Williams does NOT want you messing with code.

If you locked coils and started fires, they would not be amused.

#132 10 years ago
Quoted from copperpot:

Yeah, you aren't wrong, and it's not likely, but a girl can dream, right?
-Wes

Usually when someone does ANY mod to a Williams ROM, they get a letter.

Notice you don't see "Divide by 10" on the web for download, even though it is a much needed mod.

#196 10 years ago

Williams does NOT approve of CCC, so any remake of CC is not going to have CCC in it.

If you add CCC to a remade CC, you are going to need the P-roc processor board, and a few P-roc driver boards & probably some adapter cables.

#241 10 years ago
Quoted from QuarterGrabber:

I thought they couldn't do Monster Bash? I thought they could only re-make original themes?

Universal Monsters is a super easy license to get.

They have shoes, facial tissue, paper plates, you name it, licensed from them.

If you think about it, "Universal Monsters" have not made a movie since 1960 - so that is a lot of successful licensing deals around that kids still know who the characters are today; 50 years latter .

#246 10 years ago

License holders WANT to issue licenses. That's how they make money.

Look how all the internet *experts* said CPR would not be able to afford to make the Marlyn Monroe Taxi playfields; yet not only did they do it, they were not any more money than other playfields.

#252 10 years ago
Quoted from PPS:

we probably need something else in there to make it look 'busy' ... maybe some backbox 'wall paper' to make it look like it's crammed with electrical components ...

How about an LCD monitor inside the backbox, behind the tub, that would let us display different Williams boards complete with connector burn on the GI?

#562 10 years ago

I don't see why everyone is so worried about the LEDs on a board thing.

You don't throw out your AFM saucer board when one of the LEDs breaks from a direct ball hit.

#670 10 years ago
Quoted from sb80:

Are there currently any pictures of the prototype game anywhere?

Quoted from rosh:

P-ROC has hardware interfaces to Williams and Stern boards (and their own boards). Won't work with this unless that interface gets created, which won't happen. You could always completely re-wire the game to use one of the other board sets, as well as re-create ALL of the code, oh, and then you have to be careful with what you do with it, so you don't violate the copywrite of the sounds, images, etc. So, bottom line, never going to happen.

Every time somebody says "never" in regard to a MM remake, they turn out to be wrong.

#996 10 years ago
Quoted from Nilroc:

I'm no expert on the inner workings of a pinball machine but can someone out there tell me the design is better than the Vacation America playfield pictured below.

The less wires and interconnects the better from a troubleshooting / reliability standpoint.

So the MMr is NOT a better design than the Vacation America.

But, the MMr is still a better design than the original MM.

#998 10 years ago
Quoted from Frax:

So.....is that really one HUGE green PCB in the center of the playfield, with two holes in it for the troll mechs? That looks like it would be a total PITA (and expensive) to replace instead of repair one SMT LED.....

LEDs rarely burn out. Look at the 35 year old VCR you still have plugged in for some reason; it has been on 24/7 and the LEDs are still lit.

Even the #44 LEDs, when I open them to see why they "burned out", it is just the lamp wire is no longer soldered to the resistor, the LED itself is still good.

When the time comes to replace a burned out SMT LED, everyone will get their cherry broken and then post about their successes.

I'll bet the replace 5 of those driver transistors before a LED goes bad.

#1030 10 years ago
Quoted from SteveP3:

Wow I'm no expert but I'm guessing using a single enormous (main) PCB under the playfield was probably an expensive decision. Makes me wonder about repairing it in the future also, looks like a pain having to remove that behemoth to replace a single component.

It looks like just the LED lamps are on that giant circuit board, so they can burn for decades before needing service.

The driver boards look well placed for servicing.

#1033 10 years ago
Quoted from Frax:

I'm not worried about their parts and labor, I'm worried about how easy it's going to be to fracture a trace when that mofo flexes on accident when we're removing it to clean inserts or replace a popped LED. Granted, as few traces as there actually appear to be in that board, toning it out will be simple and so will be running a jumper, but then we're right back to wires aren't we.

How often do you have to fix a trace on the giant light board under AFM?

I've reflowed maybe 2 headers in my entire life.

#1079 10 years ago

Really, every pinhead should have an EM in their collection.

Less repairs than SS/DMD .

#1134 10 years ago

When Doom3D conversion came out, I pulled my old Doom disks out and installed a floppy drive.

The discs would no longer read.

They were stored in a floppy disk case on a shelf above my desk.

Quoted from metallik:

Where did you get the drive?

The Shamwow costs Vince just .34 cents landed in the USA, and he sells them for $20.

He also test marketed them at $15 and $25, but $20 was the highest number that most consumers would pay.

Is he lining his pockets, or providing you a nice towel to soak up your wine spills?

Quoted from extraballingtmc:

He's just a spokesman

No, he really owns the company.

#1685 10 years ago

Who cares about any of this?

Why does Stern or JJP have to be brought up in every other post about MMr?

If you want a new version of MM, put your $1000 down now.

If you want to wait until you can play it first, wait.

If you don't want it, don't buy it.

#1698 10 years ago

A MMr sale does NOT mean that Stern lost any market share at all.

Just because someone buys a MMr does NOT mean they would have bought a Stern or any other brand pin, new or used.

For example: I have a client that ordered a MMr who was otherwise "done buying pins" (he had 2 and that was enough for him).

#1710 10 years ago
Quoted from vid1900:

A MMr sale does NOT mean that Stern lost any market share at all.

Quoted from rosh:

Of course it does. X pins sold, they got Y of X.

Nope, you are not thinking it all the way through:

1. Let's say I'm done buying pins. I'm not looking to buy any more. I have one title I loved when I was in college and that's enough for me (Twilight Zone). I have not played any new games since the 90s, since there are none on route around me.

2. Now I hear that I can own a classic, Medieval Madness, brand new. I liked the game in college, but it was too much money to ever buy used. I like the idea of brand new, and so does my wife, as the TZ needs service often.

3. I buy a MMr as it's my only chance to own a classic Williams pinball brand new.

4. Stern did not lose a sale, as I've never even considered buying a Stern.

#1904 10 years ago

Rick is smart.

He's going to dole out snippets of information, spread out nicely, so that he can keep the conversations going and this thread on the front page.

He is keeping us informed on a regular basis much better than the other manufacturers.

Stay tuned.

Quoted from BestShot31:

This may have been brought up before, but MM should have always been a widebody machine. Why not consider doing a truly limited widebody version with a slightly redesigned playfield, maybe extra targets or just more openess?

There was a guy in Europe that converted his MM to a widebody format.

His site is down but I'll try and find the siterip when I'm at home.

Remember when we all used to replace the SMD LEDs in our cell phones to bling them out and make the screens light up blue?

These LEDs will be much larger and easier to work with!

They only do that in North Korea.

Totally illegal here in the Conservative States of America.

it wasn't that long ago that people putting LEDs in pins was oddball.

It still is on RGP.

They laugh at your LEDs and aftermarket toppers.

#2183 10 years ago

RGP should be called RGF - 90% of their posts are about Frank.

I never see his posts unless someone quotes him.

He was Plonked long ago.

Off topic:

What does RGP look like with no Frank posts?

Nice, and very clean.

Quoted from BC_Gambit:

I don't go back often, but it is amazing how much traffic slowed down post google groups repeatedly sucking...

Much better to use than Google Groups, and it has built in image hosting that everyone can see:

They can change the LED timing in the software easily.

Who knows, by the time it's out they could have 3 ramp up settings, fast LED style, med, or slow incandescent style.

#3122 10 years ago
Quoted from TaTa:

Was this green lighting used on the original?

Many repo moats are not very translucent and thus you don't get the good green effect.

Obviously PPS is using quality reproductions and thus the green is quite evident.

Quoted from Luke_Nukem:

Screw production for 2 days and just come to Allentown

With setup and teardown, delivering games to the local freight depot picking up the games at the destination freight depot, then returning them to the depot, and finally picking them back up locally, you are looking at at least a week of downtime - probably more.

#3613 9 years ago

For $8,000 let's just have real brass trim.

It will never wear off or peel and people can brag about what brand brass polish they use on it.

#3626 9 years ago
Quoted from o-din:

Would that be solid brass or brass plating?

Solid brass, plating could wear off - accelerated by the acids in your sweat.

Note how Chinese guitars have all the brass plating wear off anywhere your skin touches them.

Solid brass guitar hardware will last hundreds of years.

#3628 9 years ago
Quoted from o-din:

Well isn't that what most people thought they were going to get? If Williams could do it, how hard can it be?

Brass has tripled in price since the Williams days.

(although so did the price of MM, so it might be the same difference)

Bending thin gauge brass for the side rails is easy for anyone with a Metal Brake, but the lockdown bar has to be stamped in a press.

#3686 9 years ago

It can't ship with no trim or the glass would break.

Here are some nice looking, real brass rails and lockdowns to drool over:

Not worth it for the 5 people who'd be interested.

I'll take 3, as long as the playfields are unpopulated.

Quoted from yonizzell:

Here is part of his response when I asked if I could get my deposit back:
"I had to commit to so many machines and pay for them when people order the game. So I'm kind of stuck with it - my order was placed based on your order and we do have a no cancellation policy which is stated on your invoice. "

OK, so if you signed a contract that said "NO CANCELLATIONS" then why are you surprised when no cancellations are allowed?

I believe a real man keeps his word.

You agreed to no cancellations, so man up and buy your game when it comes in.

It's awful quiet right now regarding the PPS MMr.
Kind of eerie. Maybe that's the quiet before the storm.

What the hell are you talking about?

PPS has been the loudest of any pin manufacturer ever, with the most updates and even open houses to look at the goods.
