Is there supposed to be a distinct sound that plays when player 2 is added?
Is there a test button on the sound board to cycle through the sounds on the board?

You mentioned that it does this with the sound card disconnected. Is there are DIP setting or jumper to disable sounds? I wonder if something in the data lines for the sound card is interfering and causing the reset
