Wanted to make a thread for Motordome playing field questions.

Does anyone know if this screw by the upper right flipper bat on Motordome is stock or a hack? I can only imagine it was to keep the flipper bat from pushing against the rail, but that doesn’t make too much sense, right? Any thoughts? Anyone have a photo of this area on their Motordome?

Haha, thank you. Is there a proper way to repair it? I’m not at the point of learning about paint, but maybe short of that? Remove it and fill it somehow?

Also, my right slingshot solenoid isn’t firing.

Right slingshot solenoid (no, the wires aren’t resting on the metal - plenty of clearance )

I found some cut wiring underneath the playing field, between the right slingshot and upper flipper solenoids. I haven’t utilized the voltage reader yet, but is there a reason for this grey and white wire being cut? I see some other laughable wiring jobs that need permanence, but I’d rather get everything working properly before soldering into place. Game menu says slingshots are on (on off option is for both slingshots, not individual ones). Thank you.

Look in the manual and figure out what that color wire goes to

You can test that coil by grounding the tab with the Non-Banded side of the diode

I am restoring a Motordome right now. I think that screw is there to keep the ball from getting stuck there. The machine I am working on does not have the metal ball guide by that flipper so I had to add a post to keep the ball from getting stuck under the flipper.

Do you have a photo of your work, including the upper right flipper post? I’ll take any and all info you have on your work

I did a little tracing of my cut white with black line/streak/stripe and it looks like it’s possibly related to my center blue visor lights and right lightning bolt lights. Both sets of lights have not worked since getting the machine. The bulbs don’t appear to be burnt out (visor bulbs removed in the photos). There is funky wiring where the cut was made, so I really need to dive deeper. Any Motordome wiring photos near the center lights and right upper flipper would be very much appreciated

What is this bulb socket for? To light the cabinet? There's nothing on the topside of the playing field.

Must have got too hot and charred the wood. Think that could have caused someone to cut that white and black wire if they’re related (colors correlate, but need to dive in and really trace it).

Edit: Stumbled upon a post by Vid referencing adhesive copper foil as a power conductor for replacing Bally light sockets. Can you use that adhesive copper foil for rewiring 555's, or is it just for 44's? They offer tinned copper tape - any reason to use or not use that? Thinking about a full LED conversion and not sure what sockets I should use (stick with 555s and repair as needed, or upgrade to 44s).

The 12v automotive flasher bulbs used on this game were troublesome. As you have discovered they ran too hot and burned the wood. As shown, on my game they were rewired to the switched lamp bus and replaced with 555s. I have removed that and restored the 43v flasher circuit using three 12v #89 style Blue LEDs in series. I'll post pics when I get a chance.

This is great, thank you for sharing. If you also have photos of adding the second fuse to the underside of the playfield, per the Bally bulletin, I’d love to see those, too

Here is the after rebuild of the flashers using 3x #89 blue 12v LED lamps in series. LEDs draw a fraction of the current so no need to install a separate fuse and the low heat of the LED lamps will not burn the playfield. Note, where there was only room for 2 lamps I added a 3rd off to the side as a load lamp rather than try and install a resistor. This renews the integrity of the original 43v wiring while minimizing the stress.

Wow! Looks very clean and well done

So your two extra bayonets have bulbs in them to add to the two lightning bolt flashers?

I really appreciate your photos and explaining what you did. The more details and photos the better!

On a random side note, CPR did release a plastics set for this game, in case you need that missing U

Took the backboard plastic off to swap in a NOS one. I’ll do the 3 back flasher lights at the same time, in case having the plastic off makes it easier. Your advice is a huge relief, as getting back to stock and meeting the bulletin guidance has been a goal.

Found another bulb that I’m curious about.

Do you know what bulb was stock for this spot? Or what a good LED replacement would be?

#14 1 year ago

Removed the resistor and redid the line with the new bulbs as you recommended. Repositioned one of the sockets so the lighting would be even, then swapped out the back plastic (probably a record for the number of screws holding it in place (11)). Looking forward to seeing the board flashing

Here is my 43V flasher lines redone, as Al recommended. Got things in there pretty tight. The third blue bulb is offset so it looks like an extension of the rider’s nose and not a third eye - like Night Rider. Should look good when lit up.

Huge THANK YOU to you, Al. What a relief to have these lines fixed. Great idea and love the results

Doing some more Motordome playfield restoring, trying to reference correct machines to make sure mine matches stock. Added some Comet OpMax bulbs (does anyone else’s get warm?).

Does anyone know if there is supposed to be a diode on the lighting by the upper left flipper? I thought all GI was free of diodes. Does anyone have a photo of their lamp underneath the upper left flipper plastic?

Thank you

Thanks to BigAl56 Motordome’s playfield is now wired correctly and everything is working except a couple lamps and the right slingshot due to minor PCB repairs needed. Did several playfield repairs and polished all the metal components by hand. Looking good with Comet OpMax bulbs (sunlight) and Titan yellow and orange rubbers. Always enjoy toddtuckey TNT Amusement videos, so naturally did the red fire bulb for the upper left exhaust and a color changer under the right ramp… for the kids

I was working on a motordome for a friend. While replacing the motherboard with new due to acid damage, the connector J10 lower corner chipped off so the first pin is not securely making a good contact. I believe it is a 19 pin connector, I did not notice the part number in the manual, any help would be greatly appreciated.

On a second issue, in attract mode, all the lights work, however in game mode, the lights for the pop bumpers go out. Are they supposed to??? The cap on them says 1000 points when lit and 3000 when blinking. Looking at youtube, I would guess they should be lit all the time?? Looking under the playfield, it looks like there are small green disc compacitors are cut/broken on each pop bumper switch area. Are they supposed to be connected and that is the light issue? Are these the .05 MP capacitors listed in the wiring manual??

Thank you,

Thank you,

The lamps on the pops can be off (0 points), lit (1,000 points), or flashing (3,000 points). They can be activated by the roll-over switches. There’s a target element for the flashing, or I believe a second rollover causes it. The points can be multiplied 2x or 3x in level 2 or 3 respectively.

Here are some photos of one of my pop’s underside, which is working correctly:

If you PM me your email, I’ll send you a video of my pops working during play.

Oh interesting, I did not know they could be out during game play. Will have to see what rollover starts to lights to confirm they work correctly. Per your 3rd photos, I think my friends has the one small cap cut/broken off. His has a green disc (assume it is the .04mf cap???) Will replace them as needed. I will PM you for the video thank you!!!
