This would imply the new code is not coming anytime soon

Quoted from Pincrazy:

or that pic was taken a while ago......

#4 7 years ago

Maybe. We don't know when that pic was taken.
Further; it's not like it's hard to come up with the files for the ROMs. Off the shelf software and a simple mic on a pc is all that's really need to capture voice work.

It looks like that was done in his office at Stern.

#5 7 years ago

Agreed. The voice work from Steve is the least important thing, and the easiest to add.

#6 7 years ago

I suspect as well that Admiral Stevens call outs are there to pad out any missing holes that have come from their testing and rule tweaks. This is probably the last step.

#7 7 years ago

can anyone screen capture and zoom in on steve's watch?

possible time and date on that watch would be great, yeaaah

#8 7 years ago

Hmmmmm, I'm torn. Part of me is happy to see Stern posting updates about the new code. But I'm also a bit worried that if they are still recording, the update may not be coming soon. Oh well, my guess is still September 15.

You nailed it. Karl Urban's speech was recorded months ago....and they may have made a few changes in the code that they didn't account for when Karl recorded it.

That's encouraging to hear.

Yup, that was my first thought too, I see it as a positive. I had originally heard this week as a possible date, but lately was starting to doubt it. I don't expect it tomorrow at this point.

But adding in some speech callouts in spots is simple, and if there were placeholders there already wouldn't entail any testing or anything really.

I want the code as much as anyone, but I'd rather it was right than rushed. More custom callouts from The King? Yes please! This game really can't have enough custom audio honestly, the movie sound clips are the parts I'm tired of the most in some ways.

#13 7 years ago

This is great news. Shows me they're hard at work toget it right! They could have very well just took Karl Urbans speech back and spammed our ears to death with a half ass update. Nope, Steve is focused on holding his title as the king. Watch out, this update may blow minds!

#14 7 years ago

I wonder if he'll add "I am Shao Kahn, bow to me!"

That's my birthday !

#16 7 years ago

Well, I hope its tomorrow and am sick of waiting. I would have rather had a couple of minor updates along the way than waiting 8 months for this major one.

I guess I may wait 6-8 months to buy the next stern when code is complete

Mine also

Why is he hiding behind a lamp? "Green Lantern" is Stern's next pin maybe?

What's the comic page behind his head?

I think that's a parobolic microphone to make the capture higher quality / reduce background noise.
But - I'm about as far from an Audiophile as... nevermind.

I should have let it go longer with people clamoring about the next Stern, but actually I have no idea what it is, nor I really want to hear 100 theories and speculations of what it is and how it is a hint of the next Stern.

Close. Parabolic microphones are for amplifying sound from a distance, and have a different shape (more like a bowl with the mic at the center). That's just a microphone screen, like this one:

http://www.thomann.de/gb/the_tbone_micscreen.htm

It reduces room reflections and ambient noise, so perfect for grabbing some voice calls outside of an isolated studio booth.

#25 7 years ago

Really love the AC/DC speech that Steve did. Hoping its has more of the same with the taunting, motivating and instructing the player what to do etc. . .

Can't wait for this CODE DROP!

Good idea. The wouldn't want to pick up Gary talking in the background about "more wires than Ford Taurus"!

Lots of updates have happened right before PAPA. That's probably why you heard this week.

Speaking of PAPA, has anyone checked to see if the ST in A division at PAPA has new software? I see at least one Stern employee is in attendance.

#28 7 years ago

Looks like quite a bit of dialog printed on those "pages". I agree with Frolic. The king has been playing the game with Urban callouts, and has probably found "holes" where it needed just a little bit more added into it. I'm fine with waiting on the update. You just know Steve is FOCUSED on ST right now. Should be great.

#29 7 years ago

We wanted more communication from Stern about software, they are giving it to us. It may not be an itemized list of what is in the update, or the expected release date, but a few updates that things are coming is a lot better than what we used to get (nothing). Thanks, Jody (I know you lurk here). .

Ok Guys its here! the new code 1.5 for all Startrek Editions

Hello Pinball Fans,

We are pleased to release a comprehensive programming update for Star Trek!

The complete list of changes and additions is forthcoming, but we’ll point out some of the highlights here:

More than 150 Karl Urban (“Bones”) custom speech calls are now installed, along with a healthy dose of new Klingon speech, more Admiral Stevens speech, more Computer Voice, and additional lines from the most recent Star Trek movies. All speech and speech placement has been polished and enhanced. There are now more than 1,200 phrases used in the game, ranging from “Star Fleet Serious” to “Bones-Style” sarcasm!

We have added a feature called “Galactic Away Team” to each of the Tier I Missions. Shooting the ball behind the upper right flipper after 3 Mission shots activates an added scoring objective for each of the 6 Tier 1 Missions. Timers are extended and bigger point opportunities are there for the taking. The LE/Premium gets appropriately colored lighting effects to mark each Galactic Away Team goal where possible.

LE and Premium color-changing LED lighting effects have been enhanced. It’s a beautiful thing.

The Warp Ramp now offers much more fun, excitement, and rewards. Sequential shots now score 250K, 500K, 1M, 1M, 1M, etc., so shooting the Warp Ramp can be very lucrative for those who can repeat the shot. In addition: Warp 4-8 (depending on difficulty settings) lights Extra Ball as before, Warp 9.1 awards Double Scoring, and Warp 9.9 awards Add-a-Ball Multiball with Double Scoring.

Klingon Multiball now has a dramatic “Blackout” laser start-up sequence that is powerful, exciting, and lets the world around you know you’ve scored big. New Klingon speech, scoring and Jackpots, Super Jackpots, and Double Jackpots pay out bigger points and excitement.

New software that corrects earlier issues with optical switch timing and the magnet under the Vengeance has been implemented.

You asked for it. We bring it. On the Star Trek Pro, the completed Shields targets now awards “Rescue”. When the T of the T-R-E-K lanes is blinking in a unique pattern, a ball draining out the left lane will be “Rescued” and replaced with a ball immediately launched into play. It’s a life saver.

The Second Vengeance Battle remains a dangerous 5-shot Hurry Up, but if you make all 5 shots, you will be instantly awarded an Extra Ball.

“Drilling Down” a Mission through Tiers I, II, and III now awards “3 in a row” with new dots, and, the appropriate shot awards Double Score for the remainder of the game in all Missions and Wizard Modes. Strategies for winning have changed.

We’ve added Warp Ramp Champ. Carol Marcus is back. The Gorn speaks.

The whole Match Sequence has been overhauled with speech and more elegant presentations.

Unique Combos are named after Bridge Officers and award bigger points.

The ball saver timer for Kobiyashi Maru has been extended.

The Star Trek theme song now plays during 5 Year Mission.

All Missions are easier to start.

New dots have been added, and they are crisp and fast. Additional dots and speech notifications have been added that inform the player what the current objectives are, as well as score notifications from completed objectives.

We hope you will enjoy the new code. Thanks for your continued support.

Live Long and Prosper!
