Quoted from roscoepinball:

Pulled the 4 screws on the Blue driver card - pulled the card and reseated it. They're pretty long pins and appear to be seated quite well in the socket.
Thought it was fixed but just happened again tonight. Both flippers just dead. Multiball had just started and the shaker was going pretty good. I have the tilt bob wrapped, so it didnt tilt. Anything else I should take a look at LTG ?
Side question - my LE appears to have all of the Royal upgrades. RGB GI, Large color DMD, Topper. Speakers are single color blue - are the mode aware speaker lights a separate upgrade? Thanks in advance!

There is a Keypost I can find later too, but it shows how to get your speakers to change rgb. It’s like moving a pin over on a plug

Awesome - thanks northvibe.

I need to swap out driver boards tonight to see what's going on - will probably pull and reseat every single connection under the playfield and in the cabinet+backbox. It travelled across the US to me, so there's a solid change something is loose. Just need to track it down starting with switching the driver boards per LTG

This is all a HUGE help. We’re going on vacation day after tomorrow so all this troubleshooting and the RGB speakers is going to have to wait until we return. Will probably do the RGB pops as well because why the heck not. I may just read this entire sub on the plane. I suspect there’s a ton of gold here.

RGB speaker is easy and worthwhile mod for sure! the pops I have the parts but haven't done it yet.

I have a new to me MMr Standard. I brought it home and the right slight shot, lower jet bumper, and castle solenoid do not work in play or test. I reseated all connectors, checked the continuity of all the wires and checked the driving Mosfets. The odd coincidence I found is that they are all driven by MOSFET Q2 on each one of the 3 driver boards. I don’t know if that could point me in the right direction. I’m stumped and would appreciate the help of anyone has an idea.

Remove the balls. Turn the game off. Lift playfield up and lean back. See the driving board involved ? I believe there are two for your problems. See the manual, #1 and #2. No need to unplug the connectors. Remove the screws holding the driver board to the big board below it. Unplug the driver board. Then plug it back it. A gentle push on the row or ten nubs sticking up from the connector pins going into the big board.

People have had problems reseating the solenoid driver boards due to the huge board flexing away when they push in the pins. A solution that worked was having them put a piece of foam or cardboard between the playfield wood and the socket on the huge board, to hold it from flexing. They just have to be careful of nearby LEDs.

I removed and reseated the connections to the big board on all 3 driver boards. It didn’t fix or change anything. Like I said, it’s what’s driven by Q2 on each of the 3 driver boards, which I find to be quite the coincidence if not related.

Joined the club a few weeks back. Game had a day 1 playfield protector, clear plastic protectors spotlights, and a few tasteful mods when I got it.

Cut off playfield protector, painted the dragon a bit, removed some ball trap plastics (just dislike too much of that at home), lit up Merlin and Catapult, and swapped the black rubber to perfect play yellow silicone. Couldn't find a picture of that when I was considering it so sharing here for someone later.

I put in a shaker too. The code for that is pretty disappointing, not sure if it was worth the money.

Want to light up the back board a bit (blue on the lightning) and I think I'll be done with this one.

Which Royal upgrades is it missing? The RGB LED GIs?

#9769 3 months ago

Yeah, the RGB LED Pops and the mirror blades. I bought some mirror blades for it (hopefully they fit), and I am not sure the GI changing pops are gonna add any more to my enjoyment

Also bought a sheet of sorbothane with adhesive on one side to use for helping with the scoop rejects (thanks to the folks in both MM threads for clueing me in to that)

Anyone want the original screen, GI and speakers from my MMRle? Mine has the Royal upgrades, and these are just sitting in a box. Prior owner did the swap, I assume they work fine. Just pay me shipping.

A new question and a solution to a problem:

Question: Noticed that my LEFT troll frequently only needs "2" rather than "3" hits to be successful. My current guess is it pops up and hits the ramp above it (triggering an initial hit), but, I'm unsure. Anyone see this happen? Should I add washers to raise the wireform ramp?

Solution: My RIGHT troll was not dropping or slowly dropping! Even in the test. Took it apart and noticed the mechanism was "sorta stuck" in the coil/coil sleeve. Removed it. Noticed the PIN holding the two parts together was slightly sticking out! A little light hammering got the pin back in, things smoothed out nice. Put it back together. All good!!

Quoted from rmf-pinball:

I'd make the leaf blade switch behind the troll head less sensitive.

Common for that roll pin to work it's way out. Next time you order parts I'd get a new coil sleeve. The one in there is scored.

Hey guys... how is the ball supposed to return from the left and right orbits? I have a hard time getting the ball under control in both cases. both with slow return (vuk, pops) and fast return from orbit.

From the left orbit, most often on the skill shot plunge, I have to hold the left flipper and the ball will bounce right off the tip and I have to hope I can get it under control enough in time to try a flailing shot for the skill shot. From the castle its a little easier to get under control, but I'm just curious if other examples return easier. maybe I need to adjust my incline or work on some live catch or something.

I’d like to finally do the rgb upgrade to my pop bumpers.

Questions for those who have done this:

I ordered the LED’s and clear caps from PPS. I have the red plug that plugs into the led.

How do I connect the wire to the red plug on the LED side ? And how do I tie into the wires for my RGB GI?

Thanks!

Just buy a few feet of red, green, blue and white wire. Connect a foot of each to each red connector and route through the pop and zip tie down then connect 2 pops to string ‘right 3’ and one to string ‘right 2’, giving a total of 6 lights per string.

So I'm craaaaaaaazy late to the MM party, and it's because I was an idiot. People have been asking me for a few years now for a 3D start button for MM, but I hadn't made one, for what I thought was good reason. Read on.

The original MM, and MMr, use smaller start buttons, while my 3D start buttons are 1.5" (the size used on modern Stern, JJP, AP, etc.) For most games with the smaller button, this isn't a problem -- I provide the larger housing which fully replaces the smaller button and covers up the counterbore in the cabinet. This does mean, however, that a little bit of artwork detail around the start button would be covered up by the new housing.

Medieval Madness has artwork (the shield & swords) around the button, and so I had dismissed the idea of a custom start button because I didn't want to cover any of the artwork on the shield.

pasted_image (resized).pngpasted_image (resized).png

Admittedly, I wasn't intimately familiar with MM. Sure, I'd played it here and there over the years, but never looked too deeply -- until recently when I had to play it in a tournament and had to really pay attention. Before long, I realized what an idiot I'd been for disregarding the start button, because right there in the game's animations, there were knights with shields charging at the screen -- the very same shield around the start button, which had a SKULL in the middle! Then I looked more closely at the artwork in the game, and there it was too -- that same shield, with that goofy cracked skull! For example:

pasted_image (resized).pngpasted_image (resized).png

(I just heard you MM fans facepalming.) And so -- duh -- my 3D start button has to be the skull, to finish off the look of the shield on the cabinet!

Obviously, the design is inspired by the goofy cracked skull but transformed into 3D and manipulated & reconfigured to conform to my button design. I present Rocket City Pinball's 3D Start Button for Medieval Madness! As with my other buttons, it requires a mid-print filament change which permanently fuses the button base and skull together.

MM_thread (resized).jpgMM_thread (resized).jpg

The button base is translucent and lights up (including through the eye sockets, nose, and crack in the skull), and finishes off the complete shield design and matches the lightning in the artwork around it on the cabinet. The installed pic shown below is photoshopped, using an actual photo of lit button shopped onto a separate image of the game cabinet. to give a preview of the finished appearance. I will be visiting a friend with a MM later this week to take 'actual' pics.

They will play fine. With or with out the EOS error.

Tests - Switch Edge - move the flipper bat back and forth. Do they register on the screen ? If not dig deeper. Turn game off. Look at the EOS - is it open ?, when you move the flipper bat up does it close ? Any broken wires ? Any EOS connector unplugged ?

hi,

I have read something to disassemble the troll.
My troll (MMR) has a loose nut (image 1, the upper one).
What is the best way to tighten the screw again?
I have removed the complete troll unit (see photo), what to do in what sequence?

Thanks

I usually just fish open face wrench in there and tighten them up. Have had a couple times where one came loose and the switch stopped registering.

Any rumours on when MMr might be built again? I miss mine, but not $15,000 worth.
