I didn't want to use the word "shallow".

Curious what is everybody's favorite easy-to-understand modern game - I guess by short I mean one that is a "pick up and play", fast game with maybe not the super depth of something like LOTR or TH/WOZ or DI.

#2 2 years ago

Tron for sure. Very easy to understand for the most part.

Scared Stiff - Not very deep but a blast to play!

#5 2 years ago

Another vote for Fish Tales and I would add Spiderman.

AFM--shoot for the big thing in the middle. Can't get much simpler than that for new players

#10 2 years ago

Think we might need a definition of Modern

BSD is one of the best shallow games that I can think of. Great for tournaments (disable the right in lane switch) and easy for the casual player to understand. Not to mention a free chance and MB if you don't get it on ball 1 or 2.

Most fun? Scared Stiff.

Second most fun? Monster Bash.

Fun? Certainly. Non-deep? I disagree. It's deep enough when you're trying to RTU.

Pedantic!! I think everybody got what I meant - DMD-era games for the most part. I'm concerned about being heavy on the very deep games which aren't too satisfying for a new player

Awesome suggestions, too - I wouldn't have thought of a lot of these. I will submit The Getaway, which has really hooked me

Don't think anything can beat MM...

Which is why I posted that after Dr Dude was mentioned

Yeah, I was going for more fun & easy-to-understand than how deep it was.

Whirlwind has gotta be in there ... agree on BSD!

#22 2 years ago

early 80's Sterns like Stars, Meteor, Dracula...

#23 2 years ago

Totan! For the win.

#24 2 years ago

And we're officially off the rails after that...

I told ya

#25 2 years ago

I always have a good time with T2.

LOL, called it.

Sounds like FT would be my best value

#27 2 years ago

Gilligans island, super easy rules, but what a blast to play!

#28 2 years ago

Iron Man. One rare, but really well played ball can run the table.

FT is a great game for sure. Some people are annoyed by the music but never bothered me. If you get too good at it you can put lightening flippers on it for more of a challange. There were a lot of them made too so not too hard to find.

#30 2 years ago

FT is supposed to have lightning flippers on it!

I like TRON and Ironman.

It was not designed with them, that was not the designers intent, nor does he have them on his personal machine.
But we'll have to keep having this discussion.

Elvira and the party monsters for me, not deep but fun.

#36 2 years ago

Beautiful slap stick humor fun: Monster Bash

Brutal play fun: Bram Stoker's Dracula

Adrenalin high speed rush fun: No Fear

#37 2 years ago

Williams El Toro is not very deep, but it will kick your ass.

#38 2 years ago

another vote for BSD

That's a great one. Super fun, super straight forward.

I'm playing 3 games right now that I think really embody this:
Jurassic Park
Mousin' Around
No Good Gofers

#41 2 years ago

Tron.

No question...

Fire it up and let it rip!

#42 2 years ago

Surprised no one has popped in with TAXI. Killer game!

#43 2 years ago

Give it like 6 hours Wasp and you know you'll have it up for trade lol

#45 2 years ago

Iron Man and BSD for me

#46 2 years ago

NASCAR. I hate actual NASCAR but the pin is fast paced and the whip around racetrack feature is awesome. Just a fun game.

#47 2 years ago

Stern Stars is not very deep, but it will take all the quarters you want to feed it.

#48 2 years ago

Creature From The Black Lagoon

#49 2 years ago

TRON
WCS
IM

And get ready for it....

BBH! Nothing more satisfying than hitting that buck and hearing shotgun blasts on an external sub.

I'm by no means a new player, but I am new to modern pinball. I'd say Spider-Man Home Edition is a lot of fun without the headache of deep rules.
