Where is the amplifier for sound and speech on BK?

#2 11 years ago

I keep reading the repair guides, and then I get to the point where they say the problem could be with the amplifier.

#4 11 years ago
Quoted from stangbat:

There are two chips with heatsinks on them on the sound board. The amp is the one towards the top of the board with the heatsink that is perpendicular to the board. The voltage regulator is the one that is flush against the board on the right side.

So the amp is just under 10j2, the speaker wire connector?

HEY!!!! After wiggling the amp the sounds started working. I see the chip with 5 pins soldered to the board. The heatsink does wiggle however. The corners of the heatsink appear to go to 2 solder points on the board, but are not soldered to these points. Is this correct?

After playing pin for a few days, with the sound and speech always working at first, and then not working after playing a few games, I was 100% sure that all I had to do was resolder the 5 pins on the amp. Finally got around to pulling the board, and desoldering, and resoldering the amp. After that it didn't work at all. Ordered a new TDA2003A, and installed it today, and still nothing. Any suggestions, other than I should've just let it be in the first place?

Quoted from markmon:

You likely damaged a trace while messing with the soldering.

Although relatively new at board soldering, am "fairly confident" I didn't ruin anything. Tested for continuity between the 5 pins on the amp, to the next point the trace went to on the board.

Quoted from markmon:

I'd pull one of your matching working boards

BK is only system 7 I own. Not sure if sys 9 are the same. Own all 3 sys 9's.

No Sys 9 is different.

Rechecked voltage at TP's and caps all good. Volume pot and speaker good. No sounds yet when pushing test button, or grounding pins on 10 J3. Rechecked continuity on 5 amp legs to next trace point on board. I hear hum so amp is working....What next?

Sent Rob Anthony an email asking for help, or seeing if he'll check boards.
