The post by P2K inspired me to pick up a cart, modify it and make a video for the channel I'm part of (Pinball Mayhem)

Thanks p2k the cart works great!

I'm really loving mine, not trying to spam the thread but here's a vid I made about 5 months ago. Using the techniques that P2K posted about last year.

    Quoted from ChipS:

I modified my table using the Stanley Hinge version of the mod. I had to loosen the cable to provide more slack and then reattached it, and now the table will go up, but it won't go down.
When I raise it to the maximum height, and then pull the release lever, it will slowly drop about 4 inches, but then stops and will not drop any further. And yes, I've checked the safety stops - they are not engaged. That's not what is causing it to stop.
    Any suggestions?

Check you cable adjustment - can you get any more travel out of it?

    Quoted from atrainn:

Well I swapped my 500lb table, the new one does work but I don't seem to have any sort of control when lowering it. It's just one speed. With no weight it's fairly slow/reasonable but when a pin is on it the table drops pretty fast so I can't really ease it on to the ground. I've tried playing with the cable but I can't find any sort of configuration where it will let me do a slow descent.

Earlier in the thread, I'm sure there is discussion of the valve adjustment

Yep p2k's post should be keyed as well.

Here's a video I made about my experience with this method (worked great for me)

    Quoted from hawkfanz:

Does anyone own this one from Menards? $98 right now seems like a great deal if it is as good as the one from Harbor Freight. Looks the same.

In the pics it looks to be a bit lighter than the HF one. That's not a bad thing

    Quoted from MJW:

2nd harbor freight lift table that does not hold pressure out if the box.... I will try and bleed. Wtf

I would disconnect the cable or make sure it is really loose. The valve is pretty touchy

    #678 4 years ago
    Quoted from MJW:

Which cable are you referring to ?

The release cable that lowers the table. It's hooked to the lever on the handle.

    Quoted from MJW:

This was my problem. From the factory cable is so tight it’s always in lower mode. Just touching the cable body would lower it. Loosened cable connector and it is working. Thanks all for the input.

Excellent! Thank you for the feedback.

    Quoted from topkat:

Fixed it but it wasn’t the oil. Maybe someone can learn from my mistake.
The bracket that pushes the cylinder release pin was bent very slightly but enough that touched the pin.
Bent the bracket and back in business

    Thank you for the update

    Quoted from Waxx:

I have crab walked so many pins over the years being cheap. Finally bought one when I was redoing all my carpet.
It’s amazing what having the right tool for the job will do. Couldn’t be happier but I still need to mod mine.

Yes! after I used my lift for the second time I figured it just paid for itself. I love it

    Quoted from Trindawg:

I have the 500 lb Hf Lift, and I noticed that when I go to lower the lift, it goes down SUPER SLOW. any tips on how to get it to come down a little more smoothly ??

The release valve is super touchy on these. Tighten the cable carefully - too much and it will come down on it's own.

    Nice idea

    Quoted from Irishbastard:

Curious, has anyone's lift failed to keep it's height? I've had mine for years and currently have a project cab sitting on it. Noticed today it lowered itself completely. Lifted it back up, few hours later, lowered again. Piston going? Or is there something else I should look at?
    Thanks

Mine will slowly leak down, so when I have a project machine on it for awhile I put down the safety bars. that way it only goes down a bit before the bars stop it.

    #855 3 years ago
    Quoted from Irishbastard:

Hmm, safety bars you say.....Are those on the 500lb one? If so, oops...

No worries, learning safety stuff is a good thing

There's one on each side. I've circled them in red.

    Quoted from TenaciousT:

All right you made me look . My cart is over ten years old ( orange ) no safety bars on it !

Interesting! But I'm guessing your lift works better than mine

    Quoted from Pinball-Ike:

Well, I found all the modifications inventive and impressive but a bit hinky for me on the HF model.
So I bought one of these from Grainger. Quite easy to rotate the handle 180, like 10 minutes, so it folds the direction I want, and it works great...the only downside is that the handle doesn’t fold flat over the cart for storage. But I don’t need the handle flat for storage.

Looks nice - you do get more on this model for the extra money.

    Quoted from JMCFAN:

Ok bought the 500lb HF lift a month or so ago....did the handle mod...ant stored it. Now I need to move my games... pump the handle... comes up.. get it located...then nothing... release...pump the handle...nothing... wait a while etc... does the same thing... up...and then nothing... ideas..??? Brand new... never used...

The cable adjustment is very finicky. I just wiggle the cable when I need mine to lower.
