I have all Polk PSW10 subs, but thought I would give this a try since it is so cheap. Use promo code SMORE to get the $39 price.

To make the sub purchase worthwhile you need to add the the PAC SNI-35 converter for ten bucks. You can buy it from Amazon.

    Quoted from FatPanda:

Got the subs today and put one on Godzilla. They are so quiet that I couldn't even tell that they were on. Compared to PSW10s these are nothing. Definitely disappointed as I was expecting at least some sound, but the stock audio drowns out any bass these provide. They might be nice for a small studio setup but not for pinball. Going to return them.

I totally agree. Sorry I posted this "deal" everyone. I had no idea they were so weak. Unfortunately I bought two.

    Quoted from mbwalker:

I have some of these on the pins and they sound decent. Kinda surprised at the feedback. How are you guys hooking these up? Thru the low-level input or the high-level?
I have four 12" Monoprice subs in the theater room and I think I've almost cracked the concrete walls at times.

You had good results with the same 8" models? I'm using the high level input pictured on the left with speaker wires fed from the bottom cab speaker.

    Quoted from mbwalker:

I have a Houdini wired up too. Mine's an earlier version before they started to install the sub. Does yours have a sub or not?
The nice thing about the adapter is the 'balanced' to 'single-ended' thing is also OK even if the pin is 'single-ended' (older pins are single-ended). Makes no difference to the adapter. It's really just a step down audio transformer + a few other parts. But to answer your question - no reason it won't work. When I had a bunch of 90's pins, they all had the adapter. Presents around 16 ohm load when hooking it to an existing woofer. You'll need to add some small alligator clips to the wires. I mentioned it was intended for car audio use, but when used in a pin - it's really performing the same function.
I should point out I still can get some feedback, but that's usually when I get carried away w/the volume knob. Plus I'm on two different circuits, so maybe a slight difference in grounds.
If you don't want to go the DIY route, Pinnovators makes some nice products too for hooking up a sub.
Here's the adapter installed in a pin.

Where are your white, white/black, and brown wires running to from the converter?

    #38 1 year ago
    Quoted from mbwalker:

This is off the top of my head, but the gray and gray/black are the right (what I use). White and white/black are left (it's a stereo adapter but I don't use those). Browns are for grounding if needed.
The RCA is the output, I simply run that under the speaker, making sure the woofer doesn't damage them (the plastic speaker mesh helps prevents that).

Thank you. Then, if you weren't using a mixer you would go into the L or R SPEAKER level input on the sub, correct?

    Quoted from FatPanda:

I'm curious if you get decent results also. Please report back!

Adapter is due to deliver tomorrow. I will report back with my results.

    Quoted from mbwalker:

Correct! Did you get the adapter? If so, hopefully you get some good results!

Well, you saved us all from buying paperweights. The PAC SNI-35 for ten bucks made a BIG difference. Plenty of volume now coming out of the sub. I will post with pics of my wiring later. Just wanted to get this out there in case anyone wanted to order one with Amazon Prime and get the product tomorrow. It has changed my mind on the sub as long as you buy the PAC converter. With the sub sale price and converter, this is a good subwoofer budget option at $50 all in. It's still not a 10" Polk, but at less than half the price I'm happy I bought some.

I hope these directions help. The only wires you need from the converter are the grey and the grey/black wire. Connect the grey wire to the positive lead of the cabinet speaker, and the grey/black wire to the negative lead of the cabinet speaker. I chose to solder the wires, you can also use alligator clips if you prefer like mbwalker did. The second picture shows the placement of the RCA cable on the back of the sub. The third picture is showing where the adjustments are on the converter to increase the volume going to the sub. I adjusted the level with a jeweler's flat blade screwdriver inserted into the arrow. Turning it clockwise increases the volume level.

    Quoted from mbwalker:

So what's the adapter doing on the 8" sub?

That just to illustrate in one picture how where the RCA cable is hooked up on each end. I guess it's a confusing picture. There is only one adapter that remains in the cabinet soldered to the speaker as illustrated in the first picture.

    Quoted from mbwalker:

Gotcha - figured there was a reason, just wasn't sure.

I removed the confusing picture and added another one without the adapter. Maybe we should both trash our last few messages so people aren't confused by the posts?

    Quoted from PinBallPeteFromSD:

I am so glad I found this forum. I bought 4 and they are so unimpressive. I am using the high level input, split into both the L and R to double the volume and its better but week.
I found these for cheap, Should be to my place in 2 days.

Nice find at 2 for $8 on the converter! Let us know how it works out. If for some reason they don't work well, the PAC SNI-35 works great, but it is $10 for one. Link below.

I had the opportunity to test the cheaper option of the two converters. My impressions -
Smaller footprint than the PAC. The wires are much thinner than the PAC. I had to increase the “gain” on the converter to its maximum to get the volume level I was looking for. That’s not something I had to do with the PAC.

In the end, I would recommend spending a couple extra bucks to get the PAC.

Thanks for the promo code. Just got a set of towers for 85$, how can they even ship them that cheap.[quoted image]

Especially those tower speakers. Big boxes and with decent weight. The subs shipped FedEx ground.
