Went to check out this Funhouse on CL a week or so ago: cnj.craigslist.org link

The seller claims it to be in excellent shape and working well. Let me tell you. It was horrible. Displays didn't work, it would blow his circuit breaker sometimes when he turned it on, there was a short in the coin door that caused it to reset like crazy, it was missing light shields, nearly every insert was raised, mylar bubbling, plunger broken, paint worn down to the wood near high wear areas, it was a disaster. He was asking $4,000 and told me that restored, they go for $6-10k. Ha! I offered him $1,200 (which in hindsight was still too high) and he vehemently refused. Oh well. Still on CL 22 days later. I wonder why...

    Quoted from jmountjoy111:

I offer nice words and some advice and bid them farewell.

I started this route. He was actually a really really nice guy. We chatted about the game, how much he and his kids love it, and how much we as enthusiasts respect and love it, and I had a very nice conversation telling him that this game isn't worth as much as he thought it was. He told me that he was trying to scare off the lowballers (understandable), and that he was willing to negotiate. I tried to explain to him the process of a restoration, and how much work it'll take to bring this game up to even an average players game, and he seemed totally cool. I offered what I thought was a more than fair deal, and he broke down and refused. He said he had other buyers lined up to pay "much more" than that. I bid him a very pleasant farewell, and I left. I was more mad that I had to drive 1.5 hours on the traffic laden NJ Turnpike to get to the guys place than anything else.

My takeaway, it was negotiation practice for me.

New game: take a drink every time the word "invention" shows up in the listing.

Not a Craigslist laugh, but definitely a laugh. Listen to the guy's appraisal for this "Star Explorer" pinball machine.

Here’s a laugh on letgo. I contacted the seller, and she said she wouldn’t go lower than $2,500–as she *apprently* had an offer for that amount for the game 10 years ago.... also, that’s the only picture of the game.

    Quoted from gdonovan:

I don't even bother with Letgo after posting a few pins there.. as one other pinsider opined, I think it is trafficed by crackheads and tweakers which sums up my experience..

It's definitely good for some things, and not for others. I've bought some really fantastic pinball deals on letgo, but I'd never use it to sell one.

Here's a delight. Non negotiable, he says. Very desirable, he claims. Ok.

At least he has a certificate of authenticity that he registered the serial number! Everyone knows that adds at least $1K to the price tag.

One more! For the price, you'd think it'd come with flipper rubber.

Damn!! Missed that... I'll see my way out now

    Quoted from VDrums2112:

This is probably $15 worth of diodes

I've discovered the wonders of buying diodes and other components from ebay, where you can get a pile of 50 of them for literally $1 with free shipping. It takes a month to arrive from china, but the cost can't be beat. I'd offer him $10, and I'd still feel like I'm grossly overpaying!

Here’s a good “Letgo” laugh. The description is the same as the title.
