    Quoted from vdojaq:

If you build it, considering it is a trailer park theme, you must have these finishing touches. Bankruptcy mode, 26,000 jackpot value, a Commodore 64 computer toy, and empty beer cans.

Cabinet should have aluminum siding, and a meshed screen for the coin door.

    Quoted from iceman44:

That’s good for YOU. You did it your way. Nobody knew who you were until you partnered up with JPOP early on.
Charlie took the risk and made it happen. A success story.

Going to have to disagree with this. I knew of Ben Heck since he built a portable Atari 2600 system back in the early 2000s. I checked out his site quite regularly back when I was in high school! Ben was pretty well known for his engineering in the nerd community, and he frequently attended Midwest Gaming Classic in Wisconsin. Maybe not known on Pinside, but he had a reputation for building things predating the jpop partnership.

    Quoted from Beechwood:

This is crazy. Ten years ago my friend called me and I told her I was at pinball expo. Her computer nerd son asked if I knew who Ben Heck was, because he knew he built a pin. I had just rode the elevator with Ben, just him and I, 30 seconds before. Was one of the most pronounced "Truman show" moments of my life.

I knew about Bill Paxton pinball before I even knew who Stern/Williams/etc were. Just another one of those crazy Ben Heck projects and it seemed so cool that a single person was able to put a project like that together. That was probably around the time I got into pinball. I'm pretty sure I got to play it at MGC (and of course later at Lloyd's)

    Quoted from vdojaq:

I am no conspiracy theorist.....but to have received a C&D letter, I have to believe that some asshole copied some of John's posts and his intentions and sent them off to the license holders for review. If John is caliming that he never got in touch with any of the boys, then how in the hell would they have known that was what he wanted to do and fire off a C&D? No fires off a C&D for an interest or inquiry.
Something smells extremely foul here. That is some low shit.

That sounded more like a polite "please stop asking, we're not interested" than a proper cease and desist.

    #2511 1 year ago
    Quoted from iceman44:

Just pull together the $10k and save the extra $1k.
Should be able to do it with a small group. The build journey should be worth the price of admission.

Yes. I'd chip in $25 for the build journey.

    #2792 1 year ago
    Quoted from TreyBo69:

Why care? His goal is slightly less impossible this way

    Trust.

There's a difference between saying "After reviewing the numbers, and a Stern Pro type game isn't feasible at this price" and saying "Actually technically I never said it's not a 1970s style game." I'd trust the person saying the former.

    Quoted from CrazyLevi:

I’ll just say 4 pop bumpers clustered that close together, with most of them obstructed where the ball won’t get to them…seems….odd?
The “optional” 3rd flipper also seems like a complete waste of time, space, and BOM.

It could be used as an additional shot, to sneak a ball into the shooter lane like Stern's Star Trek. Otherwise I agree.

    Quoted from iceman44:

This thread is a cross between the soap opera “All my Children” and an episode of the Twilight Zone.
Sitting back watching and reading while on my little hiatus was something else!
The entertainment value is top notch.
Since some of you thin skinned Pinside Babies whined to the Mods to have me thrown off I’d be perfectly fine with that.
But judging from the all the comments it seems you guys crave the drama. Lol
So I’ll be here to do my part and add to the entertainment value
Or you can vote me off the island. Don’t care
Either way, John, Jon and I are gonna have fun with this project.
There will be a charity component to it as well

Honestly not sure why some folks are worked up. I'm here to see another Ice-funded pinball venture. It will either succeed or fail, time will tell!

    Quoted from iceman44:

One thing I want to make sure of is an awesome art package that incorporates some great Redneck Cowboy stuff.
The build cost, as it goes up, will be because of upgrades like that

    Mechanical bull action?

    #3744 1 year ago
    Quoted from benheck:

John it's great to have a goal but it needs to be realistic. As Steve Ritchie says "if two people tell ya something sucks, it sucks!" Your timeline sucks.
You seem more concerned with the big reveal than the actual process itself, like a Bridezilla who just wants to be queen for a day, marriage is secondary. "Oh my brother's house, SXSW, party in Austin!" (as a fellow drunk yes, great city to drink in)
But you aren't taking into account the road to get there. It's going to be MUCH harder than you think, even with a lot of help. I worked on AMH for over a year before we took it to a show, and even then we only got the Ghost Loop opto working the DAY BEFORE! Shows are all bailing twine and bullshit, consider how Dutch Pinball were the "belles of the ball" when they showed 3 TBL in 2014....then look what happened when they tried to go large.
Hand to god I am not making this up, the first AMH we shipped I was flashing code to the board as they were strapping it to the pallet and the truck driver, bless his soul, was patiently waiting for us to finish.
However hard you think this is gonna be, it's harder, and the fact you think it's gonna be easy means an even ruder awakening. Make sure Ice is open to a wider schedule as making TPF with even one game is gonna take a miracle.

How long did it take for you to get your AMH whitewood good enough to bring to a show? I vaguely recall a flipping whitewood at MGC in 2012 or 2013.

    Quoted from iceman44:

As for this thread and project I don’t see why we wouldn’t continue to have fun with it for the next six months.
Contrary to what some might believe I’m not doing this “out of spite” to Ben or anyone else.
Don’t need or care about the attention. I do like hanging out and seeing what happens.
#1 I like John and his attitude. And I like the “underdog”
I think he’s being underestimated in what he and his crew can accomplish. I get the skepticism, they say “pinball is hard”.
No need to make any more out of this than it really is, just a fun pinball project.
My next thing is working on an artist for the game with John.
Who could that be? How much?

Can we get John worked into the artwork? Maybe hanging out at a bar pounding back the beer, 8 empty glasses next to him?

    Quoted from iceman44:

Oh no. We want you here for the full ride. A to Z.
    You and Lord Bennie
    Bennie can’t help himself.

Look, all I'm saying is, has anyone considered making a Trailer Trash Pinball documentary?

    Quoted from Mr68:

Here's some suggestions for our friend John who captured his Mini-Whale to begin all of the madness.
I really struggled with the letter J

    Good guess but sorry, no.

Is the whitewood proto going to be a separate game from what Ice receives?

I hope Coach demands the pinballs all wear tiny cowboy hats.

Any Visual pinball folks here building a virtual version of Trailer Park/Trailer Trash/Texas [] based on Jon Norris' design? We may get to flip this virtually ahead of everyone else.

I don't know why people keep talking about his diet and his beer drinking. Weve gone over it over and over again. He doesn't care so why keep preaching about it?

Same, but also why does he keep talking about his beer drinking?

    Quoted from BMore-Pinball:

I am sorry you are suffering this, I know a lot of people that battle with depression and it is a real struggle.
I will leave you with one basic point of advice.
Happiness is a choice and not a right or a default state of being.
You have to constantly make the choice to be happy and seek out happiness - it's a decision you need to wake up every day and make

I know you mean well. Trust me, I did not choose my 5 years of severe depression and suicidal thoughts. I'm on the other side of it thankfully, but advice like yours may be among the worst I could have heard during that time. There's a gulf between "I'm unhappy with my life choices" depression and "every waking moment is torture" depression. Brains are complicated. Awesome if your outlook has helped you, but we're not all built the same. I survived that bout of depression, I certainly didn't conquer it.

Is it Coach (tm) asking for the deviations in layout, or Greatwich John?

    #8853 1 year ago

Not a pinball designer, but the gap between standups and drops look like a spot for balls to get stuck. Would it be possible to move the drops/standups closer to one another for smoother operation?

I’d actually get shit done too!

    iceman, please make this happen!

    Quoted from Methos:

Eggs are extremely unhealthy. Eating just a few a week increases your risk of cancer, especially breast cancer. But...carry on.

I mean this in a non-defensive, earnest way but I'd actually be interested in a vegan thread if you wanted to start one. I don't think this thread is the best avenue.

    #9133 1 year ago
    Quoted from Roostking:

I've mentioned it before I cannot believe Ice is gonna go down like this lol. If hes got 10 grand to fund this, then he definitely got 10 grand to make it happen somewhere else.

Then why pay GWJ at all?

    #9279 1 year ago
    Quoted from AviRoo:

I'm sorry. I didn't realize my stuff was overshadowing. I kind of figured Since GWJ already posts about me here i might aswell post here too. If it's too bothersome i could make a different thread, I'm not sure it'd be as entertaining as this one though admittedly.

You're a welcomed presence in this thread.

    Quoted from BMore-Pinball:

It's your life to carry on as you wish, but to compare yourself to a bunch of other heavy drinking drunks and then say you don't have a drinking problem is a little absurd.

I'm pretty sure John drinks more in a day than I do in a decade.
