Very happy to be joining the MMr club, finally! I’m buying a HUO standard with color DMD and shaker. Ships tomorrow...knock on wood...so next week at this time I should be battling dragons and rescuing damsels! When my wife and I first started getting into pinball 10 years ago, this was the game she enjoyed most. And I agree with the above post about Lermods wizard mod with the led crystal ball. I actually liked that mod so much, I bought one weeks ago in anticipation of someday owning one of these.

MM is still on top at #1 after all these years. Very excited to be joining the club!

Nearly 2 years after I let the #1 ranked game of all time leave my collection, for some reason, I finally brought it back just in time for my son to storm the castle. This quickly became his favorite.

This game is just awesome. Having so much fun adding mods and a little bling to it. I’m considering a midnight blue candy/powder coat also. I’m adding the LED strips behind the castle tomorrow. I added speaker lights today, but need to adjust them so the wire isn’t showing. Still looks fantastic. I love the wizard mod with the blue crystal ball in his hand. So many cool mods for an already loaded game!

Quoted from glpinball:

Whats everyone doing to prevent wear around the flipper buttons?

I like the rounded protectors from Marco. They are a little thicker and larger. They cost more, $8 a pair. Pinball Life has the smaller rectangular ones for $3 or so. I’ve used those too. Either will protect that area from kid fingers or dirt. Whenever I buy a game that isn’t new, I change the flipper buttons too. Lots of colors to pick from or you can choose clear and put LEDs behind them. I use needle nose pliers to grab and turn the flipper button pal-nut holding them on. Pretty easy to change them. Have fun!

Is it me, or are the playfields used by CGC superior to some other newly released pins? My AFMr built in 2020 feels like glass, and my MMr built in 2017 still looks and feels almost new. My MM has about 1200 plays and not a bit of visible wear in the shooter lane or anywhere. I’ve had other brands this year, that with 100 plays the shooter lane showed wear, even with the trough power reduced way down. I’m very impressed with CGC build quality!

Quoted from gorditas:

The trolls have evidently been practicing their shot put. Nice catch, Dragon.
[quoted image]

Nice catch! They make a little plastic that goes over the dragon for that rare occasion. I have an extra one if you’d like me to mail it to you. No charge.

Quoted from Medic:

Does anyone know where I can buy a topper?Preferably at msrp price? Thanks

Check KingPinGames. They had some for $599.99. I’m not sure if they still do. If they are sold out, there is one other person who had a couple for the same $600 price. I bought one last month. If KingPin is sold out I’ll message you his contact info. He may be sold out too, I’m not sure.

Happy Thanksgiving!!! My 3 year old grandson shows up at 11:30 am, promptly fires up my MMrRE, jumps on the stool, and goes at it!!!!
Good times!!

That’s awesome! My son just turned 3 and is a pinball wizard himself! He just discovered TAF and is getting good at it. He loves MM, CV, CSI and his fav is MB!

Quoted from mtp78:

Just curious how fun this game is in a collection. I had a Afmr le and got bored fast and sold it with no regrets. Any feedback appreciated

I agree with Northvibe that AFM and MM have many similarities. I’ve owned MM twice, and the first time it lasted just a few weeks. Later I appreciated what a classic MM is, with one of the best toys ever. I added AFM and MB soon after that. I love all 3, but I’m careful not to play each one too often, maybe a few games each week. I don’t think I could play AFM or MM daily and not overdue it. Both are among the best pins ever made, imho. If I had to choose only one, MM would get the slight nod.

Add a $3 AFM sticker from RedBubble and you’ve got a fancy drink holder for $15.

Quoted from bicyclenut:

Question, I have an MMR LE and noticed that the coin door lights are really dim. I replaced them with Comet LED bulbs but then they dont work. I put the others back in and they work but are very dimly lit. Is this normal? Are all the Remakes this way?
Thank you for any help

Be careful of the voltage on AFMr and MMr coin door leds. I believe they are 12v on the door, but double check that. I bought my MMr and it had a 6.3v bulb that was partly melted in the socket. I removed it and replaced with a 13v bulb and it works fine. Just make sure you don't put 6.3v bulbs in a 12-13v socket. I was very surprised they weren't 6.3 like most doors are.

#9049 2 years ago
Quoted from glpinball:

Could be one of those stupid bayonet bulbs.

I think the wedge bulbs are the ones with 2 exposed wires. Sometimes wedge sockets get pushed apart and need replacing, but prob not on MMr. Bayonet have the metal base with 2 little nubs.

For those of you who have installed the metal Cliffy protectors that go around the wizard scoop, is it a big job to install? I took a quick look and it seems I’ll have to remove the right ramp and it’s quite an undertaking to install that steel Cliffy.

#9201 2 years ago

Finally installed my topper today. Took me 2-3 hours, it was surprisingly involved. I had to drill the holes for the topper wiring harness and mounting bolts. Turned out nicely. It’s a great mod even unlit, but the integrated lightshow is impressive.

Crazy how much technology has changed since the 90’s. 90’s WPC on the left versus CGCr on the right. Impressive.

Quoted from marioparty34:

Hello All,
I just picked up a MMR and super excited to be in the club. I am familiar with adding additional lighting via the Comet Matrix system, but how do I do that with MMR?
What do I need to buy in order to add some spot lights, etc?
Thanks!

Congrats! I added Comet lamps to mine on each sling, connected to GI with alligator clips. I also put an LED under the wizard scoop, with the same method.

Quoted from Oaken:

she asks me to get the step stool so she can start a 4 player game and play 1 ball each.

Exactly what my son did last year when he was 2. He started 4 player games and would get down mid-game and move to another pin and do the same. I try to get him to finish his game now. He likes GB, FT, and the Elviras.

Quoted from brickbuilder14:

oh wow thanks! So it means I need to screw into the playfield? Or should I just get the one without the screw hole...
[quoted image]

Mine doesn’t have the screw on the left into the playfield. Great mod/protector.

Quoted from brickbuilder14:

Thank you! One more question... Which is the easiest way to light up the Merlin hole? Thanks

I used the Comet Pinball matrix system to connect LEDs by alligator clips and placed them under Merlin, under the apron and added two lamps above each slingshot.

#9359 1 year ago
Quoted from brickbuilder14:

Thanks, do you remember which type of light you used? A strip? A single light?

I like to use a short strip for the trough, and single lamps above the playfield. Under the playfield, under scoops or certain mechs, I like to use the star post LED clusters, because they usually have 4 or so LEDs. They are also flat, and fairly easy to affix to the underside of the playfield. I usually use painters tape to hold the light under the scoop. Usually stays in place for years. There are so many options for adding lighting to your pins, you can get creative and try different things.

Quoted from brickbuilder14:

Does anyone know what type of screw goes here? Thanks
[quoted image]

I used a very short little flat head there, and it worked great. It doesn’t take much to hold that mod in place.

Are there 2 screws on the left side of the flipper coil? Trying to find where your screw came from. I think both are there, just one is in a shadow.

Quoted from jrcmlc:

Is there a no bs comparison opinion available between the remake and OG? I thought I had a really nice OG bought, but that went to crap, so exploring all options.

I own several 90’s Bally/WMS pins and all 4 CGCs remakes. I personally really enjoy the feel of the OG 90’s era pins. The flippers just shoot great and feel so solid. I also really like CGC pins. I can’t imagine a different company remaking a pin 25+ years later and doing a better job than CGC. I do find the single most obvious difference is the flipper feel. They are just…different. Nothing wrong with CGC flippers. They do tend to have a shorter “throw,” for you manual transmission fans. I believe this is due to the end of stroke design, which can be altered to more closely resemble the OG feel. In the AFMr thread a year or two ago, it’s discussed in detail. But having owned MBr twice, MMr twice, and both AFMr and CCr, don’t miss out on a good deal for a MM, whether it’s OG or remake, they both rock. It’s a classic and a keeper for sure.
