Rum & Coke in my area was another main drink at the bars, & trips to Cuba & DR for me. People missed out my other posts over the years about TBL. The shows have a lot of stuff that you would never really see on tv. If the INVESTOR at $100k US is found, the plan is to bring in a retired pinball designer & artist (not Jpop). I was talking about this privately to the wealthy pinball person who wants to remain silent. Dave Fix is probably thinking the same with the shit show here. Steve & Jack are likely having a good laugh. Jack will always remember the Australian guys & their port wine. That did me in from drinking beer at TPF one year, made it across the street to sleep it off for a few hours. Pinball is about the fun & what we remember over our lifetime.

Dave Fix is probably drafting a restraining order and a C&D right now. Guarantee he wants nothing to do with you & wishes you’d stop talking about him.

Why only $100k? Wouldn't prospects for quality and success improve with a 250k ultra or 500k giga whale?

    #55 1 year ago

I thought I recognized that guy. Never saw TPBs but I've seen this. There's a recent pinball connection now that Rush was made. Looks like Ed Robertson in there as well.

$60 million is a better number.

Why mention the license on the forum without first securing it?

I'd have loved to have saw David's face when you told him the theme "Trailer Park Boys".........I bet he was looking for an exit ASAP

At least it's not Jpoop or raza, so we can all rejoice and enjoy the ride!

If they ban GWJ from pinside, I will go on a hunger strike.

I could use the diet, I need my mini whale form back.

I think your initial ask of 100k is far too low if you hope to land the trailer park boys theme. Authentic callouts from the actors on that high budget show may cost you at least half of your asking price. As I’m sure you know if you want the top talent you have to pay top dollar.
I wish you luck cause I really do think you got a great thing going here. I see numerous mentions of a TPB theme in all the dream theme threads here on pinside. So props to you on knowing what the market wants and dare I say NEEDS. Glad to see this holy grail theme will soon be in your good if not great hands.
Damn near impossible to screw the TPB license up but my friend I am sure you will find a way.
Once again I wish you luck and really looking forward to playing your TPB 4 any year now : )

So we're not getting the Moby Dick porn pin ?

That's it. My $100K is staying in my sock.

But I thought you had never passed out from drinking?

    Quoted from Slash:

But I thought you had never passed out from drinking?

I did not pass out, & know when to stop drinking. Made it across the road in Dallas. Port is not my choice of drink. $100k US I believe is a good idea to get a prototype made. Maybe I am wrong, we will find out if the mega investor is found for the only one. If not plan B looks very good.

    #66 1 year ago

    John,

Do not discuss your drinking habits online. It’s no one’s business but your own. Investors (note the terminology) do not want to invest with someone they perceive has a problem with alcohol. Whether you do or don’t is irrelevant, posting about it will create doubt in the mind of your investor.

    Cheers,

    #67 1 year ago

You mean I had my post moderated and spent two days in Pinside Prison biting my nails waiting to get back into the whale finder thread and you close the thread?! Come on man! That whale was just around the corner. We weren’t joking on you, we were joking with you. All the press that it was getting was only going to help your cause. Reopen immediately!

    #68 1 year ago

    Great. Now it’s mega investor.

    #69 1 year ago

    Guys!

    This time, it’s DIFFERENT!

We have an even more niche theme, that doesn’t attract location operators OR home buyers, let alone the people that actually put money into machines on location, and our alchy friend from the great white north is backing it all with double speak! What could go wrong?!? Sounds rock solid!

    I’m SOLD!!!1!

(I’m not into shattering dreams, but jfc, anybody that hands over $ for this venture would be better off lighting their cash on fire, and probably deserves a punch in the mouth)

    BUT I’M (deep)ROOTING FOR YOU!

    #70 1 year ago

Jesus , what made him think pinside was his honey hole ? I would think if he’s this much into pinball he’d have games to sell to fund this adventure ?

    #71 1 year ago

Has it been confirmed if JPop is involved for going to be approached as the designer?
John has always stated that JPop just needed good management.

    #72 1 year ago

Just not enticing enough for me. I want to see concept whitewoods for Redburn, White Jacket, Enchanted Isles, and Pierre before I’m gonna be convinced they really have something here.

    #73 1 year ago

With the IP revealed and John still hunting whale(s), what if a shark gobbles up the license a la American and Sonic?

    #74 1 year ago

    EDIT

    #75 1 year ago

And here i was thinking he must have almost locked in by the legal pulling a tap dancing rabbit out of the hat the rights to a Mickey Mouse pin Disney can't do Jack sh** to stop or with the work of the musician named Prince the way he boasted about his mystery pin.

    #76 1 year ago

I'm watching Trailer Park Boys right now start to finish.

I don’t have this kind of money, but I do have plenty of duct tape for a Red Green Show pin.

    #84 1 year ago

greatwichjohn I know you said you have a lot of people with different manufacturing abilities to make this happen. However, do you really think you can design a playable pin, get the art done, have all the electronics and coding finished, and assemble a functioning machine in 6 months?

Even if you get the money you seek, it seems like lofty expectations to me. 18 months, maybe. But 6?

    Cheers!

Not to worry, if it doesn’t work out (per post 65) there is always plan B.

    #86 1 year ago

I think this whole thing is some kind of meta-narrative.

Rather than going after one big investor, let's instead go after lots of little investors.....

    #87 1 year ago

He doesn't need 100k to build a one off homebrew TPB machine.

    Or it DIES!

Yes it can be done in 6 months: September 2022 - March 2023 to be shipped in time for SXSW & TPF. If the lone big investor is found this month, it will start early. There is a lot of good stuff ready to go with series, & the game will likely be a very adult themed pin with the language & other stuff going on. Rob Berk keeps asking if I am going to Expo this year, I will if the big investor is found this month.

    #89 1 year ago

that's it, i'm changing my screenname to Mega-Investor. You convinced me.

    *Sorry, Mini-Whale.

Not saying John can pull this off but Joe balcer, jim Thornton, Jeff bush and I, with a bit of help with assembly, took Houdini from nothing more than a title to having three fully playable prototypes at a show in four months. We were working looooong days, six, seven days a week for a good chunk of it. Of course Joe and Jim had been involved in start-ups before and we’re very well connected with vendors. I had a done a machine from scratch, so we had a lot of expertise and experience. Still, everything had to go right and and we did not have a flipping machine until a few days before the show.

I have yet to meet anyone in the industry who was not shocked by what we did, considering we started with basically nothing. John has 8 months, so twice the time, so anything is possible, but I would certainly not bet on it.

Twice the time for John, but also being in canada and covid things working against him..... Do we believe in miracles?

Most of us bet against Gene/BBB, but we got to see pigs fly! Lesser dreams have come true.

It can be done with myself (build) & a team of others that have their own areas of expertise. Lots of interest in Canada & USA to see a TPB pin built. Hopefully put on the line somewhere like American Pinball in the future, or with another party. If not there is Plan C which people can guess on.

Not sure why they would lock this thread. It's a pre-TPB club pin thread
