Also it might be helpful to remember who is paying the bills on the space because that person is the boss. Stayed differently, don’t argue or confront the boss, it never ends the way you think it should.

Avi got the operator going today. He almost got a permanent ban from the operator from the workshop. [quoted image]

Ok wait, so GWJ is cooking food on a hot plate inches from highly combustible material, drinking 6-8 beers daily from the pop machine and watching porn on his lunch breaks and somehow AVI did something to set the operator off?? I can't wait to hear this story...

    #9353 1 year ago

Yes Avi got the operator hot under the collar. I service & help move his stuff so I am spared or given more lee way. Operator likely was the master of his own demise, but easy to blame someone else. Avi survived the puffers, & a few of us opened the door a little bit at times. We played about 6 different games, & I showed him the bus back. I hope he made it back to his parents ok. I will be at the workshop doing a bunch of wiring this weekend, unless the BMW freeloader drives me nuts. Tell him he has a players condition IJ, & do not waste spending any more on it. Sell it for a reasonable price & move on with your life.

Contrary to popular belief here I do not watch VHS porn everyday or read mags. Likely been a month since I relaxed with some porn, since there is still too much crap in my work area. Beer count was 7, stopped at a brewery with Avi to use the can. So I bought a porter, & Olands at the shop, & 5 Bud cans at the social.

    Why is Avi in trouble?

It’s very rare. Admittedly rarer then a blue moon that I’d ever talk poorly about anyone but I’m a little more uncomfortable then usual...... Today was going great admittedly. I made a bezel (albeit a very shitty version) for the arcade with Bristol board. I’m pretty well almost done with the LED / Rubber kit for the motor dome I was doing for GWJ. The operator was there today and it was all was well. We went out to princess auto ect. Anyways the Operator is working on this one arcade machine. It ‘was’ A golden tee but we couldn’t figure out the trackball which wasn’t working so He’s turning it into a regular one player cabinet. During his ‘modification’ of the control panel. He fucked up and cracked the plexiglass right off the CP by screwdriving through it. albeit it was super old and brittle and from the 80s so Sall good. I suggested he replaced it but he didn’t want to. I suggested that I’d have a metal piece for a CP made so there wouldn’t be any random holes. He didn’t want to do that. He fucked up drilling the hole and metal started to burst outwards from the drill bit. I suggested he use the palm sander to make the surface of the CP even so the screws would sit flat because of the metal bursting. And I suggested he drilled through the corner of the plastic arcade stick since it was uneven. I guess he mistook my words because he thought I told him to make a hold through the joystick with a palm sander. like that makes fucking sense. So anyways I told him I didn’t. And it was a back and forth. things calmed down and it was like whatever. 10-15 minutes later dude pipes up from the nut gallery corner and says if I piss him off again I’m permanently banned and doesn’t talk to me at all the rest of the night. I sent him a message And he was just in a pissy mood still. Ruined my whole night. I’ve known the fucking dude for close to a decade. I always enjoyed his company and his help but I don’t know. I’m not sure I feel comfortable going around there anymore but maybe I’m just out of it. Didn’t even stay for the pinball social.

I don’t get it. Even GWJ was confused. like Jesus Christ

    #9355 1 year ago

If you’re going to fucking work on someone else’s machine do it right. Admittedly a lot of shit could be said for work on my own machine at the workshop but at least I’m doing the best I can. I’m not avoiding shit out of laziness.

That’s my rant done with. If the operator sees this oh well. I probably won’t be a reoccurring cast member anymore.

It’s not even about that man. Money o has never meant anything to me. That’s why I don’t mind buying stuff for GWJ. I extend the same to everyone I know. Even the guys I just met from the pinball community. The fact that he got that pissed off over something so minor. enough to the point he would’ve just kicked me out is what bothers me. I try to extend myself out to him and do absolutely everything I can to make sure that he’s good. I always offer to bring stuff to him on our way to the workshop. I looked upto him. That’s the fucking issue. not the dumb ass bills.

    #9357 1 year ago

I suspected this even before your post. Your the apprentice. As hard as it is you gotta let the teacher fuck up. Hopefully you both end up learning something. The operator is the boss and one of the things they don’t like is being told how to do things when it’s not going right. Sometimes you can squeeze a suggestion in if done tactfully. This is something I am aware of from both sides of the isle…

    #9358 1 year ago

Don't let it stress you, Avi. Sounds like the guy was angry/annoyed/embarrassed about how he was messing up the machine and took it out on you rather than own his own screwups. And sounds like the type of guy who doesn't like to take advice when he's in that kind of mood. So if stick around the office and he's like this again, probably just let him be rather than trying to offer help. Because he's not in a state to receive it.

    #9361 1 year ago

Another day, & like I always say Avi is more than welcome to work in my congested area of the workshop. He is doing a good job on the Motordome. Just got to stick it out hopefully & keep learning about pinball repair & service work. If he can then he could likely transverse into a broader area than just vids. No one is really interested in doing work for pinball owners, except for a few of us in my huge area. When the operator has a blow out, you just try to move forward. Avi got some more wires ready for the weekend.

How come you are reusing decades old wires instead of just buying new spools of wire? Especially since someone else is paying?

What's the new deadline you think it'll be flipping by?

Yes you got to have priorities after you slave away all your life, & want to enjoy your retirement a little before you croak off! Moved Avi's vid so I can cook my Bob's bacon for breakfast, have my Hungarian Salami with free rolls for lunch, & my tips for supper. Standby to see a lot of used wires installed today unless more locals come in to drink. The finished playfield will get new wiring, & some other replacement parts like the poor coil that got abused.

Considering how many separate orders were made (ie separate shipping fees), him having spent $4k or more doesn’t sound far fetched.

Homebrew is expensive without a donor game.

It is a thing of beauty or not. Yes shipping, & tax into Canada takes its toll. Along with paypal fees, & beer donations. Got to place another small order this week for another driver board for the coils. Avi will likely be back this week, he needs a good weekend off from all the drama. Bacon was good! vdojaq got the boot, he is sending up some jackets. Thanks! Got the heaters on at the shop. xmas tree lots are being set up here, & lucky not to have any snow yet.

    #9371 1 year ago

Here is a rough example of what has been spent, although this doesn’t include a few different things either

And keep in mind, a few hundred was spent on shipping.

Meh pinside doesn’t like my PDF for some reason. But I spent over $2500 in just one quick pass looking at John’s game and PBL

Then why did you put such a tight timeline on this build from the start??? Did you decide after the build started that life is short and the pin is not a priority?

Your words and actions are a constant contradiction.

But I'm glad you are enjoying life!

It’s a prototype build currently so I think the use of old wires is just for the sake of keeping the costs down so more might be able to be pumped into a retail version. Besides GWJ has a bunch of wiring harness’s around he isn’t using. Why not reuse them?

Also I get the point of deadlines but aren’t you guys depressing yourselves when the deadline isn’t met? Just my thought, you shouldn’t think of any deadline except the one at the end of the goal.

    #9376 1 year ago

It’s not my project or money, I could care less about deadlines. We’re just friends in a work shop talking friendly shit.

    #9377 1 year ago

    John

You owe us nothing. The only one you are accountable to is Ice. However, I went back and thread the first few pages on this thread, and you were begging for a investors....multiple posts each day from you.

You never got one, but did get a mini whale. I'm curious.

If you did say find someone who was willing to invest 100k in a game, would the plan for the build have been the same, or has things changed with just Ice's 10k?

Its not depressing. Its mildly frustrating that many of us pointed out from the beginning that the timeline was overly ambitious and GWJ refuted us every time. Either way, this thread is not really about the pin anymore, so it's all good.

I suppose so. I still think the thread is about the pin. We’re just at a point of filler episodes with characters you like and dislike.

    #9381 1 year ago

Some people are so preoccupied in chasing a dream, they fail to consider the realities. At its imaginary conclusion, they envision themselves on a stage accepting awards and praise. Little consideration is given to the actual work to be done.
This is the folly of a napkin plan.

Get going, John, I'm not against you.

    #9382 1 year ago

Just got back from picking up bottles of pop to keep the fridge full & some tissues. The iron is hot & the pile of wires is standing by today. Got lots of windex & paper towel to clean the grill. The weekend is usually quieter here mostly by myself. Maybe the porn will be put to use. Yes things would of been much different with a lone $100k US investor. Happy to have my mini whale investor the coach funding this journey, maybe to hell or not. The religious young people were blasting their stuff on the street next to the Bus Terminal. Then I got the old guy pressing me to take a flyer. Said no save the paper & printing. He still wanted to argue with me, I said I was enjoying the religious blast from the speaker, & he finally got the hint when I moved out of the shelter. Got some more cotton swabs on wooden sticks. The smaller long ones I break to use for cooking on the grill. Cost just over a penny each, usually come in a bag but the carry bottle is nice! princess Auto is like Harbor Freight in the USA. Got some cheap $5 lights for vid marques, & I forgot to pick up hand cleaner (thanks to Avi & the operator pointing that out at the shop). The pump jug of cleaner is cut open to get the rest out.

The only character I had any dislike for was the Operator who I felt (and still do) was taking extreme advantage of John. But since I have come to realize the symbiotic relationship that is going on. And your little fracas the other day confirmed it.

As the Operator who has cared for his golden goose to great benefit suddenly has to provide support and tolerance to a newcomer who has yet prove his worth and find his place I would have reacted similarly.

Avi you need to look for any way possible to be an asset in that shop if you hope to have a future there. Your currently riding John’s coattails and just found out how far that’s going to get you.

Not trying offend by keeping this going but I really don’t think you understand why all that happened. From our perspective you are a huge asset to that shop. The trick now is to get that Operator character to realize it…

Did you add in the 6 burnt bulbs and dirty old playfield rubber from the 2nd picture in post #9364?

    #9385 1 year ago

The much overlooked detail is that Coach would probably pay the couple hundred bucks for the shop during the build so you could focus on building it. No more side jobs interfering with the 2023 goal.

Avi, the operator was an ass to you but trust me when I say, he will not be the last. They're a dime a dozen in life so buckle up.
And believe it or not, there are valuable life lessons to take away from failure and negativity. Look for them and benefit.

I made a donation to Pinside in your name which will allow you some extra benefits here. Its official now, you are one of us.

The operator does not want Avi really doing anything for him. The last thing he wants to do is pay someone else. I get about 40% of the workshop & power bill share by helping out the operator with his stuff. So it does not cost me anything except my time, & my wife is happy to have me gone most of the day. Just getting ready for the wiring after the local BMW guy showed up. Move more stuff around & cook him up the rest of the bob's bacon. These guys like using the whitewood as a place to dump stuff on. Avi is asked to remove the Motordome stuff before going home, or store his stuff & my tools back. Slow learning curve for the younger guys & now Richard the BMW premium sports car guy with no money looking for a job. Almost like having the poorer & nastier version of Kaneda at the workshop for entertainment.

Im sincerely grateful for your generosity but I feel a bit guilty. I by no means was trying to make feel sorry for me to the point they would’ve felt the need to purchase something for me. I’ll try to return the money back sooner then later.

And yeah the operator use to be more adaptive. I can only drill it into his head that I will sincerely work for free for him so many times. It’s not like i have anything else

Yeah i definitely shouldn't of went on that rant last night briefly but it's already out there so sall good. At the end of the day I still care dearly to be friends with the operator even though i personally believed he was being a bit of an ass. But from his point of view i was probably being an ass. I just wish he wouldn't of equated my side with being a 'kid'.. Dude has admitted i know more about some shit then he does.. And obviously he knows more about some shit then me.

This exactly. I don't care if it actually gets done or not (because I'm probably in the small group that thinks it will never be finished).

I wouldn't throw shade about deadlines if GWJ hadn't kept setting them and blowing right through them.

Apologies. I may of misspoken. If GWJ himself is setting the deadlines then i'm a dummie and forget entirely what i said. I had the impression it was more as though GWJ was being pressured into making deadlines. That's on me.

No worries Avi, like Trey said it's mostly harmless poking. GWJ came off really strong in the start and I think has had to realize a lot of that just wasn't true or feasible. Scope underestimation happens to everyone.

    #9399 1 year ago

For the record again I do not blame anyone else but myself for missing deadlines. Things are moving along, & the operator continues on with his version. So Avi just needs to let it go & move forward. IJ madness & torture going on. Keep telling Mr BMW he his the master of his own destiny! Time to start drinking beer #1.No sooner said then Mr BMW with no money is into the beer.
