Rather than clutter up the owners thread, thought it would be easier to have a thread dedicated to MB mods. I got my CE yesterday and have been very busy trying to mod the game. CE owners are at a big disadvantage because CGC has literally disabled the plug and play options, including for the plasma disc, the drac coffin LED and the speaker lights. The manual literally states that the settings screen has been omitted for the CE version for many of these cool features. So, we have to be a bit more creative for mod connections, but the intention is at least for our mods to work with all versions of the MBR and original games (where possible), with connections varying depending on which version you own.

So far, we have the following mods ready to go (our site will be updated tomorrow as well as our Pinside shop, pricing available tomorrow):

*Trough light - blue shown; all game versions.

*Backboard lights (one 6 inch led strip on each side, purple and white shown; CE and original. It's not needed in the SE and LE versions as CGC has done a good job with the RGB lighting .

*Disco ball! - Fits all versions, the ball activates with the "Shoot Again" lamp in the remakes and in the original it will activate when extra ball is lit, matches the dracula/disco ball animation on the display.

*Plasma disc - I am still working on testing this, but for the SE it will plug into the game's Plasma port. Not sure where to connect in the CE yet (any suggestions from the crowd?), nor the original.

*Drac Coffin LED - CE version only (stock in SE and LE versions). This is a simple mod, just a 5" LED strip, BUT it will require light soldering of two connections (no way around it really the way the game has been wired. It is soldered directly to the coffin flasher board, which is easy to access. Took me 30 seconds to solder it. I'm thinking $10 shipped.

*Mods in progress - Speaker lights similar to what we offer for MMR and undercab lights that will match the speaker lights pattern (Remake CE version only). They will not be interactive with the game as CGC has disabled speaker lights in the CE version.

I think that's about it for now. I look forward to see the great work that others will be doing too.

Quoted from Zablon:

Ohhh, I might get the disco ball, but it seems like it should more toward the center - where the red flasher is over the trough.

You can mount it wherever you want, it mounts over any playfield screw.

Busy this morning with speaker lights and undercab for the CE only.

And interactive undercab for the SE and LE, tied to the stock speaker lights. They work the same as in AFMr.

#6 5 years ago

Plasma disc testing for fit and function is done for the SE. Will be available for sale shortly. It works interactively with the game exactly as it does with the LE. It's lit in attract mode and during Frankenstein mb and whenever else the game tells.it to be active.Plug and play, 2 minute install.

Likeky ready within two weeks. Limited quantities.

Quoted from DJNOEL30:

That trough light looks cool, I may need to grab one of those. Is it pretty easy to install, I’m not very technical. I got an LE on the way.

It’s plug and play, instructions with pics. Takes less than 5 mins to install regardless of skill level.

Should be getting my MBr classic version tomorrow so ordered you color changing trough light, back of playfield light kit,as well as your disco ball! I look forward to playing my new pin and installing your items! Can’t wait!
Jason

Thank you! Shipping today. Wish I had the plasma disc for the CE, only available for the SE right now. waiting on a board to make it work properly for the CE.

Quoted from Rdoyle1978:

What’s different between the CE and SE that requires a different board?

Plasma disc runs on 3v, game puts out 5v. It will work with 5v, but I would worry about longevity. Board I have coming regulates the voltage down to 3v. There is available 3v on the SE.

It won’t be interactive on the CE the way it is on the LE/SE, no way around it as it’s been disabled by CGG in the game code so would be on most of the time.

Boards came in yesterday to convert from 6v to 3v so plasma discs will be available tomorrow on our site for the CE. Unlike on the SE discs, which are available now on our site, they won’t be interactive with the game and will be driven by the 5v header on the big board under the playfield. There just aren’t that many options available for the CE to make it interactive with Frankenstein or other parts of the game.

Quoted from Kneeno:

Did the Lermods trough RGB! Awesome and necessary! Anyone attempt to upload a custom logo to replace the Chicago Gaming Logo? Page 1-11 in owners manual. This is for home use so not a necessity but the the 320x80 pixels, 24 bit uncompressed BMP format is a bit out of my comfort zone. Thanks to anyone that can assist.
Mike

I did the custom logo, use Microsoft paint. Find a logo you want and just resize it in paint to 320x80 and then save it as a .bmp file 24 bit.

And, glad you like the RGB trough light, it does help a lot and looks cool.

We developed an interactive trough light tied to the GI. It matches the GI, changing color when the gi lights change color. For the SE and LE only, sorry CE owners. For CE owners we have a standard RGB trough light.

Quoted from Rdoyle1978:

I just installed this - as far as I am concerned, this is a MUST-HAVE mod for the game. The blue color LED looks almost like a black light and is only a few SMDs but it adds ALL the light that is missing in the original design. It takes about 3 seconds to install, too. Absolute must-have.

Thanks, glad you like it. I didn’t realize the black light effect until I installed it, it does a good job of providing nice accent lighting on the lower part of the play field. I like too how it matches the color changing of the two leds in the side drain area just above the apron, the two that have the designer names on them.

Does Chicago Coin use a protective coating on the glass of the plasma?

What are we talking about here? Plasma disk or display?

Any thoughts on mirror blades like the LE?

Check with cointaker to see if they are available for the remake. Initially they weren’t.

Looking for feedback on some spotlights we made. They are 3d printed covers that house a 3 SMD light strip and mount to the slings where the ramp connects.

What do you think?
