Hi all,

My route is currently a number of miles away and so I thought I would ask this question here.

If you just leave modern machines (I have Medieval Madness (Remake - Standard) and #star-wars-stern-le in particular) on for 24 hours in one day how many kilowatt hours of energy might they consume?

I will be able to measure this eventually with a "Kill-o-Watt" meter but not for a while.

Thanks!

250-350 w/h in standby I seem to remember. Max power is around 1150 on my bsd.
So..call it 7kw per day per machine, we pay 10 cents per kw so .70 per day per machine....
Ughh Monday math.....

More than I might have guessed but does seem reasonable. I'm thinking of putting my pins in a breakfast/Pub area of a motel.

I think the best power strategy is a combination of two things:

1. On during waking hours, something like 6 AM until 10 PM or since this hotel room is also a Pub maybe midnight.
2. During other hours have a motion sensor / power plug combo that turns on an SSR so that someone checking them out can play once they boot.

6-8 hours of off-time would save 1/3 of $0.70 or around a quarter a day. Like most hotels would even notice, people waste everything when they feel they are entitled.

Definately leave them on if there’s any chance of a play. 1 play would pay for the days power. They call it “attract mode” for a reason

MMr draws less current than does MM because it has a switching power supply rather than a giant transformer (and it's associated losses), so standby on a MMr is probably 130w (there is a thread were somebody measured it when it first came out, 130w seems to stick in my brain).

Don't have them turn on and off every time someone walks by. Thermal cycling is worse than just leaving the game on.

What you can do it use a $10 WiFi plug and simply program a power-on schedule from your phone.

You can, of course, change this schedule for seasonal hours from anywhere in the world.

Because the plugs read the current draw, you can actually read when someone is playing the game, or if someone has turned the game completely off.

Are you sure aboot the 10¢/KwH for a commercial customer of the power company?

Commercial electricity rates in Colorado average 9.39¢/kWh (says the google)

I understand these are easily hackable. I have 3 older ones that I never plugged in for this reason.

I see they have a button - anyone on site can override whatever state the plug is in? Are you notified?

Michigan, Consumers Energy Commercial rate is 12.7¢ kWh in the Summer and aboot 10¢ during the other three seasons.

Sempra (Southern California/SDG&E) is 13.7¢ kWh year round for commercial accounts. Plus the monthly $16-75 "service fee".

Billboard commercial accounts pay a cheaper service fee.

Obviously, you only put these on the "Guest Network" of your home.

Just like when friends come over and want to use your WiFi, you only allow them on the Guest Network - you don't give them access to your other devices or your NAS filled with tentacle porn.

The Hotel is going to do the same thing, they are only going to give you the Guest Network login - they are not stupid.

If someone DOES climb under the game to override the "off state" and presses the button, they must REALLY want to play the game, right?

If the janitorial staff overrides the button because they want to play the game at 4am, that's cool with you I assume?

The next scheduled time program will put the game back in it's normal state. If the game is already ON at 6am, it will remain on. If the game is OFF at 6am, it will turn on.

Are you notified?

You can be if you want to be.

If you see tons of late night usage, you might just want to extend the On Time so the night staff is encouraged to play.

Yeah, just like the sales tax, some states 0% some states 9%....

Were at .10148 for small commercial single phase. .0997 for residential.

WOW, you are smart! How did you know what kind of porn I prefer? ( - :

Where I'm coming from is to provide the best possible deal presentation to the venue owners. I'm hoping to keep all the pin revenue in exchange for them keeping all the bar revenue. If I can show a good faith effort to minimize their costs it might help the deal go through.

I asked for the numbers for the following reason: They might ask how much it costs to have these on 24/7, now I'll know how to answer. I plan to tell them that the revenue they'll get from just my bar sales will pay for the electricity, although when I play pinball I don't drink - too important. I also don't generally go to bars to drink anymore anyway.

This type of adapter has allure and I think I'll at least give these power controllers a try should they go for this. Any hints on how to better sell this idea to a faceless set of shareholders would be appreciated.

Everyone from CO likes the same porn.

The shareholders don't care about the electrical costs, they only care about how many more people will these games bring through the door.

They don't care how many watts the popcorn machine consumes, they only care that free salty popcorn almost doubles the amount of drinks served.

They don't care how many watts the beverage vending machines consume (many are running on floors that are seldom even booked), they only care that they earn them a quarterly check.

They are going to want to know that you are fully insured, have secured the proper license tags from the city/county/state and that you have a "full service team" that will only service the game during morning or early afternoon hours. Bars DO NOT want you emptying or servicing games in the evenings.

Remember also, that if there are cranes, jukeboxes, dart boards or pool tables already installed, you won't be able to bring in your pins, because another op already has all the coin-op for that location locked up.

Buy in bulk, like Costco or Sam's Club. "One size fits all"

These were all great insights. I'll leave that part out and mention pinballmap.com as a way to steer people to their Pub.

Absolutely nothing there except a bar for serving drinks. The bar, pool, hot tub and TV are the only distraction they offer. Maybe the Whales get served out tentacle porn though.

See if you can get a local league to agree to a night there 2x a month as a trial.

If the pub manager sees a sizeable bump, he'll report that to the shirts above him.

Here's the latest easy to read and understand electric bill from the VFW that includes the recent mini show. Note all of the fees and surcharges. Kind of makes the home electric bill seem like chump change.

The Wifi smart plug is a great idea. I only mention this because I do some work for one of the companies that makes them. Be careful with the really cheap no-name brands on Amazon. They're fine for a fan or light in your home, but have much lower power thresholds than they state. Plus their apps suck and scheduling isn't always reliable.

TP-Link, Wemo, and Amazon make smart plugs that are good quality (although the energy monitoring ones can get pricey).

I understand one thing about that bill - how much you are supposed to pay.

Some commercial rates in Utah (near the Flaming Gorge dam) get down to 6.7 cents/KWH. Residential is still under $0.10 there:
