About to get my MMR Standard, do they make a playfield protector for it? If so, where can I buy it and do folks recommend it.

Thanks

#2433 6 years ago

Thanks LTG for the link. @lermods, I’d th protector you have different than the one on the link LTG put above?

I have Cliffys coming also, did not know I needed both them and Mantis!

Can I play a few dozen games before installing all this, not sure I can wait

#2437 6 years ago

Thanks aukraut, I have the Mantis protectors on order! How much time to put these and the Cliffys on for a fairly newbie?

LTG , how do those two protectors differ and to you recommend one over the other? Or do feel the protector is not needed or makes play worse? This is my first NIB game and will be a HUO game I own forever.

Thanks much to all of you, what an awesome resource you all are!!!

Thanks all for the help!

Thanks @gunstarhero, I am passing on the playfield protector for now, will do cliffys/mantis and a few spots of mylar as recommended.

I get my machine Wednesday, it is my first NIB pin! Do I need to clean and wax before playing my first game?

Sorry if these questions have been asked before, and yes I am a newbie!

1. I received the two parts in the below image with my NIB MMr, anyone know what they are?
2. Along with a micro SD card with 2.0.1 software I received a ROM and ROM puller, am I supposed to replace a ROM? Which one and why?

Thanks much!

Thanks LTG for the quick reply! I checked my version and you were right, the machine came with 2.0.2 on it.

I am curious what is on the ROM that I need to replace and if it might solve an issue I am having?
The issue is that when the ball goes in Merlins hole, it often does not eject out, it doesn't even try to pop the ball out even though the machine makes the sound like it is trying. Sometimes the ball ejects after 3-5 attempts (based on the sound, no movement), but often the machine has to go into ball search to kick it out. This happens more than 50% of the time and seriously slows the game down.

Thanks for any help, I can upload a video if needed.

Your quick replies are amazing, I really appreciate it!!! OK, glad I asked, I bought the color upgrade at the same time I bought my machine and the company I bought it from did the color upgrade for me, so this chip must be the original.

Thanks for the tip on the kick out, I will try that tomorrow and let you know if that helps.

Have a great evening,
Mike

BTW, here is a link to a short video showing the issue -

Do you think the washer trick will solve this?

Thanks,
Mike

#2824 6 years ago

Great, will try both tomorrow.

Thanks again!

A while back (post #2818) I asked about an issue I was having with the ball not being ejected out of Merlin's hole. LTG had a good suggestion to put a washer between the bracket and playfield on the left side of Merlin's hole, lowering it a little so the ball sits in there better and kicks out better. I tried that but still had the issue (thanks much LTG for the suggestion though).

Pinsider member thePLAyNone messaged me and said he had a similar issue and resolved it by disconnecting the board that all the coils connect to... the small board on the right hand side of the big board under the playfield ( 4 screws, pull it all the way off), and reconnect it. Well, I am lazy so I just unplugged and reconnected all the plugs to the different coils in that area. That was over a week ago and 50+ game plays and the problem is solved!!!

Just wanted to share this in case others have the same issue, and to thank thePlayNone for the suggestion!

Cheers,
Mike

Quoted from LTG:

They are working on an upgrade kit for this.
No idea if more MMRs are planned. With or without the bigger screen.
LTG : )

I had not heard this was for sure, was it recently announced there will be an upgrade kit?

Quoted from LTG:

I was told at TPF that testing was complete. Then make up instructions and packaging. At least a couple months.
No idea on cost or what is all included.
LTG : )

Can't wait!
