It boosts the color saturation and makes them look so much better. Conversely, yellow inserts should NOT be color matched. A yellow LED beneath a yellow inserts ends up looking kind of drab. I happen to think yellow inserts look best with cool white LEDs, but some people prefer warm white. As far as white/clear inserts, I think cool white is definitely the way to go. It gives them a nice crisp, modern look.
