There are a handful of mods that add to a game, but there are WAY more that just add clutter to a game and screw up sight lines, make things confusing, or just look cheap alongside stuff that already looked good on their own. Mods that clarify what a shot is without looking horrible are nice to have in there at times. Functional mods that improve play are great (air ball protectors, scoop protectors/repair, etc.).

The worst of all the mods, hands down, are the colored GI bulbs. Let's just settle this for good: COLORED BULBS ARE NOT TO BE USED FOR GI. Use white light for GI only, and save us from the horror that is the spilled Skittles across the playfield look.

Below are are before/after pics on an Addams Family. Can anybody really say that the second pic is an improvement? Looks like a color disaster.

Here is what a good TAF looks like with tasteful LEDs.

    Quoted from PoMC:

One of the worst modded games I bought was a TFTC with blinding white LEDs in the backbox. I don't know how the prior owner could play the game because an awful glare covered almost the top half of the playfield. It was impossible to even see the balls in the pops, track balls thru the orbits, etc.

It's because a lot of collectors don't play enough to care about function over form. Any mod that detracts from gameplay is gone immediately on anything I pick up. That's how they want to enjoy the hobby, and that's fine, but it sure makes for a lot of work when I have to undo it all when I pick it up.

    Quoted from Nexyss:

I am guessing you have only seen pictures of this. In person, the purple spotlights make the playfield colors pop way better than white. Also, the extra illumination around the playfield makes the insert LEDs less harsh. Pair this with LED/GI OCD, and I think it is a perfect lighting solution.

Adding purple to a pinball's lighting is never good. It's darker than white light and it messes with the artist's original coloring. I have seen a thousand games with purple lighting. It's always bad. No exception.

don't say that to any bride of pinbot 2.0 owner... those be fighting words!!

BoP is probably the most abused game by bad LEDs.

    That is objectively terrible.
