I've read that the Montana spray caps do not fit Rustoleum paint. Has anyone tried these?

Ok - So hip us to what a Montana spray cap is ? Is it the plastic trigger you snap on to the can to turn it into a spray gun ?

Tenacious, I think he's referring to the Montana Spray Caps that allow you to spray in different line thicknesses. I've personally never used them, so I can't attest to how well they work, or don't work, with Rustoleum paint.

They are incompatible... Rustoleum "female" cap, Montana "male" cap.

They are replacement caps that offer different spray patterns.

    yes

Have quite a variety. They have one that has a tube attached that will actually do a nice speckle job

The reason I asked is I'm not happy with rattle can quality for a base color on a cabinet. Now looking for a quality spray paint gun that I can use latex paint from a quart.
The Wagner guns seem to all have negative reviews when it comes to latex. The Rustoleum out of the spray can does not leave a uniform finish.

If you're going to shoot latex I'd thin it and spray with a HVLP gun. That means you need a compressor though.

If you want to use Montana caps why not just use Montana paint though?

Too late. Already have base coat of Rustoleum on there. I'm not crazy about mixing products. I was thinking about an electric spray gun. I only have a 6 gallon compressor for small jobs.

Try Montana or Molotow paint, doesn't take long to sand what you have off.

Shoot the entire thing with polycrylic after all painting is done and you'll have a uniform finish.

I used Rustoleum on my latest restore and I'll never use it again. Montana is just superior paint.

Polycrylic satin out of a rattle can, or HVLP?

Satin or semi gloss from a rattle can. Works great.

    #16 2 years ago

Use semi gloss. Satin is too flat.

Does the Polycrylic offer a fan nozzle on the can?

Not that I recall. Just a standard spray can nozzle.
