    Quoted from vdojaq:

John, the only person you are fooling is yourself. Plain and simple, you will never build 10 games in 6 months. I am not trying to trash you or your idea, it's just reality. Rome was not built in a day and 10 fully completed pinball machines will not be built by you or any single person in 6 months.
Keep with coach and your 1 - 2 games and you can make it happen.

Pound down a 6 pack of beer and think again.
    This is going to happen!

This thread is bizarre to say the least. I thought it was a troll/joke at first but now looks like it will be interesting to follow, Especially with alcohol overindulgence fueling ego’s and tempers!

    Quoted from CrazyLevi:

Not to mention we all rest easier knowing he isn’t behind the wheel.

For the amount of beer drinking being described in this thread I’m surprised that this isn’t the preferred mode of transportation.

    Quoted from Ilushka85:

Considering I lead a team of 100 engineers currently pretty sure I have built many things. Hence the money. It didn’t grow on my money tree

    That’s very impressive but….

    Quoted from Beechwood:

I did my best research for a first week recap:
-Coach gave him $200 to stock the pop machine. The price says 35 cents but it is only a quarter, don't be fooled.
-He got his wife a suitcase of Bud and some cash
-Coach went looking for an artist and went silent, most likely in the artist rich region called Las Vegas
-He received parts from Pinball Life, which he gently sorted into used soda cardboard boxes
-He serviced the following machines for rent money: Jurrasic Park, Twister, Sopranos, Bowling Queen. He watched an operator service a Batman pin
-He lost 400 nickels gambling at a local watering hole.
-He thought about testing the MDF. A few days later he rolled some pinballs over it. By most accounts it was a success.
-He checked on his buddies 4 weed plants.
-He ate a Kale Salad, 3 days of Genoa hot salami on free rolls, and cooked some pork chops dangerously close to combustibles. He had pepperoni that looked suspiciously like a large turd.
-Coach offered more money, he refused.
-He tried in vain to open the file to print the blueprint for his MDF playfield.
-He had 26 individual beers and 3 pitchers of beer (from what was posted)
-He went shopping at the local grocery whose security followed him through the store, until they realized he was just "some poor retired guy looking for dollar off stickers"

Thank you for the recap. Can we all agree that a pitcher of beer is approx. (4) 12-16 oz beers?
That would equal about 38 beers total for the week or an average of 5-6 beers every day. If this is a 6 month project can it be considered a (26)weeks X (38)beers =988 beer project?

    Quoted from greatwichjohn:

Here is the info on VLT games: https://www.alc.ca/content/alc/en/our-games/video-lottery.html
Legal gambling killed off most bars & bowling alleys having pinball & video games to play many years ago. You are lucky to find coin op pool tables & jukebox in a few bars.
Having some of the donated beer at the workshop tonight. Blue, save the Olands beer.
Sociable is our way of saying cheers by raising your beverage at a bar in Nova Scotia. Good way to promote more drinking! https://www.nsbuzz.ca/fooddrink/top-halifax-nova-scotia-bars-and-pubs/

John how much is a pint of Guinness at the bar ? Do they serve 20oz imperial pints or the smaller US 16oz?
My local pub used to charge $5 for 16oz. 2 years later (after Covid)they now charge $7. That’s stupid expensive to me because (24) 14.9 oz nitro cans costs about $43 at the beer store.

Quoted from cogito:I don't think that's the case. I think people have different coping strategies for dealing with adversity. Of course, in the face of misfortune, everyone feels frustrated at first. Some use introspection and reflect on their own behavior and choices that might have influenced those past outcomes to try to prevent them in the future. They thereby create their sense of agency in the world. Their life is what they make of it. A continuous cycle of frustration, self-assessment and improvement.
Others however forego the self-reflection entirely, and externalize all responsibility: their life is what happens to them. In such a life, with so little agency, the one thing one still can do to cope is to disguise one's ignorance as stubbornnes, and feign disinterest in the face of adversity. So no, I don't think it's happiness per se, but more a cycle of frustration, brief self-pity, and denial. There's no way to change the outcome of events, so why bother caring? Just roll with it, it's all part of the plan.

    Well said President Camacho!
Did Not Sure write that for you ?

She is alive & well, showers everyday so no smell. Her suitcase is on the bottom 6 cans, so I have a service & delivery of a Motordome to a new owner today. So do not expect much of a update today. $65 CDN in my province on sale. https://shop.realcanadianliquorstore.ca/products/budweiser-36-beer-can?variant=39305882665122

Why is Bud so expensive in Canada? That’s almost double the cost where I’m at.

    #8253 1 year ago
    Quoted from Dee-Bow:

ALL beer is fukkin expensive here! I complain about the price of building materials, gasoline, and beer the most! Groceries too but I can live without my vegetables.. the others i can't go without!

How much is a case of Labatt’s or Molson ?
A 30 pack of Labatt blue 12oz cans costs about $28
    24 -16 oz cans costs $25.

    Quoted from greatwichjohn:

Kim lots of classic porn boxes of VHS tapes & magazines at the workshop (storage). Got to remember the good times of the old porn business. Peter North sometimes comes home to Halifax. We lost all our strip clubs many years ago, had lots of good times there!

Very Expensive beer and No strip clubs? I remember hearing stories years ago from friends who traveled to Canada. The overwhelming response was that the gentleman’s clubs were much better than the ones in the US.

    Quoted from Steve_d71:

I have to admit I found the earlier post by pinbub very ignorant. I try to stay out of the bullshit bickering, so I bit my tongue.
But seeing how someone else addressed it I'll give my two cents.
I'm a tradesperson, carpenter to be exact. Unfortunately I don't have 20 pins. If we were all doctor's, lawyer's, phd's, etc..... who would build your homes? Or renovate them? Not to mention concrete forming for large commercial buildings! For all the offices for the highly educated!
    Anyway, that's my two cents.

I have no college education and own more than 20 machines! I’m also a tradesperson. You and rotordave are both correct. The modern world is filled with many people who have college degrees but have almost no knowledge of anything except what was required for their profession. These people, who are a large part of the general population, can barely function as adult humans. They are incapable of completing the simplest of tasks. People on Pinside are the exception to this general rule.

Now back to the good stuff. Food at or beyond its expiration date, lots of beer and a one off machine that has actually progressed faster than I expected. I’ve never heard GWJ speak but I’m my head I hear him sounding just like Jeff Lebowski aka “ the Dude “.

    Quoted from RJW:

Basically means they will prosecute the customer not the sex worker.

That doesn’t seem fair at all!

Canada sure is a confusing and curious place compared to the USA.

I love this thread and have learned quite a bit.

    1) the definition of Funeral sandwiches

    2) recyclables are NOT allowed on the bus!

    3) alcohol and anything else considered a “vice” are highly taxed to pay for healthcare.

    4) how to tell if a prostitute is a undercover police officer. If she’s attractive, dressed properly for the weather and clean she’s probably gonna arrest you.

    5) customers of prostitutes are arrested/prosecuted. Prostitutes are Not!

    6) solid surface electric hot plates are a nice upgrade from the grill type. You can actually cook veggies and other healthier foods.

GWJ have you tried throwing some sliced Bologna on yours? Grandma used to call them sombrero sandwiches cause the center rises up when you cook them. Add hamburger roll/ bread, ketchup or other condiment and it’s a cheap and tasty meal.

    Quoted from Beechwood:

Umm, we aren't all Gordon Ramsey. Just buy them pre cooked for double the price and be done with it.

I’ve never seen hard boiled eggs at the supermarket. Precooked bacon and other scary stuff pumped full of preservatives but not eggs. Although they do sell pickled eggs at the deli counter but that’s different.
    Is this a regional thing?

    #9055 1 year ago
    Quoted from greatwichjohn:

You got to have a social life Avi, & mingle with the general public. Way more fun than drinking alone at the workshop. Spent my lifetime at the bars, & will do the same until I drop dead. For those interested my wife buys multiple bags at a time, & likely has eggs every day.
    https://www.walmart.ca/en/ip/burnbrae-farms-eggs2go-omega-3-hard-boiled-6-pack-pouch/6000199066534
She is in a good mood, bud beer in the fridge, & suitcase standing by. Still has eggs in the bag ready to go, unless there is a shortage.

That’s So true GWJ! There’s almost always good conversation/entertainment at the bar. Even if it’s drunks arguing who the best soccer/football team is or who the greatest rock band ever was.
People watching is almost always interesting too! Milf’s trolling for man meat, Older men flirting with young ladies/wait staff. Some of the loudly spoken conversations we can’t help but overhear from patrons sitting nearby are downright hilarious!

    Quoted from Methos:

Free health care sounds like the bomb.

Yes and the $50 cases of Budweiser beer that fund it.

    #9264 1 year ago
    Quoted from blueberryjohnson:No.
I'm a bit wary to ask this given the pace of pin progress to date. Nevertheless:
John, are you aware that there are approximately ten trillion hours of non-VHS porn accessible to you via but a handful of keystrokes on the world wide web?

It was so much better in the 80’s when porn wasn’t so accessible.
adult classics on VHS were a real treat back in the day. WestCoast video had a adult area in the rental store nearby. But you had to take the box off the shelf and take it to the counter to rent the tape. To not look like a total perv. You had to also rent another tape or two. Apocalypse Now, Stripes and….Naughty nurses! Ah the good old days. Now there is an endless well of material that as you say is only a few keystrokes away.

    Quoted from greatwichjohn:

Nothing wrong with puffers. Just wanted Avi to have a heads up before going there. More bus rides into the night. All the good advice on the build keep it coming. Now the cheap BMW guy is here to drink my beer, & hope he finds a job soon. Keep telling him to sell more shit to survive.

Are they allowed to smoke inside the location and just smell really bad after returning from outside?

Is this a lodge/VFW type of place?

    what machines do they have?

    #9345 1 year ago
    Quoted from Mr68:

Come on guys. Who among us can honestly say with a straight face, that their porn collection has never fallen out of their backpack while hiking.

Was it Larry David or Howard Stern who talked about having a “ shovel buddy” ? This was someone who you would give a key to your home or apartment who was to immediately go and remove your porn stash if you died so your family members or relatives wouldn’t find it when going thru your belongings.

    Quoted from greatwichjohn:

Never wore any funny hats, & the drinking does go on until bedtime on xmas eve day. Around here everyone stocks up on beer since the outlets are closed on the holidays & some bars close for a week to give their staff a break. Never wore any of those stupid xmas sweaters that seem to be the trend in the USA.

Some Christmas sweaters are stupid but others are Hilarious! These guys own a local strip club.
