    Quoted from Travish:

Yes, we HATE boobies. Boobies bad.

Well, the worst mod of all is...er...uhh...did someone say boobies?

    #102 2 years ago
    Quoted from Haymaker:

The worst mods ever are the hideous alternate translites.

What, the Wheel of Fortune translite with the naked woman on it doesn't seem right?
Or the Elvira and the Party Monsters with her boobs drawn like a 5th grader's fantasy doesn't seem right?
Or The Flintstones translite with Betty and Wilma, uh.. greeting Fred and Barney doesn't seem right?
How about the Breakshot translite with the women playing strip... pool, I guess? Sure that's a thing.
World Poker Tour? More like World Naked Women Tour, am I right?
Anyone else remember when in the movie "The Creature from the Black Lagoon" when the Creature captures the porn model?

Somehow I'm surprised the Twister translite doesn't have a tornado of boobs attacking a lingerie factory.

    #103 2 years ago

I would agree most alternative translights look like they were designed by middle schoolers. There are exceptions though. Aurich version of The Shadow sure seems to be as close as you can get to "objectively better" then the original. The only people it would not appeal to are those that are strictly purist. Someone also mentioned Last Action Hero. That's another translight that's an improvement IMHO. Either way it's your machine. Do whatever you want with it.

I hate custom shooter rods. I once played an X-men that had a wolverine custom shooter rod and the damn ear thing stabbed me.

    Quoted from lpeters82:

My favorite mod picture. Does anyone know if this was a joke or did someone actually do this to a STTNG.

PS: I actually don't mind some modding. It's fun to tinker and as noted by this thread title they can always be reversed.

I own one of the two Romulan ships in the backgroun of that picture... it was real. FUN couldn't sell the game like that, put the big ships on Ebay and I snagged one on a 1AM auction end time for 5 bucks. Drove the 4 miles or whatever to their shop to pick it up in person, greatly to the chagrin of Steve's business partner, who I can't remember his name for the life of me....probably because the guy is a dickbag.

    Quoted from jar155:

Adding purple to a pinball's lighting is never good. It's darker than white light and it messes with the artist's original coloring. I have seen a thousand games with purple lighting. It's always bad. No exception.

    Quoted from Axl:

What is up with pinball guys and the colour purple?

Its the GI and Spotlight color of choice in some pre-made kits by a single vendor.

    #107 2 years ago
    Quoted from zacaj:

Yeah, I just love listing twenty hallmark ornaments on eBay individually and then packaging and shipping them all out

Yeah, well point taken there but I was referring to actual legit "pinball mods", not tree ornaments turned accoutrements. Not much value left on those lol

    #108 2 years ago

Sign me up.....when it comes to adding junk to the playfield, less is definitely more.

Your Honda Civic doesn't need a wing and your pinball machine doesn't need any of your old action figures.

    #109 2 years ago

Can someone show some more bad boobies so when a good one comes along I'll know?

    Okay.

This thread just became my favorite, passing "street fighter 2 is terrible"

    #113 2 years ago
    Quoted from pmWolf:

I dunno. I kind of like some mods.
Bill Ung's AFM mod? Jeebus, that's awesome.

    Best mod ever

don't say that to any bride of pinbot 2.0 owner... those be fighting words!!

BoP is probably the most abused game by bad LEDs.

    #116 2 years ago

I quite like the cpr mirrored backglass though I have never seen one in person and as for alternative translites l like the lah one though same again haven't seen it in person.

    #117 2 years ago
    Quoted from lordloss:

My take on pinball machines is that 99% of the time they should be left stock. Over the years i've pulled my fair share of hallmark ornaments, dollar store junk, and other random junk of of games.
If you feel the same, post mods you've found in games and removed.
First mod I removed: USS Enterprise ornament.

So how much for the enterprise??

    #118 2 years ago
    Quoted from CrazyLevi:

Yup. They all look absolutely terrible.
Except I suppose aurichs shadow. I'll still take an original. Always.

I'm legit honored that the grumpiest of the grumps said something I did isn't shit!

I like some mods, duh, I've made a few myself. But mostly I dig "upgrades". Take something cheap or subpar or boring and make it better. Hallmark ornaments are fine when replacing existing models, almost always tacky when just zip tied somewhere random. Tron arcade cabinet is way nicer with the new mod. When I did my hammer half the point was to make it smaller and block your sight lines less. I think the WOZ red smoke is great, saw it in person and was impressed. Maybe not for route use, but for home it looks way nicer. Sneeze guards are a necessary evil but they're ugly.

Almost all colored LED changes suck. Dolls and toys and signs are usually not my thing. The AC/DC bell cover though looks fine because it's upgrading an area that looked crummy and it's not in your face.

Still, for all the ones I do like I think 9 times out of 10 I probably agree with this thread. More tacky ones than good ones.

If it makes you happy then fine. If the buyer wants to pay for them then great. If I sold my Tron I'd have no problem charging extra for Eli's fiber optics, don't want to don't buy.

But I've done my share of reversing crap mods.

    #119 2 years ago

I will be removing the ark mod from my Williams IJ -- Ive only had the machine for a couple weeks (was installed when I bought it) but as you can see it is not holding up too well and can interfere with game play.

I will, however, be updating/modding the factory planes above the playfield with more realistic versions (is it a mod if you are replacing something that was already there?). . . the cheap looking planes are one of the few things I do not like about the game. I will also be installing plastic protectors but Id consider those more of an enhancement than a mod. The lost plastic and lighting were also present when I bought the game -- it will stay but again, is it a mod if it was sorta kinda there originally?

    IMG_4096 (resized).jpg

    #120 2 years ago

I like some mods... But only if they look like factory installed. Or they bring the game a nice touch. Here a few examples...

    Non gamespecific:
    1. pdi glass
    2. color dmd
    3. Speakerupgrade
    4. backboard LED-stripe for most wpc games
    5. LEDs if you use them right
    6. Shaker
    7. playfieldprotector, cliffys, convolux
    8. led/gi ocd
    9. powdercoated or plated cabinet parts

    Gamespecific:
    1. Flintstones - light up Dino and buildings
    2. twd - small zombie heads over slingshot nuts
    3. twd - backboard ramp Lights
    4. twd - metal bumper caps
    5. met - snake Fangs, snake mod
    6. met - hooked spinner mod
    7. lotr - army of death @ potd
    8. lotr - palantir mod
    9. lotr - brass plated ramps
    10. woz - witchmod
    11. woz - hallmark figures on Lane plastics
    12. CC - Continued upgrade

If i got time I'll make some pictures from this mods

    Some good, some bad.

    Non reversible are the worst.

    And blades?

Why are they called blades? Just stickers that if you want to remove are going to leave gunk everywhere!

    #123 2 years ago
    Quoted from fxdwg:

don't say that to any bride of pinbot 2.0 owner... those be fighting words!!

Don't know about fighting, but I do know I have about 30 of them in mine . The helmet alone takes up about 20, the rest goes in SelectedSpaces(tm) in the backbox.

    #124 2 years ago

Well when one of you guys buys a T2 and doesn't want the T1000 mod above the escape route targets, I'll pay for the cost of shipping it to me.

    #125 2 years ago
    Quoted from robin:

Bottom line, as long as mods are reversible, I have no issue with them

I agree with this but I will also add that mods are ok if they do not affect gameplay to give an advantage to a player. Any modification from factory to improve playability can also be seen as cheating-imo.

With all the new games coming loaded with LED's and LCD's it has made me appreciate the old incandescent bulbs and factory DMD's from previous years. I now have games that are nearly mod free and give that golden look (now a nostalgic look). Games like WOF, Elvis, LOTR look great original. Meanwhile games like T3, Tron, POTC, etc. scream to be modded. I think moderation is key but tinkering is fun and it only adds to the overall enjoyment of the hobby.

Again everything in moderation...try not to overdue otherwise it becomes tacky.

This driver literally drives around Colorado- "Trolling"

    Overmodded car.jpg

    #126 2 years ago

I sell my un-modded machines for the same prices as those that are all goobered up.

    Great thread.

    #127 2 years ago
    Quoted from Travish:

Yes, we HATE boobies. Boobies bad.

You really finding it so hard to dig up pictures of side boob that you need to slap some amateur hour translite onto your High Speed 2?

Pro tip: Go to a website called google.com and enter "tits and cars" and all your troubles will be over, without ruining your pinball machine.

    #128 2 years ago
    Quoted from Haymaker:

The worst mods ever are the hideous alternate translites.

Agreed, can't stand that particular stupid translite. Sure beautiful women but doesn't belong on the game, go look at a Playboy.

Hey , where am I ? I think I stumbled into the wrong thread. I gotta get the Hell outta here !!!

    #131 2 years ago

I can deal with the lighting mods or something that is going to protect the playfield. That's about it. Even the color DMD's look cool but gluing stuff to your playfield because you ahve an empty space is not for me.

    #132 2 years ago

A few mods that I really enjoy:

    ColorDMD
Lord of the Rings Palantir mod
    Tron Arcade mod
    Cliffy protectors

    Quoted from Travish:

Yes, we HATE boobies. Boobies bad.

Don't get me wrong...I loves me some boobies. Big ones...small ones...some the size of your head. BUT... Just because I like boobs doesn't mean I need hideous photoshop "art" of them all over my game. Especially since most don't match the look of the game one bit. Honestly I'd rather have some of the cheesy gottlieb or data easy translites on my games than these tasteless abominations.
Yes, the one exception I would even consider being decent is Aurich's Shadow translite. Still, generally I prefer the game to have its original look.

Just for the record.....The WWFRR alt translite is universally recognized as the preferred translite....in case you guys were wondering...

    #136 2 years ago
    Quoted from Haymaker:

The worst mods ever are the hideous alternate translites.

I'll agree other than the Congo/FS.

Flinstones, in it's natural state, is so goddamn ugly spilling a bowl of chili on it would improve things. Now, add in some swinging and oral on the translite and it's hilarious.

And then there's Congo....i mean it's jut so horrible that's it's the best thing ever. Because the problem with alternates is they take themselves too seriously.

    #137 2 years ago
    Quoted from SuperPinball:

I hate custom shooter rods. I once played an X-men that had a wolverine custom shooter rod and the damn ear thing stabbed me.

I can understand why people do not like the custom shooters but the slow color changing LED shooters look great on some games

    #138 2 years ago

Honesty that hallmark enterprise is a great model. It's where people install it (in a way that obscures the playfield) that's a problem. Also even though it's a wide body, there's already a lot of toys on sttng. Personally I'd consider replacing my shuttle with an Enterprise, because I think it's a nicer model. I'm only half kidding in my offer to buy it...

    Those alligator clips, though...

    Quoted from Dragon36:

    #140 2 years ago
    Quoted from Mocean:

Honesty that hallmark enterprise is a great model

But isn't there an enterprise already in the machine?

On the playfield? Why do you need 2?

A quick read of topic before clicking and I thought:

Wow, what a weird thread topic; Why would pinside have a thread about getting rid of moderators?

    Wrong mods.....lol.

oooooh its a terminator 3. I thought it was the look directly into the sun and burn your eyeballs machine

See, thats just it! Now it doesn't matter if artwork is faded, plastics broken or missing, or playfield worn! Can't see it!!

    #148 2 years ago

If you play this T3 you'll need a new retina :p

And for the low, low price of $3500 too. I guess adding $300 worth of way too bright LEDs to your game to render it almost unplayable somehow increases the value of the game by $750.

Maybe the seller will do a package deal with his RCT Skittles Edition that is priced for only $5,000.
