apply enough downward force. I may end up having to find a screw of the same size and thread to drill in, remove, and then use a wrench to get the post in.

I feel like I’m missing the right tool for this.

Suggestions?

A deep well socket

Quoted from titanpenguin:

A deep well socket

Is that a thing? I’ll go look at Home Depot.

Titan pinball sells special deep drivers specifically for this

You need a deep socket or a hollow shaft nut driver.

Hollow shaft

Thanks all. I wasn’t able to find deep well sockets on amazon, but the hollow shaft drivers came right up. I didn’t know they existed. Ordered.

Do you have one of those "4-in-1" "6-in-1" or "modular / reversible shaft" screwdrivers? If so you may already have the right post reomval tool without realizing it.

Most of those screwdrivers are designed so that if you remove the driver bit, the shaft will clear the full post and seat on the hex base. Some of those screwdrivers go further in that the main shaft is sized differently on either end, so give it a flip if the first one doesn't work.

Way handier than fumbling with ratchets and sockets, and those screwdrivers are cheaper and more versatile than a dedicated tool.
