    To put things in perspective:

This thread has as many posts as the CCr thread.

    Quoted from vdojaq:

You will get your machine, eventually

    Or not..

    Or it dies...

    #6874 1 year ago
    Quoted from vdojaq:

I had never heard of it until this thread either. Makes sense about what they are?
See, there are things we can all learn from this! Go GWJ!

You dont need a funeral to enjoy a tasty sandwich.

Often they are served "here" in bars during happy hour.

Kinda like an alternative to hot dogs.

    #6884 1 year ago
    Quoted from Dee-Bow:

Is a hotdog really a sandwich tho?!

This has been long debated, however there is a current consensus:

"Even the language experts have issued a verdict: Merriam-Webster came down definitively on the side of yes, a hot dog IS a sandwich, because “the definition of sandwich is 'two or more slices of bread or a split roll having a filling in between".

Still there is some uncertanty of whether the hotdog itself is actually food...

the progress is going according to plan!!

    Or not..
    Or it dies...

    #7005 1 year ago
    Quoted from Beechwood:

So, in a nutshell, you had 5 free hot dogs, destroyed your computer with a hammer and disappointed your wife and dead mother (may she rest in peace,).
Holy shit, I need to go to bed. Beer count 10 for me.

5 hotdogs, 10 beers, played pinball, destroyed a computer...

Sounds like a hell of a night out!

    #7071 1 year ago
    Quoted from TreyBo69:

Thankfully this thread chronicled a few things. The PDF of the CAD file is on this thread. I can make you a dwg out of that by scanning it into AutoCAD. It might lose a few smaller details and any layering data Jon had though. (Or keep sending smoke signals to Jon, but be considerate of his asthma)
Also for those who want to truly live life: https://10minutemail.com/
Amazing for spam and for those who want to live dangerously. Get a random email generated. It dies after 10 minutes if you aren't actively using it.

Its just perfect for spam sites.

    #7074 1 year ago

If you set your email client to delete all mail on the server after you get it, then its all gone all the time on the server.

    #7161 1 year ago
    Quoted from gjm:

OK, serious question: How does one change their AOL email to Gmail and let everyone know??? I want to do it (I think) but between family, friends, tons of businesses I do business with, all of my doctors, insurance's, credit cards ECT ECT it would take a massive effort to notify everyone. Is there an "easy solution?"
I guess I never thought about doing it after all of these years because I never had any issues with AOL but the other day I called to place an order for something and the girl laughed when I gave her my AOL email, when I asked her how to change it and let everyone know about the change.... Crickets.
If it ain't broke, why fix it.?

Forward all of your mail to the new account.

Use the signature feature of your email and add a signature that states you have a new address and list it there.

Now each time you respond to a new email address, your signature will tell people what happened.

    Quoted from Methos:

How exactly did the password snafu start in the first place?

    It starts with a hammer.

    #7380 1 year ago

If there are any critical mistakes at this point....There's always the hammer.

The retheme material for “The Mean Streets of Halifax” version of the pin just keeps on pouring forth from GWJ. Too many good ideas, will have to edit them down.

    Quoted from zombywoof:

I always thought that the breakfast of champions was cold pizza and warm beer.

Its my go to after a hard night...

Buy 'em by the case at Costco for $18

    #7624 1 year ago

I love my Jon Norris Stargate, its really well done.

    One of my favorite games.

    #7649 1 year ago
    Quoted from Haymaker:

I was thinking we should have gone with "picnic plate"
The best part is the label said chicken and then somebody crossed it out and wrote in pen "rib"

Definitely a set of tasty ribs there! Not chicken. The edit was correct.

    #7659 1 year ago
    Quoted from vdojaq:

And John thinks Hot Dogs are mystery meat? Look at those friggin McRib patty formations or whatever the hell they are. That makes the beef pink slime look attractive.

    MMMMmmmm, Pink beef slime.....!

    #7795 1 year ago

    Its gonna happen!

    Or not.

    Or it dies....

Different length hot dogs, ummm, is natural.

    #7896 1 year ago
    Quoted from dr_nybble:

Nickel gambling is entertainment for John. As someone who is self-described as unlucky, he's having fun passing the time. No worse than popping loonies into a pinball machine (where the prospect of no return is guaranteed).
We might recoil at some of John's fiscal and lifestyle choices, yet, would we be willing to put all of our own choices under full scrutiny? There is some irony here when we are spending thousands of dollars on pinball machines.

Unfortunately life is filled with gray ham, uneven hot dogs, $1 meals and nickel bets, for all of us.

    John is living the dream!

    #7976 1 year ago
    Quoted from BMore-Pinball:

possibly, but over consumption interferes with execution of that creative genius

Some of the most noted artists were complete alcoholics:

    https://www.thecollector.com/famous-artists-alcoholism/

Not to forget about all of the tortured artists that have succumbed to drug overdoses.

Talent and Genius takes a toll on the frail human frame.

    Its deeply saddening...

    #7978 1 year ago
    Quoted from Mr68:

    Google, Wet Brain.
    (Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome)
    Its a real thing.

This is also the real thing:

    #7983 1 year ago
    Quoted from Tranquilize:

The drug addicted, mentally deranged artists are the severe minority, although some of them are famous.
It's like the other popular version of this: there are billionaires that never graduated highschool....

    Still, deeply saddening...

Its way better to PM anyone who wants it

    #8065 1 year ago
    Quoted from Dee-Bow:

Too late to delete. The robots got him.. did i just read that john smokes weeed! This is information the spam bots can take to their leaders! Glorious! The menu makes so much more sense! If he ever mentions booger sugar then you guys should have zero doubts of finishing on time. No sleep til... texasssss

Its not too late to just backspace it out.

    Just do it.

    #8078 1 year ago
    Quoted from greenhornet:

At the very least, the new guy provides john another 'team member' to have beers with.

    Quoted from Methos:

They must spend 25% of their monthly income on beer with those prices!

    Beer = Liquid bread

    #8150 1 year ago
    Quoted from Dee-Bow:

You guys might need to sit down before you hear me out.. what if he wraps the end of the wooden stick with a ball of paper towel and uses them to clean the grooves on the grill. I know, Mind blown! You can still beat on him for the windex as a cleaning agent tho. That's blasphemy and we won't stand for it.

    Windex is barely toxic.

Naptha, lacquer thinner, adhesives, paint, reducer, epoxy, metal polish, wax...etc.

Im certain decades of using regular cleaning and repair agents are much more toxic than a little ammonia and water.............

A while back, it was a common process to allow urine to ferment for 3 days, as the Urea would become ammonia, and use it as a general cleaner. Hence ammonia based cleaners....

And still we are alive somehow.

    #8152 1 year ago
    Quoted from TreyBo69:

I just use dish soap and water like a rational person. If it’s cast iron I finish with a paper towel dipped in oil to prevent rust.

    No Urea/ammonia cleaners for you?

Ok then...The upcoming Zombie apocalypse might change that...

    #8154 1 year ago

Well, wait at least 3 days to throw old urine at it.

Be reasonable. This is the modern era.

    #8156 1 year ago
    Quoted from Methos:

I don't think they have soap at the shop....but they do have a full pop machine.

10 beers a day would be a constant source of ammonia cleaner.

    #8332 1 year ago
    Quoted from Roostking:

Why allow people to steal from you?

I have had a lot of stuff stolen from me.

I never allowed any of it, I would rather that my stuff wasnt stolen at all.

    #8437 1 year ago
    Quoted from jp1985:

    I’d running to the bathroom.

Still, one has to think about home made ammonia cleaner!

    #8451 1 year ago
    Quoted from pookycade:

In a thread about green eggs and ham it may induce some childish reversion.
    [quoted image]

Excuse me, its boiled eggs and gray ham.

Get it together man! Stick with the plan. Or dont...

    #8469 1 year ago
    Quoted from flynnibus:

I'm still trying to understand how the ball guides that don't really match the design are supposed to test the actual design? Or are you going for the 'looks like a duck, quacks like a duck...' strategy of 'close enough'?
Are you going to build the entire whitewood and then realize you should have cut it to size first so you can put it in a cabinet?
Beyond making something that kinda looks like a pinball.. I'm confused on what the actual path forward is. Just looking like a pinball game doesn't really make it play like one.

Its all part of the plan....Or not.

    #8480 1 year ago

The upper left sling looks amazing!

    #8593 1 year ago
    Quoted from greatwichjohn:

Funeral sandwich tray hardly is discounted or I have other discount meals available. Only 1 beer today, & I went home after Avi. Using a mix of used target brackets.

You have to crash a funeral reception to get the free lunch.

    #8620 1 year ago
    Quoted from vdojaq:

I am going home and making a grilled "pound of bacon" and Velveeta sandwich on Texas toast with a pint of Pearl Street DTB on tap to wash it down!

Also known as stuffed crust pizza!

    Sign me up!

    #8630 1 year ago
    Quoted from snakesnsparklers:

We will not. The original design will be modified.

    Or not.

    Or it dies...

    #8636 1 year ago
    Quoted from LORDDREK:

I’m blown away by how expensive the pork and beer is up there. That same cut half price all day long. Same with the beer. Brutal…

    Canadian $

    #8650 1 year ago
    Quoted from BMore-Pinball:

This thread requires daily reading to keep up

    hourly...or not...

    #8732 1 year ago
    Quoted from vdojaq:

Why do I persist? It's Great Pinball all over again. While I do question where all of the $5K has gone, I guess it really doesn't matter as long as you are still happy with what, where, and how. Some where, somehow someone is going to be made a chump over all of this. Maybe even it will be me and the other naysayers. Tell you what though, the old saying is true, a tiger doesn't change his stripes.
I don't have to be right about anything, but as many have heard repeatedly around here, follow the breadcrumbs . Well my friend, some of those breadcrumbs are awfully stale.

I dont come here for reality.

I want to "live the dream" vicariously through GWJ !

    #8797 1 year ago
    Quoted from TreyBo69:

Good thing this is just the pre-whitewood whitewood to test what does and doesn't work[quoted image]

    Its genius!

    #8855 1 year ago

Now that the game is finished, how soon will the mod developers get involved...

    #8895 1 year ago

One of my absolute favorite games is Stargate.

A jon Norris design, Its near perfection.

Just sayin'. Jon Norris is amazing!

    #9006 1 year ago
    Quoted from blueberryjohnson:

Have you considered recruiting or contracting these ladies for playtesting? I expect they don't encounter much pinball on the streets. Could provide a good casual's perspective.

Playtesting a "Street Hooker" can be expensive and lead to unwanted STD's....

Though exciting, I would have to advise against it.

    #9125 1 year ago
    Quoted from Wolfmarsh:

Are we reading the same thread?

There "IS" a separate pin being built.

Along the lines of the Dominos pin, but for Sobey's.

GWJ is their corporate spokesperson, pinball designer and builder.

All the rest is a smokescreen.....

    #9144 1 year ago
    Quoted from greatwichjohn:

Pinball building is hard. Glad I do not have to do 10.

Uh huh, Im waiting for the Sobeys pinball reveal....

    Street Hooker mode

    Gray ham mode

    Daily expired food hunt

    Broken grill mode

    Crazy street person mode

There are too many to list.

    #9158 1 year ago
    Quoted from greatwichjohn:

Rough start to the day. Avi has to wait outside in the cold until I arrive usually 10 am. Got a earlier bus & got to endure another crazy guy going off. On the hunt for his ugly fat girl friend & her mother. Said he wanted to harm or kill them. He got the boot from a previous bus driver from India for his crazy talk. Glad to see him go.
Got my supper cheap tray of sliced variety meats. Had the nice slices of Montreal Smoked Meat, & a lonely piece of beef. Had it with my free roll. Lunch will be the rest of my rolls & Hot Genoa Salami. The nasty sliced crap ham I threw under another car parked on the street next to the shop. This time it was the lone crow getting ready to chow down. Got to see him dart away from a Fedex truck & few cars. He wanted to eat alone & not watched so back into the workshop. Avi got his cap kit, & I explained the orientation of longer lead is usually positive. Showed how the negative arrow went towards the shorter lead. Told him if he screws up they go pop! He brought in the game system for the Simpsons vid. Moving the whitewood I stepped on a yellow wire for the SAVED target bank, & ripped it off. I will replace the coil with a new one, & salvage the old one. Drag Race vid & Jungle Queen are still here waiting to leave. Got to work on the em's today & maybe Medusa. Tonight might be on the whitewood when Avi leaves.
    [quoted image]

The spirit of Hunter S. Thompson lives on.

I just cant tear my eyes away from this.

GWJ, you are an amazing writer, chronicling the story of our times.

    I'm hooked.

    #9165 1 year ago
    Quoted from homebrood:

    Sounds like a netflix series...

    Halifax, The Greatwich Chronicles.

Written by Taylor Sheridan, featuring the life and times of John Greatwich.

Now "Thats" a Netflix series I would watch

    Someone should promote this...

Tulsa King's got nothin' on GWJ.

    #9259 1 year ago
    Quoted from blueberryjohnson:

    No.
I'm a bit wary to ask this given the pace of pin progress to date. Nevertheless:
John, are you aware that there are approximately ten trillion hours of non-VHS porn accessible to you via but a handful of keystrokes on the world wide web?

But is it classic VHS quality?

    #9463 1 year ago
    Quoted from Beechwood:

    3 month summary update.
The topics started getting a little more intimate since the last update... parental guidance is suggested.
-He hot wired a safety switch on the cheap electric heater, what could go wrong?
-He identified people born in 1965 as heavy drinkers. His year, 1964 was apparently a vastly different culture.
-He admitted years ago he had an edible before a pinball tourney and had to withdraw from competition, and now only imbibes in second hand weed smoke.
-He went to the dive bar and found a sliver of cue chalk for playing on the poor quality pool tables for free. Oh, and a hooker was in the bathroom.
-While musing if the pretty hookers on the street were undercover cops, he shared the story of a guy last year that drove a boat looking for hookers. He would pick them up by the old shop. Unsure if the boat was in the water at the time. FYI the old shop now sells appliances if anyone is in the market for such a device.
-He put a good pounding on the bus glass as it pulled away without him. Because Halifax has "little public toilets" he pissed on a fence and again on a tree next to the navel base. Apparently Canada has tiny toilets, probably related to their conversion to metric.
-He rode a bus with a crazy guy looking for his ugly fat girlfriend and her mother to kill them. A bus driver from India previously gave him the boot. Apparently this crazy guy gets around.
-He threw more crap meat under a car, for a lone crow. Assuming the space under parked cars is the Canadian equivalent of a trash can.
-the broke BMW guy made his entrance into the thread eating drinking and using the shop all for free. He ripped the oreo package so it couldn't be resealed, which really set off GWJ. His name is Richard, which is fitting since he seems like a Dick.
-After the revelation of mid-day VHS porn parties, he stated he does not jack off at the shop as his wife takes care of his needs. (As long he as refrains from farting. He slipped one in the other night and she was not impressed, probably smelled like funeral sandwiches and despair. Coming from someone who eats hard boiled eggs all the time, this says a LOT)
-He was targeted by a religious nut trying to save GWJ from hell as he was going to buy cotton swabs, tissues, and beer. Probably an honest mistake.
-After getting a cold and wiring the whitewood while watching VHS porn, he admitted March 1 2023 may not happen.
-while working on Jungle Queen, he lost screws, Avi stripped a screw, and GWJ showed him how to lay down a towel. He then cleaned up a sticky pop bumper. Not sure if those are all breadcrumbs or if the porn collection is responsible
-Mechs on the whitewood are nearly all wired. The wires arent connected to anything yet, but it is... progress.
These updates are getting very difficult, yikes.
    -

The Thread need a FAQ section, there are a lot of questions....

Just not certain that there are answers...

Good job on sending jackets vdojaq!

When I see the pork has been sitting since last Friday, my stomach says no way.......

    Not part of the plan.

    Quoted from AviRoo:

Back home. Today wasn't as exciting but i did a few odds and ends. Buddy i sold a cocktail table to back in october messaging my facebook trying to get me to drive an hours+ ways out there just to fix a joystick that magically stopped working. I dunno. I had that cocktail table in a bar for a entire year+ and it never had 1 single issue..

    Whenever I sell a game:

Cash on the glass first and formost.

Secondly, I make sure they know "its your problem now".

This solves any questions about warranty on 30 year old equipment.

    There is NONE.
