Quoted from TreyBo69:I used to say alley pass but so many say shatz it has stuck in my mind. Also shatz is a fun monosyllabic sound
I have been in the pinball hobby since 1974 (When I bought my first pinball machine) and was an active participant in the birth of the hobby. I remember when there was only a handful of pinball enthusiasts who would rack up high long distance phone bills (“Toll” calls) from the 1970s through to the early 1980s, just talking about pinball. I played competitive pinball from the 1980s until the middle 1990s and attended most pinball shows. I never heard of anybody else doing the move or mentioning seeing the move done by other players. Provenance goes a long way here.
My issue is that with all I have contributed to pinball over the years, that one of my best contributions is attributed to someone else. That’s wrong IMO and I will point out the history of the alley pass every time I see the term “Shatz”, till the day I die! Maybe I will never eradicate the term, but at least people will learn a little pinball history. (No other pinball skill is given an attribution)
