For pinstadiums get the xeno mounts (they can be a pain to initially set up but the work great).

Pinstadium concert edition ultra+ for gnr comes with Xeno, just fyi. Next run of those will be in the next month or two.

P.s. That's a great video!!

Quoted from atg1469:

One of my favorite mods so far have been these plastic protectors from Freddy’s Pinball Paradise! I love the pop of color they add and the reflection from the mirrored side blades is an added bonus!
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

That does look really cool... Looking at your playfield, I think you'd dig the bullets mod mentioned in my previous post. #12

#22 2 years ago
Quoted from atg1469:

Yeah, I certainly prefer this look over the stock black plastic caps, but the potential install for these has kept me from purchasing. In all seriousness, how bad is the install process (how time consuming)?!

I did first 3 in 30 minutes, when he came out with the next set I ordered those and probably same. Set aside an hour and you'll probably end up making me look slow.

#36 2 years ago

What about for the rest of us that are just struggling?

#40 2 years ago
Quoted from iamabearsfan:

At the rate I am going, could have bought a CE with all this Mod'ing . To be honest though, I like how this LE is going to shape up.
Updated list based on your recommendations out there...
1) Pinwoofer GT kit
2) Pin Stadium CE
3) Little Shop of Games Skull, Bullet Shooter Rod, and Sculpted Action Button Piece
4) Sven's updated stage kit
5) Freddy's lighted (color) pinball protectors
Still struggling on the topper. Here are the choices I see out there in the wild:
1) Flame/Sound bar that comes with the CE
2) The Sold Out Show signage one
3) The stadium light one with the moving lights
Of those three, I LOVE the stadium light one. I also have a challenge because my ceiling in my basement is really low. So why don't I get that one? Price. I just can't see me forking over almost 2K for that topper. Wife would kill me!
Are there other options out there that I haven't seen?
Also need side mirrors too. I think I am going with either silver mirrors or dark mirrors. Not any with graphics. I feel there is enough going on on that machine from a graphic perspective. Once I get the mirrors and topper, I think I will be done (for now...
Thanks again for all of the input...
Dave

If you're in that price range for a topper then you are also a candidate for Lior's when it comes out. It will be stunning I'm sure, and not over 2k per his post on his thread. There's some previews... Don't know the height however so that could be a deal breaker for you...

P.s. Your list didn't include pinmonks fans, So unless you're modding this LE to just look at it, when you actually play it more than 20 minutes, you will be adding fans at some point. They Do an excellent job of cooling the flippers to minimize fade. Essential gear.

#47 2 years ago
Quoted from iamabearsfan:

So this amazes me that JJP has not addressed this issue at this point. Has anyone contacted Jack directly on this issue? Seems pretty easy to address and I would think he wouldn't want to be known for selling a 10K+ pin that only can be played for 20 minutes?

First, Merry Christmas!
Second,
Careful your thread's going to go sideways and turn into a JJP bashing thread. Fast.... I like this thread and prefer to keep on topic. The fade starts after 20 minutes and ramps up and is very noticeable by 45 minutes of playing. I think even with my fans if I'm playing a lot and hit a heavy multiball long song, Maybe like Chinese democracy, where i'm constantly flipping with six balls on the field and multiple hitting my flippers at the same time repeatedly during that song with occasional trapping, then towards the end the flippers are definitely weaker. I need a break after a game like that anyway so I get to recover with a break and the game flippers recovers quickly with the fans.

Let's just end it with saying enjoy your game play it and you decide. Maybe u will have the same results as screaminr !!
I'm a big believer in not fixing what ain't broke So I think it's smart to wait and see what happens... Then you can decide, or call Jack, or start a new thread on this topic or join one of the many out there.
Meanwhile you can read about the fans and the background on flipper fade from PinMonk in detail here: https://pinmonk.com/products/tibetan-breeze-jjp-pin-3-flipper-cooling-kit
He would be happy to share with you his data charts on flipper coil temps over game time with and without fans from all his significant testing and research with Karl/ iepinball iepinball , zaphX , etc.

Happy New Year!

#50 2 years ago

The data sheet is on there. Here's right flipper temps over time with and without fans.... How that translates to your gaming experience remains to be seen...! Maybe you don't have that particular model flipper coil in yours screaminr
Is it possible jjp upgraded to a different part for 240hz? Maybe.

Due to staffing and supply chain issues, they can't ship the entire pinball machine all at once It has to come in multiple boxes from multiple sources.

Quoted from iamabearsfan:

So now all of these boxes are coming to the house with the mods and don't even have my machine yet. Wife is getting suspicious. Thoughts on what to tell her and what not to tell her?

#55 2 years ago
Quoted from BladeFury:

When I got it about 3 weeks ago I played like seven games then the wife walks back in the room and sees me tearing it apart... all I hear her say is you’re ridiculous

I got stories too... she says stuff about how does a brand new pin needs all this work and adjustments ... She totally just doesn't get how that could be enjoyable and part of the fun.

#58 2 years ago
Quoted from iamabearsfan:

Starting to worry about power. If I add all of the above, will I have to worry about power? Anything I should be considering?

I don't know where the topper gets its power but The pinwoofer isn't a problem, and the Pinstadiums have their own power supply. Those are the only three things on your list that use power.

#65 2 years ago
Quoted from DanQverymuch:

I know of a really inexpensive mod that would improve GnR 1000%, as far as I'm concerned.
It involves the speaker leads and a pair of wire cutters.
Just trying to be funny, calm down, take it easy, I'll see myself out.

You can stay, I'll click ignore, same difference.
Happy New Year everyone

Quoted from iamabearsfan:

What is the best option for cabinet protectors for the legs?

The metal brackets that come from factory on the corners seemed sufficient to me. There is a slight gap between the legs and the art due to the metal bracket.
Others leave the felt on that shipped with it, but I found that to be much more unstable. I started with it on, and within a week took them off. Much better.
AND if you have Liors Skull Mod, the mod wont fit with the felt on.
I have had mine since Mid November and nudge it and have no signs of legs doing any damage.

I've got that same guitar. It's beautiful. Detail is great...
Here's what I did with it, I decorated the inside of my pin... Which leads me to my latest mod..

I made a diorama and used my pinwoofer as a stage and then took the quarter slot LED lights and unclipped them and mounted them (alien tape) on the door as stage spotlights that shine on Slash when the door is open.
The action button LED light pulses brightly different colors right over Slash on stage and plus there's just so much LED light bleed going on in there anyway, there's a total concert light show going on under the playfield.
When anyone comments on how good the pin sounds, I open the coin door and show them why. Lol.
Rumor has it that I may be the first to do this inside the pin behind the coin door? Anyone seen it before to confirm or deny?

(it's a McFarlane figure with Marshall stacks, btw).

The 3d printed plastic Marshall emblems on the speaker grills on the pin look great and inspired me to play on this concept using a graphic of a Marshall amp, with a single volume knob cranked to 11 made on a high quality sticker in matte finish.

It's size of the grills, and there is no noticeable change in the sound since its not airtight and basically just non-directional midrange speakers firing up anyway.
I've got 3 extra sets if anyone loves it PM me

#97 2 years ago
Quoted from joeraptor2003:

As a suggestion..You could put a few holes in the black area to simulate speaker grill. Either integrate it into the plate in the software or drill some afterwards. That would probably help with the sound too.

Thanks, I considered this, and many versions... especially a 3d plastic Marshall the font size of the one in my sticker placed on the lower half of the grill to keep it open and then the sticker of a gold faceplate is just the top half . I like that idea as well, and if I could get a couple of the 3d print in the size of my sticker I could just add the gold top half and use the emblem on the grill on the lower half. It would be cool but increase the cost in materials and be more effort in installation and more opportunity for crooked installs obviously and so I dont know if its worth it.

This effort for the extra work to keep the grill open was only worth it IF there was a negative effect to the sound covering up that entire grill. There wasn't any negative results. I analyzed sound and aesthetics and played games with sticker both on and off and trimming it different shapes, covering only top half, leaving a gap at the bottom, etc.
Literally you can hear no difference in all options. So it came down to cosmetics and what was simplest and looked the best to me for this quick mod.

I know it's counterintuitive to most people to want to entirely cover up their speaker grill, but the speakers are firing up in the cabinet anyway, and midrange is not directional so you really can't hear a difference and I thought it looked the best like you see it in the picture. It can definitely be improved on with a lot more effort, but this is pretty darn simple and non-destructive enhancement - just like the Marshall 3d print emblem.

Thanks for the suggestion/ comments.

Quoted from PinballGalore:

For now, added all the ones that didn’t require removing the upper playfield. These
Convolux protectors may dim the plastics a tad, but I really like their effect. Game is bright enough as it is.
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

Those do photograph well.

Hey check your right backstage mod from Sven.. the NITL scaffolding and speaker stack is tilted in your second photo... Mine did that until I noticed it gets stuck under that piece of black wood on the back right cabinet wall ... So on the last couple inches of lowering the playfield, if I don't move the mod away from the block slightly with one hand to clear past that wood block while I'm holding the apron bars to lower with the other hand it will get stuck.

No big deal for me to do this now once you know it .

#105 2 years ago
Quoted from ray-dude:

I love Coinbox Slash (very clever!)
Mine is up in the rafters[quoted image]

Thanks!
And yours looks great! The detail on that figure is really good and the sound bar on CE lends itself to becoming a stage very well.
Thanks for the new name Coinbox Slash! Love it!
I might even shorten it to Slashbox. Haha.

#107 2 years ago
Quoted from PinballGalore:

Thanks, it’s all good there I used some 3M dual lock after it kept falling off during gameplay so it’s all in place no matter what, but now it will bother my eye so I’ll get to it anyway.

Lol. I used double sided tape on it for the same reason! Hasn't moved during play since. I think the knocking and rubbing against that wood piece as you lower the playfield was the culprit to loosening it up.

Quoted from darkryder:

Where did you source that Slash figurine and amp? Looks great and I wouldn’t mind sticking those on top of my LE too!

eBay. Google "McFarlane slash"

Quoted from iamabearsfan:

For those that may be considering the Pingraffix Stadium topper WITH the lighting kit, you may want to look at these photos. Not that this is how you have to do it, but thought it was one of the cleaner ways to install the wiring. Each LED strip has to connect to the topper. I ran mine through the inside of the backbox and down the plastic wiring tube. Split it off to the back corner grills. The result is very little wiring on the outside and a very clean look. I will say that I wish the included wiring was a foot longer though.
Either way, I think this mod is the best out there in pinball. Yes it is pricey, but by far the coolest thing I have ever seen and experienced. I have been in this hobby mod'n pins for 20+ years and never have had so many compliments on this product.
Mod can be found here...
https://www.pingraffix.com/product-page/jjp-guns-n-roses-stadium-topper[quoted image][quoted image]

That's how deejaypee Hyperlytes install is also done through The speaker grills. Adding LED strips sync'd to the hot rails is totally a Best mod.. send a PM to him if anyone wants to get on his list for a set. You don't have to spend the big money on the topper if you just want to get just the LED cabinet lights.

#112 2 years ago
Quoted from Enchantress:

deejaypee is there a list of where we all stand numerically for our Hyperlytes? Trying to get an idea of ETA (No Rush). Just super stoked to get these installed for the full experience.

It's worth the wait, I can say. But also this isn't his thread. I would PM him directly.

#116 2 years ago
Quoted from Ecw0930:

What's this soundbar on the ce thing and can I do I with an SE?

I've not seen anyone get excited over the CE sound bar.

#118 2 years ago
Quoted from Ecw0930:

Where is it available? And can I do it with my se?
Or, can I just put any soundbar on an SE?

Someone with a CE would have to identify the model but I'm sure just a normal sound bar is fine. I've never seen a sound bar that looked like the CE one that was quality and if we speculate on the wiring but if be surprised if it's even anything more than more volume due to additional mids and tweets.. you could just use existing wiring in series. But why? This effort makes no sense to me since the volume is loud enough. Need something that improves clarity and quality and amplification would be nice too.
Pinwoofer with sub would be that solution andway more impactful and an actual upgrade....
Trojanlaw has the CE that took off this topper and bar and replaced with the JJP topper and pinwoofer.... He wouldn't have done that if that bar added sound quality.

Just installed the marquee lights and monkey mod from https://www.pinballmodz.com/

This turns the JJP topper into what it should have been. Active RGB marques lights in various patterns looks great and the addition of the monkey mod gives the GnR Pinball logo total new life lighting up and patching into the back trellis stage lights programming that lights with game play. Really great interactive mod!

Next, my pinstadiums NEO CONCERT EDITION for GnR finally arrived that I ordered last November.... OMG. To quote another pinsider "every other GnR you play without Pinstadiums will be boring. These are a game changer! Literally,"

GAME CHANGER.
It's not even possible to accurately capture in pictures or video because the experience so sensual. You can really only experience accurately it in reality. But I could try to make a video anyway I suppose.

Now with pinballmodz JJP topper light show, plus pinstadiums taking the playfield light show into the stratosphere plus Hyperlytes cabinet lights sync'd with the hot rails illuminating the room, it's the most insane light show experience yet.

No such thing as too many lights.

#124 1 year ago
Quoted from barroncaliber:

that topper is sick ! are the lights distracting during game play ?

For me the whole game is distracting while playing. It's total eye candy.. even when it's off.

#128 1 year ago
Quoted from screaminr:

You might need an adaptor if the hyperlights and the pin stadiums go in the same connection .

Already installed. DJ confirmed with someone else with the same setup that this works in the same connection.

They both come with y adapters and both daisy chain into each other on the data feed perfectly along with the hot rails. Both the pinstadiums and the Hyperlytes amplify their own signal so everything is powered independently... I've got 3 power supplies under there into my service port. 2 for PS and 1 for HL.

Good call out but No problem so far.

#129 1 year ago

Just installed the Illumiglass mod from Pinballmodz.com
Video sux and doesnt show the 3D effect and movement this mod gives the artwork as the colors cycle and pulse, but its mesmerizing in person and active with the music. Reminds me of those cool collectors cards you shift back and forth and it looks like they are moving.
Better in person for sure. Same with Pinstadiums.. video wont capture it.

Okay, new/common issue cropping up (again). This time instead of the center scoop going RDTM, the left ball release from the guitar ball lock is going RDTM. Has this happened to anyone yet? If so, fix? I have a couple ideas, but guessing someone else has been fighting this one already.

Mods only thread. you can find posts on this in owners forum. I'll see if I can find you a link.

Quoted from iamabearsfan:

It is funny, I put this on this thread because mod or not, it seems like all of these are things you may want to do to your machine. The tweaking on this machine is almost as important as the mods.

It's your thread, in the end, but keeping it to mods only not only appeals to my OCD but maintains the integrity and value of the thread. Reminds me of a pet peeve when people reply to an old email on a new topic or start a new topic from a unrelated email because its in their inbox, instead of starting a new one with a proper subject. Anyway, there really is no other thread with this extensive of mods list and dedicated focus on GnR mods in one place on Pinside that I know of. Its one of my favorite threads!

#138 1 year ago
Quoted from iamabearsfan:

Yeh, someday I plan to do a post of all of the mods/fixes I did to my machine. I am a little frustrated with JJP in that they could easily proactively communicate to their customers work around/fixes for some of these issues that are popping up all of the time. I did a very simply fix for the bass ramp that eliminated the ball getting stuck at the top. To me JJP should be sending out bulletins or something like that. They have our info right?

I think nothing beats Pinside for hearing about things first and collectively fixing things that are one-offs through the power of the forum. The bass ramp alignment issue is actually very rare. I have probably read all 21,000+ posts in the owners forum and this is mentioned less than 6 times and only happened recently in addition to that. The fix was to remove it and bend the tines (the two middle tines?) if I recall. Some loosening of the spinners fixed for them, etc...

I had my share of little stuff I had to correct/fix/adjust as well and I did it all through the forum's help. I knew what I was getting into waiting 11 months for mine and I am not scared to try and fixing things as it gets me deeper into understanding the pin to be able to keep it running... I spend a lot of time doing that and I am still loving it. This is NOT the machine to buy if you dont want to be pulling glass. I think it requires adjustments and fixes, especially the more you mod it and the more you play it. Between rubbers popping, or switches mis-firing, or needing adjustment, to installing pinwoofer so now the glass rattles and need to figure a solution for that, to pop bumper hangs, etc, its all little stuff generally.

3 days ago I was installing Pinmonks magnet fan and didnt assemble the magnet back tight enough and first game the magnet grabbed and then the ball wont roll off on its own. Had to work through that so I could play again. I was tilting my games trying to shake the ball off the magnet. Sucks when you are in a song and trying to get extra ball and tilt.

I walked up to play it yesterday and looked down and noticed the sling rubber under the pinmonk airball drain barrier plastics was snapped and lying on the playfield near my GNR/AMP lanes.... so much for playing.... had to pull the glass, remove the ramp nuts, remove the plastics there, put on a new sling, and re-assemble all that... now by that time my wife needed me. Oh well, no games for me.... Another day to play...

Went upstairs today and 3 of the LEDs on PinballModz segments on the topper marquee lights went out... I just installed that. Doesnt prevent me from playing but I contacted Kyle and told him ... he asked me to send the segment it to him and he is replacing the 3 LEDs in it. Spend time troubleshooting that to determine it was only 1 segment and again, cut into my playing time.

It is a LOT of work, imo, to get it all working in the beginning after you get it from the assembly line... it is all so new, and needs to get all adjusted and dialed in and things you will not notice until the honeymoon begins, then you play it a lot and just little stuff keeps happening like that. In between there's some damn fun pinball being played, and for me new mods added all the time (just another thing ready to break. LOL).

Keeping the game running is a big part of owning one I have learned, and it can be part of the fun if you have the right perspective and expectations and I think when push comes to shove if you need something serious from JJP, I think they will try and help. Thats been my experience so far. But who am I ? Just barely over a 1yr newbie here telling this to you, a 9yr vet. LOL!

The Hyperlytes are in a single long diffuser with about 5 inches of sticky tape on each end which makes the entire light bar result removable and replaceable in the rare instance it needs to come off, or if you like the Velcro option is doable as well.
The Hyperlytes sync to the hot rails which rocks

Just got done installing the PinStadium light kit. I have to admit the instructions were a little on the rough side. BUT the end result is awesome. Great mod and would highly recommend. Live and Let Die light show just got to a whole new level!

Felt the same way. Instructions has pictures of finished looking modules, when in reality they're just black heat shrink circuit boards. If I recall correctly the ribbon cable descriptions were even a little vague/misleading.

Because you posted this and it matches my experience I'm pretty sure that everyone goes through this confusion. Did you install the xeno mounts? I skipped that And just using the magna mounts only. In I don't mind manually detaching them from the magnet if I need to lift the play field. Maybe I'll try the xeno mount someday. But I'm just not sure the juice is worth the squeeze.
The effects from Pinstadium however are awesome. Wait till you play more songs. In a dimly lit room of course..... Out ta get me, and rocket Queen Are the first two that come to mind.. as another pinsider famously said "now every other GNR will seem boring in comparison"
Congrats!

Quoted from iamabearsfan:I ended up using the megamounts. Really weren't that big of a deal to install. Little tricky getting the back left mount to install. Also, I think JJP used a little thicker wood and their mount didn't fit. So I had to dremel some material off of the mount to make it work.
As for the lights, the only real negative I wasn't expecting was that about 25% of the side art can't be seen anymore. Those side rails for the lights are pretty tall. Overall worth it, but should be noted for someone considering the mod.

Good tip. And yes you just reminded me that I had the same disappointment about the artwork cover up, but totally forgot about it until you just mentioned it if that makes you hopeful.

Just another reason why I think mirror blades work so well on this title!

Yep true on that. I almost got them!
But you know the art blades are right up there integrating with the LE poster theme.
The pinstadiums are easily worth an inch of lost art. 10 minutes of initial disappointment that I totally forgot about once I played a game with the pinstadiums.
