Wasn't the plan to have a completed game in Texas by March 2023 (not a whitewood)?

We were definitely supposed to see a 100% completed game and possibly up to 10!!!! It was to be a Stern “Professional” quality build and GWJ wanted no parts of entering it in the competition at TPF as he said “ that is for the home brew guys”. Well there is nothing professional about this build except for the layout that was so generously provided by Jon Norris and if not for that we would not even be as far as we are now!
Which whitewood will be at TPF?
Surely not the one with the 40 year old rats nest of wires that was just going to be used for testing? It'll be the one with "a connector on every mech" right? It hasn't even been cut to fit in a cabinet or had side rails put on it.
Where's the display? Where's the sound system? What about the lighting system? Where are the inserts and GI lights?
What about all the little brackets and bolts you need to get a playfield into a cabinet and hung on the lockdown receiver? I feel like there are a lot more PBL orders in the future.
As others have said there's a million things that could be done to get closer to the goal of having -something- at TPF. Right now it's just being ignored in favor of sobeys, beer and porn jokes.
Get this show together and build something you can be proud of.
Quoted from greatwichjohn:Looks like Gerry has switched to using UPS from USPS for my parcel. Might see it during the holidays or sooner. Maybe TPF & SXSW is going to be interesting in March 2023.
Get ready for an absurd brokerage bill for your goods if it's coming by UPS.
Quoted from Wolfmarsh:Get this show together and build something you can be proud of.
...or not!
Quoted from iceman44:Plus I need to decide which direction this thing is going to go.
So does GWJ
Quoted from Mr68:Someone already mentioned the creek.
Yes, I quoted him. Then make a joke. Which went over your head.
Quoted from AviRoo:Eh. the horse has been beaten dead on that account but if you post 3 times in a row did you really earn it? i dunno. 10,000 posts in itself is still pretty wild and it'll only go up.
20k by christmas

I assume it's too late to get in on games 2-10?
Quoted from greatwichjohn:The whitewood will definitely be in Texas in March 2023
Maybe or maybe not or it dies...
Quoted from snakesnsparklers:The only thing people are having heartburn over are your changes to it.
And the fact that Jon eats peperoni for the main course of many meals. I like peperoni on pizza or as an ingredient, in a sandwich, or some other dish, but if I just ate huge chunks of peperoni as a main course of many of my meals, I would certainly have a lot of heartburn!!! Mild or not!
Maybe the windex wash prevents that issue! Or not...
Quoted from brucipher:Wasn't the plan to have a completed game in Texas by March 2023 (not a whitewood)?
The plan was to have up to to TEN (10) completed Stern Pro level machines in Texas by March 2023.
Quoted from Mr68:Hey, John. Is your brother's driveway asphalt, concrete or gravel?
Brothers house in Austin has a concrete driveway, big enough for a tour bus & still have some parking. Along with the smaller house next door.
Still could have a alternate cabinet build out of the shit panel board in time for Texas. That could be a real attention piece. Trailer Trash, or what ever theme the coach has in mind. Got my drivers license renewed 6 months late, will come in the mail in weeks like a toy out of a cracker jack box. Avi has arrived to work on his vid. going to be lots of room in the shop in the new year for builds.

Alternatively, how about putting in a lot of work to build the actual game like you've told everyone a thousand times since the summer you would easily complete before TPF?
Quoted from greatwichjohn:Still could have a alternate cabinet build out of the shit panel board in time for Texas.
A cabinet out of that panel board would not hold together for 5 minutes! Also how is it going to get to TPF?
Even the whitewood alone will be hard to get down there!
This will be quite a feat if you pull it off! Not hedging my bets but as Larry the Cable Guy would say... Git 'er Dun' !!!
Quoted from greatwichjohn:Brothers house in Austin is has a concrete driveway, big enough for a tour bus & still have some parking.
Phew, I was worried for 5 months that I was actually going to have to rent one. I think I am safe!

A Stern Pro level game to be precise.
Quoted from Beechwood:Phew, I was worried for 5 months that I was actually going to have to rent one. I think I am safe!

Maybe not. Think I can scrap together a cabinet myself with the few skills I have. Just got a call that I am still in the running to get a Fulltime Electronics Apprentice for up to 2+ months in January. Job placement, or just experience. I was talking with the guy this Fall before Avi came to get some experience at the workshop. Waiting on a meeting or call from the sponsor to fully pay for the internship.
John you delegate about as well as you procrastinate. At least you do utilize your skill set. That’s important.
Quoted from LORDDREK:John you delegate about as well as you procrastinate. At least you do utilize your skill set. That’s important.
Got lots of experience over my lifetime filling dumpsters.

So, you're already looking to replace Avi? Not cool Bro'

John - you could have gotten close to getting game together. So many people on this thread were pulling for you and offering advice. Instead, you just drank and gambled your time away... literally.
You owe us nothing of course, but we're disappointed not that you don't have the game together or even close, but that you mismanaged your time and your priorities are ass backward.
It's not too late to pull it together. Can you stop drinking long enough to make that happen?
Quoted from Methos: Can you stop drinking long enough to make that happen?
I can answer that one.
No.
Quoted from greatwichjohn:Got lots of experience over my lifetime filling dumpsters.
Breadcrumb about murder
Quoted from Mr68:Breadcrumb about murder
It must be, as he has regaled us with many stories of discarding food and trash under and around parked cars. Must be a Halifax thing.
Quoted from Beechwood:It must be, as he has regaled us with many stories of discarding food and trash under and around parked cars. Must be a Halifax thing.
The dumpsters are overflowing with dead hookers, beer bottles, and wood panel playfields. So food scraps go under cars. All very logical
Avi is not being replaced, & not giving up beer drinking. Cleaning up the workshop & getting Avi to do the same.
Quoted from greatwichjohn:& not giving up beer drinking.
So your beer drinking is more important that the project. Got it.
Quoted from Methos:John - you could have gotten close to getting game together
but could he have ................. I have my doubts

Quoted from greatwichjohn:Yes everything is going fine. The game(s) will be ready & finished for SXSW & TPF in March 2023.

Quoted from greatwichjohn:Flipping whitewood before xmas. I do know how to do contacts & connectors contrary to what people think.
Today:
Quoted from greatwichjohn:The whitewood will be in Texas for March 2023, & in a playing condition. SXSW & TPF is still the plan. Likely not a finished game, but there is still a few months to go.
If only you would listen, even to yourself.
Quoted from Methos:So your beer drinking is more important that the project. Got it.
Was there ever any doubt? Pretty much anything is more important to John than this project.
John, you seem paralyzed by indecision. Maybe spend an hour or two and do up a schedule to completion. List all the things that need to be done and prioritize them. As an earlier poster recently mentioned, figure out the things that you can do right now and start doing them.
Cheers
Quoted from snakesnsparklers:Drinking 10 beers and crimping 10 wires is a successful day!
Minor progress is still progress
Ok, here we go again. When are we just going to leave John alone about his drinking, food choices and lack of progress? If you are tired of nothing getting done and all the beer counts and other distractions, you can always just not read all this...
I know many think they are just trying to be helpfull but it's been beaten like a dead horse for many many many hundreds and thousands of posts!
Just check in and enjoy the ride, make fun comments and let John do John!
Or not, or maybe or whatever, I don't know don't listen to me...or do or maybe not...
Quoted from homebrood:Ok, here we go again. When are we just going to leave John alone about his drinking, food choices and lack of progress?
When we see some actual progress maybe?
And regarding food choices - nobody is ridiculing John for his diet. Many have offered tips or alternatives from a place of wanting to help. I don't think anybody in this thread wishes ill to John, but his diet is shortening his life. We are aware, he is aware, nothing will change, we know that. But what else is this thread to discuss? John likes to talk about beer and food choices more than pinball, so that's what gets commented on most.
Quoted from snakesnsparklers:But what else is this thread to discuss? John likes to talk about beer and food choices more than pinball, so that's what gets commented on most.
Ok, I get it fair enough. Just seems like there have been waves of pilling on about the food and drinking a bit too much...

This is the pinside version.

The problem is.. John has demonstrated not being able to do a list or timeline, which is the FIRST thing that should have been done back in July or whatever when he decided to shoot for a TPF deadline. The very first and most basic thing of managing a project with a target date.
This all made more sense after I flipped thru the playfield thread.. skimming the 52 pages was enough to get the point -- some people who preordered we're emailing him up to 13 times with their info because he kept losing it. Someone on the thread had to create and maintain spreadsheet for him and try to document who ordered what and paid when. All over 8 years... 8 YEARS!!! It was just as bad/worse than Jpop.
Back home. Today wasn't as exciting but i did a few odds and ends. Buddy i sold a cocktail table to back in october messaging my facebook trying to get me to drive an hours+ ways out there just to fix a joystick that magically stopped working. I dunno. I had that cocktail table in a bar for a entire year+ and it never had 1 single issue..

He should have never been in a position to sell or take any $. He should have just produced a product and relied on someone else for distribution. Then it would have worked out much better for all.
Quoted from blueberryjohnson:Imagine the mess if he had managed to secure the TPB license.
If he had secured the TPB license and $100k, it would have been JPop all over again.
Quoted from Flipperfun:If he had secured the TPB license and $100k, it would have been JPop all over again.
Yes but would he be driving a Range Rover?
