I have a Monster Bash. The auto fire mechanism stopped working. I replaced the the solenoid, thinking that was it.

The switch for firing the ball is opening and closing in the switch test. All other Solenoids work fine.

When I run test I get, "Left gate is stuck". Is it a coincidence that the wires for the Solenoid on the autofire and left gate are both
Violet and Red?

Is there something a CPU is sensing, saying if the left gate is stuck don't fire the ball?

Any help would be appreciated. I am so far out in the sticks that no one will come service it .

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,
dg

First step: do you have DC voltage at the coil lugs?

Guess I would need and ohmmeter for that I will have to find mine. Thanks for the response Marc!!

If you have a spare fuse, you don't need a meter. Just ground it. If you ground it fast, you might not even need a spare fuse

In any case, you need to sort out the left gate issue, so, solve that and see if that impacts the launch coil.

I checked it with my meter no DC voltage, assuming you meant with the door open .

The wires for the left gate are intact. The ball rolls thru okay. Any ideas to resolve the gate issue?

Door needs to be closed or pull the interlock switch.

Door closed still no DC voltage.

Good. Not getting power. Next thing is to check the fuses that provides power to that coil. Check your manual, find the fuse, pull it from the board and check for continuity across it.

If the fuse checks out OK, find the wire where it connects to the backbox and trace it from coil to coil. You'll probably find a broken/Unsoldered wire somewhere.

And to confirm, black lead on grounding strap, and the other lead on the coil lug?

Yaaaaaaaayyy. Thanks mschonbrun!!! F103 fuse for autofire Solenoid #1 was blown on power board!! Thanks so much for your guidance!

But...the autofire keeps kicking four times after launch and four times when you get alive again.

This was happening before the fuse blew. That is why I replaced Solenoid #1.

Any ideas on the cause here.

Thanks!!!!

Check the switch in front of the auto launch in switch test. Make sure it's not somehow rattling itself or bouncing closed.

#12 8 years ago

And you didn't need to replace the solenoid. They either work or they don't.

Yeah, the red launch button is loose in the assembly. If I hold onto to it after launch it calms down alot. Only flicking once or twice, I will have to lift the playfield again and take a closer look at it. The switch test it opened and closed for the test when I pushed it.

Replace the switch and enjoy your game.

Looks like its the shooting lane switch. A-17791. I only found it on Marco specialties site. But its out of stock. I checked a bunch of other pinball parts sites and can't find it. Anyone know where I can find one?

thanks

Oh, it's the micro switch. You can use any micro switch body and move the actuator arm off.

Just use this:

You don't need the bracket. This is the exact part.

I was able to fix the autofire repeat. The bracket holding the shooter lane switch was bent down, pulling the switch into the closed position.

Pushed the bracket tab back up and success.

Now everything works perfect!!

Thanks for all of your help Marc! I owe you a beer next time I am in the bay area.
