I tried to play my WOZ yesterday and found the monkey door will not open, it just makes a sort of motor noise;

Any ideas Pinside?

Cheers.

Sounds like grinding gears to me....
See if you can get a close up look on the inside. Maybe a stud is broken off which aligns the gears or so.

Check the set screws that hold the door on the shaft. Mine did the same and that's what I found.

Sorted it was indeed the screws loose on the door shaft, what a bitch to get to!

Also the motor that drives the monkey up and down is having trouble, damn all this from a new machine!

What's the issue with the Monkey? Is it not picking up the ball? If so, it's probably the magnet sense switch on the back side of the backpanel. Here is a good write up on how to fix that. Just be prepared it's a PITA to get adjusted just right.

No, it judders going down and is so slow in going down the ball is released from the magnet.

I've been told its the brushings in the motor and to open and reassemble it should fix the issue.

Sadly this machine as great as it is has been a real PITA!

Go luck with the fix. When you get it back together put some lube on the screw that it moves on. That smoothed out my friends pretty good.

I have the same problem, how have you fixed it?, a lot of thanks

#9 9 years ago

This is now fixed.

It was a bitch to get the mini-playfield out, but once done, all I had to do was tighten up the mini allen-nut on the motor / door shaft.

All working now.

Now my Monkey is not going down as it should!!

Is it going down but just not all the way or is it binding?

#11 9 years ago

It judders down the first say quarter of the way then picks up speed, but by the time it get to the magnet the machine has released the ball, I'll try and video it this weekend.

Did you put some light oil on the shaft? Is it very dry? Test mode up and down with some lube i would think could do the trick.

to acces the screw is very difficult, some pictures.
