"Serious Buyer looking to Purchase a Jurassic Park Data East or Stern Pro Pinball Machine. Willing to put $1,000 down then pay $100 a month over 4 years. Willing to provide paperwork and sign an agreement (no layaway). Only interested if the Pin Playing Field shows NO damage and everything is Like New. Game will need to be Played and Examined before Purchase. Mods are Welcomed but not necessary."
There are no words.... WHO WOULD AGREE TO THAT?

Anyone who bought snap-on tools ?

    #8452 3 months ago

“Serious buyer”… that’s the best part IMO

    #8453 89 days ago

Or his 3rd baby mama hits him up with a court order for more child support. All of a sudden, pinball takes a back seat.

    #8454 89 days ago

    It’s not a dumb buyer- it’s a con.

    #8455 89 days ago

    Looks legit to me...

    Quoted from SimpleSam:

How about one payment of $5,800? Because I'm not willing to sell any of my pinballs for $1,000 and a worthless promise.

Yeah, at least lie that it'll be 6 years, for $2400 profit that you won't pay either!

Old solid state stereo, big cabinet, low fidelity....who in the world wants this stuff anymore?

I had a late 60's Zenith TV in a wood cabinet in rough shape. I gave it to a collector. People collect anything.

    #8459 79 days ago

Would make a nice fish tank stand, with storage or room for a wet dry sump and protein skimmer underneath.

If it is sturdy enough, it might make a nice stand for a few slot machines. But it’s not worth anything IMHO.

I think it’s funny that nobody wants DLP televisions. Some of them are 1080 and have a nice picture. I know because I own one, have for 16 years now and replace the bulb every few years, and it just keeps going.

    #8461 78 days ago

Those big console stereos are cool. My parents have one that has been in their living room since before I can remember.
I would get one if I had another living room to put it in.
Would NOT trade a pin for one though. People seem to basically give those away.

    #8462 78 days ago

Well, at least it's a solid state; I hear the electro-mechanical ones are a nightmare to maintain...

    #8463 78 days ago

Now I'd need a console like this if I was trading a pin for one.

    Quoted from Scotty_K:

    Well, at least it's a solid state;

If it was a tube amp, I would be inclined to pick it up just for the amp....and discard the rest of the console. But a solid state amp? Nah.

    Black Hole in NJ.

    Seems a little pricy...

    ebay.com link: itm

Many of the playfield photos are blurry. I sent a private message asking to see under the playfield and inside the head. Seller responded that he has a deposit in hand and machine was on a pallet awaiting pickup.

    Screen Shot 2023-01-22 at 5.17.17 PM (resized).png

EDIT: This is weird. There was another one by a different seller for $6,495 and I sent a similar message about seeing the insides. This seller too stated that there was a sale pending. So then I assume anyone clicking "Buy it Now" & paying would get their auction contract breached out?

The $6.5K BH was marked as sold right after my message and the location for the item changed to Quebec from NY. No idea how that's even possible.

    Screen Shot 2023-01-22 at 6.30.10 PM (resized).pngScreen Shot 2023-01-22 at 6.29.56 PM (resized).png

They both seem to be priced kinda high, and only after I ask for more photos, they both have a pending sale?

They might actually have 7g in that game without labor for decals and playfield swap. Not saying it is worth 12 by any stretch but if this were a HEP, well you pay for the labor.

    Quoted from BallyKISS1978:

I don't know the typical rates but I would pay $20/hr to swap and probably $35/hr for a decal job (us labor stats put vinyl car wrap guys at $22 to $32 per hour).

I'd expect a swap to run $600 to $800 and the decals to run $350 to $600 at those max rates.

So he may have about $8400 tied up in that game (assuming no other nos parts purchased)... but can easily see how he may even have $12,000 into it with labor along with new(ish) parts in the mix.

I’m not in the business of doing restoration, but there is no chance I’d do these for those rates. $20/hr for a playfield swap? Absolutely no chance.

I was approached by a few people about doing swaps after I did Flash Gordon.

To my satisfaction, it would well over $1000 just in labor. Easily I could spend over a week doing a swap, cleaning & polishing everything, wiring repairs, rebuilding mechs and tweaking and playtesting.

$20 an hour is insanity for a playfield swap. Way more complicated than decal work, so not sure why you think you would pay 75% more for that. I don’t know anyone around here would approach a swap for anything less than $50-$75 an hour. All local pin techs charge $75 an hour here. It’s skilled labor. Also what is the point of doing a swap if you aren’t going to rebuild all the mechs in the process and swap bulb sockets or switch to yoppsicles? I’ve done it before. Very labor intensive.

Very labor intensive and the markings on the underside of the playfield are often just "suggestions" which add considerable time in test fitment.

Yep! I don't know of any skilled technical professionals that charge less than that. HVAC, plumbing, electrician, automotive, heavy machinery, nail & hair salons, paralegal, physical therapy, dog training, etc., etc. all charge more. Even certain unskilled labor is in the $25-$50 range.

    Quoted from porkcarrot:

At that price, I'd be suspicious of the quality and experience.

Contrast and compare to those who sometimes struggle to recoup their costs, never mind all the labor, when restoring older games!

Goes to show what a wide spectrum comprises our hobby.

I’ll do a straight up PF Swap for 1000. I’ll everything to the new PF and clean what I can as I go. I’ll replace whatever parts you provide for me to replace. Any parts I have to have are extra.

On repro PFs you had better make sure it is going to fit or work before you drill a hole or sink a screw because the dimples are rarely in the right place. I did a Cactus Canyon swap using a CCr PF into an old game and none of the dimples mattered, I just centered everything and put it where it should be comparing to the old PF and function. Everything came out fine and it looks great.

I was only valuing this particular guy or gal's time to remove and replace and what he could get back. Of course the depth could go much greater, which is beyond just swapping things out and into the realm of overhaul and restoration.

My point was not to give an accurate reflection of what someone would charge or be willing to pay for these services; but, that this guy with a Corvette, new playfield, and proper decal job could have (upwards of) what he was asking into the machine.

Not a Craigslist ad, but it’s on listed on here

    Spirit of 76 Immaculate condition.

I purchased this game over three years ago and made this my full-time project. Everything is either new or restored and is now better than factory condition.

I just got a laugh that it is “immaculate” with a a nail sticking out the back of the head with a key on it, and a slightly wonky paint job.

    That's a key hook mod.

I think I will start to sell them in my store for $15 shipped anywhere in the continental USA ($30 Hawaii, Alaska, and international), hammer not included.

Yeah, sent something to Pinside mods. Irony is he picked the wrong platform for his “game” - no one from Pinside would fall for this. FB, EBay, CL - that’s another story.
