I have a Monopoly pin that starts up and everything seems to work except the DMD. The screen either stays black the whole time, or sometimes shows the monopoly version screen and then goes black the whole time. I have reseated the display ROM and I do have a LOTR and a TSPP at home so I am thinking of switching the DMDs and or the Controller boards today to test further. Any other ideas? Thanks!

afternoon bump. Any ideas of what to look at this evening?

Try reseating the ribbon cables on both ends.

THanks I tried the cables and no fix. Also I swapped the DMD and didnt fix as well. I am thinking I am going to just order a new display RAM and see what happens.

Did you try the Monopoly DMD on the TSPP or LOTR? At least you could rule out the DMD if it works in your other game and continue on the troubleshooting.

Seems you could swap it with TSPP and see if it helps Monopoly and see if it makes TSPP fail.

Likely it will follow the DMD controller board. That is my feeling.

I haven't swapped TSPP, being new as I am I put the TSPP ROM in backwards. Didn't know about the slot and followed the direction on the sticker. Now that the TSPP display ROM is back in right it is doing the exact same thing in TSPP. So I did order new display ROMS for each, actually a whole new set for monopoly as it isnt running v3.02 yet, so I figured it would be updated as well as hopefully solve the issue. I'll post after they come in as it should be this weekend or early next week. Thanks for all the ideas so far.

Ok, I have swapped the TSPP display ROM and it is working now. I also swapped Monopoly's Display and CPU ROMs and it is still not working. I notice that the Version screen displays every time but then as soon as the game goes to attract mode the DMD goes black. I also have another controller board and have swapped that as well and the same thing happens. Any other suggestions?

It may be that your CPU/Sound board isn't communicating with the DMD controller board.
Make sure the ribbon is oriented correctly on both ends.
You could swap CPU/Sound boards between the games to see if the problem follows.
You would not have to swap ROMs. You just need to see if the display comes up.

Thanks, just tried that. I think I've reseated the ribbon cable a thousand time, so I swapped CPU board as suggested and it works. I did put the Monopoly Rom in but used the TSPP CPU board, So obviously the issue is with that board somewhere. Problem is I dont know where to start with it. The board looks to be in perfect shape.

Try to keep it that way.
If you don't have the tools/experience to remove parts from the PCB, send it to a pro. I can take care of it if you'd like.
If you decide to tackle it yourself, I believe it's a 74LS374 just left of the ribbon cable connection on the MPU that most often fails. You can diode test it with power off, or use a logic probe to see if it's buffering the signals properly.

LMK if you'd like me to fix it.

I'm not afraid to solder or de-solder, I just don't know how to test it at all. I have no knowledge when it comes to that.
